19.01.2022 It was with great sadness that I learned of Gary’s passing yesterday. He and I met many years ago when I was writing the first edition of Hey Charger and he was only too keen to help me with the New Zealand chapters for the book. We subsequently kept in regular contact which was revitalised by me wanting to publish the second edition. Gary used to wangle flights to Adelaide and we’d sit and chat about the book, aircraft and life in general including his regard for the achievements of his twin daughters Grace and Claudia. He was really proud of them. We had been in touch recently to chat about the preparation of the third (Anniversary) edition of our Hey Charger book and he was keen for it to happen. I will make sure of that with due acknowledgement of Gary. The Chrysler Charger world will miss his infectious enthusiasm! 0

12.01.2022 Sad to hear the passing of Kiwi racing driver Ron Rutherford in Surfers Paradise this morning. I never had the privilege of meeting Ron but heard nothing but go...od things about him. Ron raced a large variety of cars and had the second fastest Charger E49 in NZ behind Leo Leonard. Ron and the E49 won a $1000 prize for winning half - hour race at Ruapuna in 1973. A huge sum of money back then. When the Moffat GTHO was sent out to deal with the Kiwi Chargers, Ron won the first race at Wigram after Leo and Moffat retired. He poled second quickest behind Leo at Teretonga but Jim Richards in the GTHO jumped him at the start. Ron said he just didnt have enough room to get past the Falcon but it was clear that both E49s were faster around Teretonga. Rons E49 is alive and well today. See more
