24.01.2022 WHATS A GIRL TO DO WITH A LOW LYING PLACENTA or PLACENTA PREVIA A low lying placenta is not uncommon and not often a problem. This means the placenta has implanted low down in your uterus, close to your cervix. There is absolutely no need to worry if you are among this 5% you can continue your normal daily activities, unless you have been advised otherwise. ... The lower part of your uterus does most of its growing and stretching in the third trimester (until around 36 weeks), and it often takes the placenta with it. The placenta doesn’t ‘migrate’ upwards; because it is attached to the uterine wall, it is carried upwards with the uterus. *** A low lying placenta at or before 18-20 weeks of pregnancy does not mean you need a c-section. WHAT ARE MY BIRTH OPTIONS IF I STILL HAVE THIS IN MY THIRD TRIMESTER? With a marginal previa, where the placenta is near but not covering the cervix, you may be able to have a vaginal delivery. Many doctors will feel most comfortable if the placenta is 2cm away from the cervix, but talk with your doctor since each case is different. One study found that at least 60% of low-lying placenta cases ended with successful vaginal delivery. Your doctor will take into account whether there is also a placenta accreta present, which would likely mean a c-section is the safest route. If this is the case I would suggest looking into a Gentle Caesarean birth. Safe and an empowering journey into bringing your babe earthside Xoxo https://www.mamanatural.com/placenta-previa/

24.01.2022 THE IMPORTANCE OF GENTLE TOUCH IN LABOUR Touch can help to relax the body without over stimulating the mind. This is important in birth because the frontal cortex of the brain, the area that is responsible for thinking and concentrating, needs to quieten down to allow the more primitive areas of the brain, the Hypothalamus and Pituitary Gland to focus fully on the functional, primal response that is taking place within the body.... When the body is relaxed it can function more effectively and the ‘love’ hormone oxytocin can flow which is key to having a calm, gentle birth. #birth #labour #pregnancy #birthcourse #hypnobirthingmackay #mackayhypnobirth #igniteyourglow

21.01.2022 TO PUSH OR NOT TO PUSH Oh it’s all so confusing! sometimes we get told one thing and then another and sometimes, it just gets forgotten. When we talk in class I prefer to use the word breathing or bearing down, this doesn’t discredit the word pushing but sometimes when you push; it contracts you’re whole body and this, is where we can push against, it rather than working with the birthing body. ... I like to talk about pushing or bearing down when you feel that natural expulsive reflex happening within. It’s the breathing and bearing down that allows you to actually feel that primitive push beginning to rumble below, and when you actually start to push. I had a mother who had to be induced and she opted for an epidural to help her cope with the synthetic drugs coursing through her highly sensitive body. When her body had dilated and ready for her to push bub out into the world the obs and midwife where instructing her to push. She second guessed herself at this stage and followed their instructions all the while thinking ‘hang on’ I specifically said I had a certain way I had been practising while pregnant to bear my baby into the world’. She continued with the coached pushing only 20min later still no baby..... She was tired and exhausted and her maternal instinct kicked in by this stage and she thought ‘screw it, I’m going to breathe the way I had been practising from my ignite course’ She started going about tuning out to the coaching and tuning within herself. This deepened her breathing technique and she noticed they had stopped talking to her and opened her eyes to see them wide eyed and looking a little in disbelief, they then caught her eye and said ‘whatever your doing keep doing it’. 7minutes later baby was born It’s great to have other techniques and tools to have on hand to help us through this stage but I guess the real story here also is trusting in your body and doing what works for you. Good on this mumma for surrendering to her wisdom. [ Great thing about the bearing down breath is you can practise this during pregnancy and know that it works before you go into labour ]

17.01.2022 The Benefits of BRAXTON HICKS! If you haven’t heard about these, I have just the right bite sized information below for you to read. I myself was unlucky to not experience these. I can hear you now....thinking ‘why the he’ll would she be unlucky? Well I always say bracton hicks would be the best time to use some of your breathing and self-soothing techniques. What better way to practise than on these and take note of what works and what doesn’t work right here, right no...w preparing you for labour. So if your LUCKY enough ( Yes I said that right ) to experience these little practise surges then put your tools to practise mamas and strengthen that body belief ready for the real thing. 1. Flop, drop and b-r-e-a-t-h-e Imagine your like a rag doll, you want all your muscles to release any tension. 2. Use WATER!!! Bath / shower whatever it may be this can help soothe those tight taught muscles and help calm any extra tension 3. Imagine your filling an inner balloon as you breathe in so this activated your diaphragm breathing which relieves nervous tension, lowers anxiety which could make you tense and helps to oxygenate your body 4. Side lying or using a birth ball (yoga ball) can relieve discomfort. 5. Using all Senses and incorporating touch. So whether that be your partner is involved and him working some magic acupressure points, foot massage or endorphin release massage or if you are at home when side lying rub your feet together softly or use the palm of your hand to rub the sheets in a small circular motion focusing on your breath and the sensation on your hand. All above are great ingredients not just for braxton Hicks but also for labouring at home. Kimberly-Adelaide

15.01.2022 These NICU nurses are absolute angels sent from the heavens!! I’ve spoken with a few mothers who have had to experience time in NICU up in Townsville and the wonderful job that they do. So I just wanted to take a moment to honour this department and also allow a space for mothers who have experienced these emotions and feelings on this journey. To the mother who has faced this as her birth and mother journey. I see you, I feel you, all those emotions, all those fears, all th...ose wins, all those uncertain thoughts the panic the joy the rollercoaster and the COMPLETE unknown and being thrown into the deep end. I carry you within my heart And I want to remind you that you are INCREDIBLY strong in your sensitivity and to keep going within yourself because your intuition is there guiding you every small baby step. Your brain in wired to nurture, it is supporting you! Your heart is wired to ‘feel’ and you can feel what feels best for you! Your senses are wired to use your instinct, and regardless of what anybody says to you your natural ability to sense what to do is there! Fall back into yourself! Back yourself! Educate yourself but always come back to your own natural mothering instinct. You have got this! With all the love in the world Xoxo

15.01.2022 { THE BIRTH STORY BY EMILY } I remember standing in my kitchen just before lunch time, thinking about these back aches and cramping sensations that kept coming regularly. I didn’t really start timing them properly, but they felt like they were coming every 10 minutes all afternoon. Becoming more intense as the hours went by, but not enough to make me want to start timing them. I think I was nearing active labour around 5pm when the intensity and frequency picked up yet again,... every 4-5 minutes I would stop what I was doing to focus on the contractions. My beautiful doula, I mean daughter (3.5 years old), loved hanging around during this time. She would see when I was having a contraction and tell me to stand if I wasn’t already, and dance while we swayed side to side together. At one point she noticed I was holding my breath or tensing up, and goes big breath mummy and reminds me to relax mummy. Her innate knowing of what birth is made my heart swell. We do the whole dinner, bath and bed routine, and read Brontes favourite book the Dinosaur Department Store. Thomas then insisted he’d take over. While he got her to sleep I called my midwife to let her know where we were up to, and that we would see her later that night or early in the morning. I headed for the shower and sat on my exercise ball and enjoyed the warm water running over my lower back. I wasn’t in there for long before my waters broke. Thomas knew we were getting close (I disagreed, I felt like we still had a long night ahead of us) and called the midwife at 7:25pm and she said to head straight over to the birth centre, luckily Nan was already on her way over to babysit Bronte for the night so we didn’t need to wait around for long. We would have arrived around 8pm. I heard the bath running and I couldn’t have hopped in fast enough. I wasn’t in there for long when the midwife says, I think you’ll have a baby by 9:30! I looked at her in disbelief, up until this point my labour had been quite easy-going and calm... I was thinking, surely it can’t be THAT easy!? Soon I had hit transition phase... I remember telling myself to focus on each contraction, growling my way through them. This was definitely the most challenging and intense part of birth. It was such a relief to eventually feel the overwhelming urge to push. After maybe 20 minutes and a few gentle pushes, I caught Brinkley at 8:46pm. Having a hands off birth, allowing my body and instincts to take over felt wonderful and oh so rewarding. - - - I wanted to share my positive birth story with you and say thank you for everything you do and stand for. I’m so glad we crossed paths, I really enjoyed the Belly Balance sessions and got so much out of them. - Emily @friendsofthemackaybirthcentre #mackaybirth #mackaypregnancy #mackaybirthcentre #bellybalance #igniteyourglow #glowmumma #birth #waterbirth

08.01.2022 Don't walk into the birth room with your eyes shut. Ive heard a lot of mum's talk about going with the flow of things and not over complicating birth....but really in my experience not knowing anything creates the complications. It's the mothers who prepare, who have an understanding of their body and the system and have informed themselves on their rights as parents and also checked in with the 'What if something we were not expecting did come up'? What do we do then....How ...do we respond as parents, as a team. Often it's these mothers who actually go with the flow, they have prepared with knowledge, tools and practised with their partner. The bond between parents-to-be is flowing freely, they can offer each other loving space in the room for whichever way their birthing journey unfolds and come together to make any necessary decisions if they need to. I always say Pregnancy is a time to go to the school of birthing and become a student again. Read birth stories to inspire you and help you believe in your body...you can find some empowering birth blogs on the hypnobirthing Australia website, birth without fear and many more, Read birthing books such a gentle birth gentle parenting by Dr Sarah Buckley, Ina May Gaskins birth book or even JuJu's book is a great read. Spinning babies is a great website with stretching to help bub into an optimal position as this is very important during pregnancy for you to work with your body and baby to help bub into anterior positioning. Look up Accupresser for labour and have a bit of a practise with your birth partner on these. The use of robozo using a shawl or baby wrap during pregnancy and labour can also be a great tool to use. Or take yourself along to pregnancy yoga with Fiona from breathe or join in on one of my Belly Balance Programs to learn how to relax and connect during pregnancy All of the above we cover in 'The positive birth program' weekend course which you can also attend There is so much you can immerse yourself in, and it doesn't all have to be at once, if you leave it too late you may feel like you're cramming it all in and that can be overwhelming. Maybe just pick up a book first, or search for a positive birth story and start the process gently, put one foot in front of the other small steps at a time. You have got this Mumma! But don't waste this precious pregnancy time working your but off for someone else trying to prove your worth to a company that will be there when you get back to pick everything up again. Use this time wisely. Kimberly xoxo Childbirth Educator Hypnobirthing Certified Belly Balance Creator Fear Release Specialist

08.01.2022 IGNITING OTHERS IS MY SOUL WORK To ignite others is to be the light, so what's it like to be the light? and how do you know? Firstly, we were all born with this loving sacred light within us and all you need to do is look at a baby and you can't help going into softness and awe at the beauty of a baby. No glamour, nothing different about them, you can just feel it when you look at them. So it's important to get this notion out of our head that some people have it and some peo...Continue reading

07.01.2022 CAESAREAN BIRTHS ARE POWERFUL I wish to bring some awareness this week to some of the birthing goddesses and the brave women who experience caesarean births to bring their babies earthside. Bringing life into the world, seeing their baby for the first time, smelling their beautiful newborn and holding their baby in their arms when all is safe and ready to begin their bonding journey.... These Hypno mummas birth their children with such strength and beauty, allowing their bodies to be the vessels that house and protect and keep safe to then bring forth a baby in a different environment to what they may have expected or seen in birth stories or been told about, but find a steadyness and connection and letting go of expectations. To find that strength to carry on and hold calmness for their child to give them the best chance possible to breathe that first breath of life. You are amazing! You are Strength! You are selfless! You are Brave! You are a beautiful birthing goddess! [ Recently one of my Hypno mummas reached out with her birth story and as her birth unfolded she found herself and her partner navigating down the path towards c-section. This is a snippet of her perspective of this: "As an anxious person, there were so many situations where I could have lost the plot and I really do think that it’s due to all of the hypnobirthing tools you helped with that kept me calm despite all of the changes to the ‘plan’. Especially when told I needed a Caesar. Our recovery has been stress free and I’m very grateful for your classes and support. The mater has also been amazing. Every single midwife has been beyond helpful and we feel like we’ve had a great experience." This just gives me goosebumps all over!! However our births unfold it's the transformation of stepping up, stepping into our power and owning our birth. For some, what could be quite traumatic the difference here was Lauren was empowered, she was informed, had tools and techniques and responded to the situation with all of this knowledge and this set her up to flow onto her post-partum journey with joy, the joy to have her baby in her arms safe!] #ignitehypnobirthing #mackaybirth #pregnancypreparation #informedbirth #matermums #glowmumma https://www.scarymommy.com/truths-c-section-mamas/

07.01.2022 [ B I R T H S T O R Y OF M A E B E L ] - Mackay Mater hospital with Sally - Below is a birth story from Hypnoparents Lauren & Clint from Clermont. Lauren and Clint attended the hypnobirthing weekend course during Covid times. ... Due to Lauren birthing at our Mackay Mater hospital she did end up coming in for a few appointments and we were lucky enough to have her join in on a physical belly balance also and meet up with some of the women she had attended the course with. Read below for her calm and very much connected to her her wonderful birth partner and baby story. OUR EXPERIENCE I just thought I’d share with you our birth story. Maebel Elizabeth White finally came on 21 August at 7:19 pm and weighed just on 3kg. She’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen! But I’m sure all parents say that. I was booked in to have a balloon catheter on Wed night and went into labour on my own an hour before the appointment which I was pretty excited about. We used many of the hypnobirthing tools that night and all day Thursday. By Thursday night the surges were getting more intense so we went to the hospital and stayed over night. They didn’t start our ‘clock’ until the next morning. Clint was fantastic at all the words, the encouraging and topping me up with water and food. He really liked having so many ways to help. He said his fingertips almost rubbed off with all the massages! In the end though, our little girl’s head was stuck and we made the decision to be further medically induced and by this stage I opted for the epidural which made the rest of labour better to cope with. It had been over 36 hours by then and I definitely underestimated the effect of exhaustion. Sally was very supportive while I beared her down with my breathe but she didn’t want to budge. We ended up with a c section and recovery is going well. As an anxious person, there were so many situations where I could have lost the plot and I really do think that it’s due to all of the hypnobirthing tools you helped with that kept me calm despite all of the changes to the ‘plan’. Especially when told I needed a Caesar. Our recovery has been stress free and I’m very grateful for your classes and support. The mater has also been amazing. Every single midwife has been beyond helpful and we feel like we’ve had a great experience. Here’s some pics

06.01.2022 SOMETHING A LITTLE PERSONAL ABOUT ME Recently when sitting down to a long lunch with two women that inspire me. One mumma owns her own photography business the other a mother of five and studying at uni. We discussed ways in which we could connect post covid reflections. What a about a book club!? I’ve been reading this amazing book for me I was like Ummm yes! I love reading, the other replied I don’t read but it sounds like something different I’m in!... Thus we begun our book club and I drove us straight from our long lunch into the store and we all found this book and began reading. We decided to meet for a beach picnic and we had a few questions we found to ask each other about the book but to be honest after reading this we all couldn’t stop talking about it anyway. Unlike any book I’ve read. I laughed, I cried, I was shocked, I was angry and there were so many twists that blew me away. It is a book about IVF and could be a fear trigger for anyone who is going down this path so please be warned but one of these women who read the book was on that path herself and she still found it capturing and the one who said she didn’t read....well she finished the book first I do love a good book so this was such a fantastic thing to be a part of. Admittedly we have all lost contact on the second book so seeing this photo has re-inspired me to reach out to the little group we created. I highly recommend the read and also creating a little book club group with some Mumma’s for something a little different. #yesiamabookworm

06.01.2022 Always remember that saying beauty comes from within, well it's the same for pregnancy. Yes it might not feel Glowy or easy or comfortable and it's not! If you get the morning sickness or the pregnancy acne and the thrush....yes i said it but it’s the reality with pregnancy. Then you're probably thinking to yourself 'What is this woman talking about'. Well whenever I talk about glow it's never really about the outside. Everything I talk ...about always starts from the inside, always! So if your not feeling great, and you may not be, due to the physical side effects of pregnancy. Just know that there are ways to help IGNITE that glow from within and it really does start with empowering yourself with birthing wisdom, knowledge and tools. You don't need to feel lost when it comes to labour and birth you just need to find your inner mothering self. On Friday’s I do over the phone free consultations about what services I offer, so if your in need of some guidance, feel free to book an appointment with me and I will try and help and if I can't I have a wealth of resources to point you in the right direction. Kimberly-Adelaide xoxo

05.01.2022 [ T H E B R A I N D U R I N G B I R T H ] I talk in class with pregnant women all the time about what part of the brain we birth from, which is the reptilian part or lets call it's the instinctive part of our brain. The reptilian brain is responsible for heart beat, reproductive activities, our swallowing reflex and so much more but the key point I'm trying to make here is....do you have to wake up in the morning and remind yourself to breathe, or swallow? No......... When it comes to birthing this is the part of our brain where birthing comes from.....so.... when comfortable and relaxed and focused and informed previously to labour.....that's where this saying really comes to life. Birth doesn't require any complex thinking while in labour, if anything we overcomplicate it and in that moment just go primal. The catch is if we swap over to our neo-cortex let's call this the logical part of our brain where we have to activate this to answer questions then interestingly this actually shuts down the instinctive part of the brain. And where do we want to be in birth.......The instinctual part of the brain!!! I find this absolutely fascinating and could talk in this for hours but i'll let you go and if you want to know more than send me a message and I can talk more with you about understanding your body during labour and how to work with it rather than against it. Kimberly-Adelaide xoxo Photo: Beautiful Hypnomama Kelly here

03.01.2022 B R I N G I N G B A B Y H O M E Bringing your baby home can be exciting for your family but the reality after that honeymoon period is over can sometimes be a lot harder than we expected or what is shown on social media. I want to know from the mothers that have brought siblings home. What was it like in your family? and what helped your family if you did struggle? ... Ive popped a tip down below, but we all know that different children need different approaches and it's never a one size fits all type of thing. Tip: One way to soften the transition is to carve out at least 15 minutes of one-on-one time with your older child every day. The important thing is to be consistent, so he or she knows that mama will always make time for her first baby. #love #newborn #cute #kids #family #momlife #motherhood #sister #brother #baby #newbornphotographer #babylove

02.01.2022 I remember the time Nate was very young and he had been clinging to me Alll day and I was tired and exhausted and I needed some space so I popped him in my bedroom for some chill time while I went to make a cup of tea. It had gone quiet and peaceful and I enjoyed this time to myself...until I realised ‘oh wait!! It’s quiet and PEACEFUL!’ As I opened the bedroom door he had fallen asleep sitting up covered in his baby powder and it was like a snowfall all over the carpet. ... I couldn’t help but laugh as I knew this would be one of those times I would look back on an laugh and he was so cute asleep sitting up head propped up awkwardly leaning on the side of the bed if I can find the photo I’ll pop it in comments below
