24.01.2022 Today Cedar Woods have fenced off Shed 26. We believe demolition will commence this week unless urgent action is taken. It is not too late for the South Austral...ian Government or the developer themselves to rethink this decision, respect state heritage, reimagine their plans for the site, redress the social contract that the Government and developer have broken with our community, and stop this vandalism of the Port. 19.01.2022 As you may have seen at our event in December we provided space for the local national trust and Shed 26 to engage with the local community about its heritage s...ignificance. Since then Shed 26 was successfully heritage listed only to be over turned by Minister David Speirs. We are so disappointed and sad that this icon of the inner harbour may potentially be lost forever and would like to take this opportunity to personally ask the Premier Steven Marshall minister David Speirs MP and developers Cedar Woods Fletcher's Slip to please reconsider and keep Shed 26. 12.01.2022 URGENT Environment Minister David Speirs MP has announced that he is considering overruling the SA Heritage Council’s heritage listing of Shed 26 today. The Min...ister has written to SAHC chairperson Keith Conlon asking him to defer any decision on permanent listing while he considered whether to use his power to scrap its current listing altogether (article in comments). To overthrow this decision makes a mockery of heritage process in South Australia. Shed 26 met 4/7 criteria - it only needed to meet 1 to be listed. The decision today does not jeopardise Cedar Wood’s Fletcher’s Slip development project. The shed is ripe for exciting and innovative adaptation within the 5+hectare overall development site. It’s important for the community to know that the South Australian Government sold/ transferred this site to Cedar Woods for a grand total of $2 in November 2018. It’s completely reasonable for the community to expect the heritage and character of the Port to be included, respected and embraced in a multimillion dollar profit making project. Please write to Minister David Speirs, the Premier of South Australia and other Cabinet Ministers as a matter of urgency. More to come.
11.01.2022 Edit - please see more recent post for urgent action required. **** Fantastic news everyone! ... The SA Heritage Council have voted to support the permanent state heritage listing of Shed 26, finding that it meets four criteria for state heritage (a, d, f and g). This recommendation now requires a Summary of Heritage Place report to be prepared and adopted at their next meeting on 11th April; a report has not been prepared yet as the decision went against the government’s assessment report delivered at this morning’s meeting. We call on the State Government to respect the decision of the SAHC and not intervene while the Shed remains provisionally listed until this next meeting. Thank you to the SA Heritage Council and congratulations to everyone involved in saving this important South Australian icon! Stay tuned as further action may still be required. #imagineShed26
