12.01.2022 ALIGNMENT IN A BATTEMENT TENDU DERRIERE A battement tendu is an integral ballet step and often one of the first things to be taught. Although the action of pointing and closing might look simple, the step takes years of training to master! As ISW faculty member Evelyn Roberts explains, the whole body is involved! Here, Evelyn is explain how the battement tendu derriere (to the back) should be in line with the dancers belly button to best support the dancer. When ...executed properly, the dancer is lifted high off the leg that they are standing on. The movement is supported by the cross-lateral oblique engagement which keeps the body strong and elongated, helping the dancer achieve an ease of movement. "Then your leg is back behind your belly-button as well. That indicates to me that you have that strong core that we have already worked on, and that strong stabalising leg.
