What do they tell you to do when you have a health issue? A. Do some exercise, fix your diet and lifestyle and get into some sort of mindset focused practice. Isn’t that interesting! Now the only unfortunate thing about this relationship which I did not mention is the other instruction which is take this medication. I believe the majority of issues we are seeing today from anxiety and depression, to cardiovascular disease, to Australia’s general weight issue is attributed to people people not doing the full range of necessary interventions. What I’m referring to is the list of things that those experts will say to you to remedy the physical and mental health issues in the opening sentences of this post, they are: Physical exercise: resistance and aerobic exercise. Diet (nutrition) & Lifestyle : anti-inflammatory eating, hydration, sleep patterns, social life, stimulant use. Mindset: meditation, yoga, mind/body scanning etc. I call them 'healths holy-trinity' as I have seen these things alone work miracles. For the most part in Australia, and the rest of the Western world for that matter, we are dealing with more garden variety physical and mental health issues. In my opinion medication is probably not necessary for most of them. But GPs will prescribe anyway which teaches the body to nod defend itself in these instances of general health problems. For the most part I feel we have a pretty good grasp on the whole exercise thing. However, people get very evangelical as to which system is best. But at the moment with the amount of inactivity I see in the general population I don’t think it really matters. As long as there are elements of lifting objects, a breathing component along with participant consistency, there are results there to be had. Nutrition and lifestyle is also fairly well understood and accepted. Although, the field of gut health specific nutrition is a brand new field but is bursting at the seams showing the relationship between the state of the gut with the condition of the brain and body. Mindset however is a different story. There is a lot of talk of mental health and mindset in general at the moment. This is great! However, in many ways we are not looking at it from a behaviour change point of view or the deeper motivational forces behind actions. The biggest mistake I see is this push for positivity and just being happy. Pretty much all of us carry psychological trauma of some type, especially from our past. But let me be clear here, I’m not talking to you about crazy or psycho whatever those terms means. However, I will bet my last dollar that you have some little black cloud following you around day to day, we all do. Some peoples problems come from grief and loss, some from abuse, some from falling off a motorbike and some from bullying at high school. This is not something you can just sweep under the positivity rug or you can’t just will-it away! You can’t just put a instagram Lo-Fi filter over the top. It must be dealt with properly or you’re health problem, mental or physical, will just continue to cycle around and around and there will be no freedom from it. How to deal with it then? Well in business there is a well known, well documented method called root-cause analysis. Basically, when there is a problem within a business, a deep investigation is conducted and digging continues until the problem is found and quite often a lot of digging is needed. So we understand the concept and the procedure and accept it as something that works. The idea here with ourselves is to do the same thing. For mindset work you must stop the shallow thinking, you must make peace with the fact that you might not like what you find. But your return to health depends on it. DISCLAIMER: Medications save lives! Do not just stop taking medications because of an opinion. I am not talking about hardwired issues like thyroid problems for instance. Or making the distinguishment between a person with mental health and brain health issues but there are many areas that the GPs are very approachable so if you have been on medication long term ask him or her if is necessary for it to continue of discuss a long-term plan to come off medication.

Don’t worry about what you see on social media. It doesn’t matter how far someone might appear to be ahead of you. Why? There are 2-reasons: 1. You don’t know what their life looks like behind the scenes, while you envy them they might envy you as a Mum or Dad, a husband or wife, or simply as a person with a more regular life. 2. There are just as many people that you are ahead of as there are people ahead of you. The true fitness seeker is the person who gets up after falling over. They are the person who meets themself where they are to then move ahead. They are not overly concerned with their surroundings. They are the big, the small, the short, the tall, the athlete and the novice. 11.01.2022 , ! This piece is about taking personal responsibility seriously. In fact I truly feel that if yo...u want to change behaviours there is nothing else more important than personal responsibility! However, first of all I used a contentious word here! Are we mature enough to be able to have a conversation in reference to ? (Insert dramatic music for effect...) I respect your personal beliefs, traditions and/or reasoning. Different people call their Creator different things: God, Jesus, Yahweh, Allah, Bhikkhu, Dao, the universal process of evolution, Tom Cruise, Oprah or The spaghetti monster in the sky. I’m simply referring to whoever/whatever you think/feel/believe is responsible for you sitting there breathing right now. Let’s not get to caught up on semantics! Moving on You are a human, a biological being with a massive brain. That is, you can do A LOT of cool sh*t! But we cannot escape our limitations, we need energy (food and water), we need to breathe, we can’t ourselves fly, our core temp needs to be within a few degrees of 37oC. We can’t just do throwing caution to the wind as we only have one life. These are what I call the uncontrollables. And it’s these uncontrollables are there because The Creator (reference above) put them there. For example, you can’t get away with not eating or drinking. You don’t eat or drink, you die! Dark right? But this is where the notion of the controllables come in. Although you cannot control the notion that you must eat, you can control you eat. In the same light, you can’t control the onset of some cancers you can control many other aspects that are causes of other cancers. Many other elements of your health in general are also controllable. So aim to control as many of those as much as you are able to (not willing to). Many people get bogged down with an inner dialogue I’m probably going to get sick anyway, my frame is shorter and wider so trying to lose weight is a waste of time, everyone else is doing better than me. All of these may or may not be happening but you can’t do anything about that as they are the uncontrollables. The point is The Creator will throw stuff in your way, you can’t do much about that unfortunately. However, where you are able to give effort to changing yourself, you give it your fullest. Your lifestyle choices including to exercise or at least be active are controllable. Coke zero or water is controllable. Nutritional options are all controllable. Even if it’s all imperfect, the notion of it being imperfect as a reason to chuck it all on the fire is highly misguided! In fact things are rarely perfect, if at all. I would argue that, if with limitations, you can still find an abstraction of "perfection". For example you have an old knee injury (uncontrollable) and are time poor (we have to work!) meaning exercise is difficult because you can’t do it the way I would like to do it (the knee) and you can’t be perfect with your food (time). There is room there to still create change. Why is this still "perfect"? Well making the best out of any imperfect situation rather than being a victim to it is the greatest hallmark of what it is to be human. To your health Josh

03.01.2022 %? So an unfortunate stat is that the vast majority of people just quit too soon. As a long haired hippie in Jerusalem apparently said about 2020 years ago " ; , ."... I swear, the more I learn and work with clients, the more I realise that success comes to those who simply don’t quit and who show up consistently. There’s no magic bullet that guarantees health, fitness, weight loss, etc More than ever, people are being fed lies about what it takes to achieve a lean and healthy body. Some people have very faster success. Others work crazy HARD for it. Regardless, those who’ve achieved success in their health and fitness Never gave up. Never stopped showing up. Didn’t compare themselves and their progress to others and let it get them down. When you want to have the health and fitness outcome that most people just dream about, you have to be willing to do the things most people are unwilling to do. So, if you want the confidence, freedom, and vitality, do these 5 things: 1. Don’t quit 2. Show up consistently no matter what 3. Get support and accountability 4. Do the uncomfortable things that most people are unwilling to do (and do them often) 5. Believe and trust in yourself even through the hardest moments Success, quitting, or failure is 100% in your court. Once you own that, you can easily determine whether or not your daily decisions and actions are aligned to your health and fitness goals. PLEASE!!
