24.01.2022 "Practising Renka" - Workshop led by Vernisher Wooh and Pat Mackie, held on March 06 at Bardon Hall. Brief description from the 2020 Winter edition of the STA Magazine: "Renka is a collaborative form of Ikebana that was introduced to the Sogetsu School by Hiroshi Teshigahara in the 1990s. Inspired by the classical poetry genre renga, which is a form of linked verse that became the basis for the modern haiku, he created an avant-garde method of ikebana that involves several pe...ople. A Renka work consists of a series of interdependent arrangements. Since each participant interprets the previous works in the series of arrangements the completed form of the Renka Ikebana is not known until the last contributor has finished their work. Unlike a joint work, in Renka the individual work is created by a single artist. One by one, the participants challenge the given space until the work is completed." There are different ways of creating a Renka and the participants followed the process that Vernisher experienced in Tokyo. Groups of participants firstly did individual arrangements with an Autumn theme, using fresh, dried and unconventional materials. Then those arrangements were linked using other materials, such as vines, palm fronds, etc. The completed arrangement encompassed the inside and outside spaces of the hall. 19.01.2022 Fotos from our Virtual Exhibition held in August 2020, as the unprecedented impacts of the COVID-19 virus prevented us from having our Annual Exhibition at the Mt Coot-tha Auditorium, where Queensland members of Sogetsu Ikebana have been exhibiting continuously since 1974. All members were invited to take part, the theme being: "My Ikebana" and we received 38 entries. As a consequence and under the guidance of our Sogetsu Teachers, individual members did arrangements which we...re photographed and forwarded to Vernisher Wooh, our Exhibition Chairperson, for her oversight before being uploaded onto our official website (https://ikebanabrisbane.org.au/) Whilst it’s not quite the same, I’m sure you’ll agree that the members have presented some wonderful arrangements for the viewer’s pleasure.
