25.01.2022 What are your morning rituals? Do you jump out of bed & get going to the gym or take it slow to wake up to the day? Whatever it is, it is important to establish one that suits you. It sets the tone for the day. It can also help to energise you, build your focus & decrease stress. ... I like to start each day with a run or walk with the pupper & the husband. Then a stretch followed by breakfast & coffee. I make sure I sit for my coffee, listen to the sounds outside & get ready for the day.

24.01.2022 Eight weeks post knee reconstruction. At week two this client was messaging me saying she was sick of being out of her routine & wanted to come back to class. You see routine helps us cope with the continual flow of decisions that face us in everyday life. It can help us with our mental health & can also help create healthy habits with sleep, nutrition & hydration. ... This clients’ routine included daily form of exercise with Pilates a regular feature. And even though she was doing her rehab at home she missed having the appointment to come to class. After getting the ok from the physio we made the appointments for her to do a series of 1-on-1 sessions then progressing to the clinical exercise class & last week joining a beginner class with modifications. She has been coming once or twice a week & sometimes to just sit on the stationary bike, working on getting revolutions. Always happy to help with getting you back into your routine post injury, operation or life glitch & this is a perfect example of how our Pilates & Clinical Exercise classes can help you progress. 24.01.2022 Christmas 2020...we made it! Think back one year ago and who would have thought that the year that has unfolded was on the cards. Things I think we have all learnt from this year: Don’t eat bats. There is more stupidity than hydrogen in the universe and it has a longer shelf life.... Your yearly planner was a waste of money. Carol Baskin definitely killed her husband. Wine for breakfast is okay. But seriously I think this year has taught us: We are capable of much more than we thought. Self care is a priority. Don’t take anything or anyone for granted. Time is a limited resource, don’t waste it for people and things that are not adding value to your life. Difficult times show us the real face of life, people and our community. I want thank all of the Pilates community who rallied around each other and showed a huge amount of support to one another through lockdown after lockdown. And I want to thank all of my clients who stuck with it through lockdown and were scratching at the door to come back when we re-opened. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! Stay safe and happy.

24.01.2022 Kicking Friday away in style.

23.01.2022 Day 1 of Women’s Health Week 2020 Kicking it off for the week will be looking at the wonders of down under (no...not talking about Australia....think down under). ... The pelvic floor is a layer of muscles & ligaments located between the legs from front to back & side to side. It has the important job of supporting the pelvic organs, helping with activating the deeper abdominal muscles & it works to stabilise & support the spine. When the pelvic floor is weak it can lead to muscular imbalances which can contribute to some serious issues like incontinence & prolapse. The pelvic floor muscles can be weak in females following pregnancy & childbirth. It is therefore important you target the pelvic floor muscles consistently. How can Pilates help? Pilates exercises focus on keeping the pelvic floor lifted & getting the deep core muscles engaged. Whilst it might be hard to find the connection at first, with regular practice you will feel the engagement.

22.01.2022 I hear you...school holidays have started and you need to put your Pilates practice on hold so you can entertain the kiddos right??? Wrong!!! You can bring them along to a class! With the students rate of $20 / class, your kids can join in too. You get to continue your practice and they get to develop some new skills.... 14.01.2022 We call this the Mum Move. Turning the head during Chariot Pull to check what the kids are up to on the mats. It gives you some more activation time for the backs of your arms & back. Plus you get a nice little stretch of the neck.

14.01.2022 Waving ba-bye to 2020. That’s a wrap for classes for this year. See you next year....or Monday morning bright and early

14.01.2022 If you are lucky, you might get the CEO herself giving you some extra support or corrections.

14.01.2022 Why are push-ups so good? They are beneficial for building upper body strength. They work the tri-ceps, pecs & shoulders while giving you the opportunity to work on correct scapula placement. When done with proper form & with the core switching on, they can help with strengthening the lower back too.

13.01.2022 We would like to remind all our clients coming into the studio of the safety & cleanliness guidelines put in place when we re-opened. Maintaining these procedures & having a high standard of safety for all our staff & clients is our priority. We ask that each client washes or sanitises their hands on entry & cleans the equipment they have used after using it. Also if you have any cold or flu symptoms please call prior to your class to reschedule. ... Thanking you in advance for your cooperation See more

13.01.2022 Maybe you are new to Pilates & want to learn the basics at your pace. Or perhaps you have a specific goal in mind & you want to focus on that. Private one on one sessions allow for just this.

13.01.2022 Start by drinking one glass of water, or by walking one lap or reading one chapter. Start by saying hello, I’ve been thinking about starting this for a while.

11.01.2022 Today is World Kindness Day. So I’ma going to be kind to my clients & do this sweet plank variation along with some reformer chin ups & scooters. But in all seriousness don’t be an asshole... choose to be kind instead.

10.01.2022 A little bit of r’n’r

10.01.2022 Some benefits of owning a pet... They reduce stress They help improve your mood They can make you more social ... Don’t worry if you don’t own a pet, Gigi the CEO of IGYB regularly visits the studio & will position herself strategically in the doorway for maximum pats. She also likes to sniff eyelids

09.01.2022 Love me some feet in straps.... Who else loves it too? But do you know why it’s so good? Apart from being able to lay down while you work up a sweat (), feet in straps is great for stabilising the core, strengthening the abdominals & learning placement & control of the hips & legs. A heavier spring will create more resistance for the legs, a lighter spring will create more work for the abdominals & single leg will take you places you have never been before! ... Lets look at who needs to do feet in straps..... Runners need strong hips & glutes to support their gate. Swimmers need to have control through the hips for their kicks. Dancers need the strength to support their flexibility. And as we age we need strength & support to help keep us upright. It really is for everyone. Next time you go to class, why not ask for some feet in straps! To read the full blog head to www.igotyourbackpilates.com.au/blog See more

05.01.2022 Have been working on some sport specific programming for those who play a sport & want to fine tune their training. 05.01.2022 Proprioception is the perception or awareness of the position and movement of the body. The bodies proprioceptors act like sensors which can help with balance. The foot and ankle joints can be a common sight of poor proprioception & especially after an injury it needs to be re-trained to help prevent further injuries. It’s also good to just train your proprioceptors as a just in case.... having good body awareness & good balance can help to prevent injury.

03.01.2022 Lets help Victorian studios get back open working 1:1 or in small groups with their clients. Clinically trained Pilates Instructors don't do large groups, they don't work in busy gyms & they can very easily maintain appropriate social distancing. We have seen success in Queensland with having a COVID safe plan, along with open communication with our clients in regards to expectations for an individuals health & safety. With these policies adopted in VIC they could very easily re-open safely. If you are an instructor or a client who loves Pilates, please sign & share. Lets help our fellow Pilates lovers!
