24.01.2022 We are closed for the holiday season and will be back on the 11 January. Wishing you all to stay safe with those new outbreaks of Covid-19. See you next year, looking forward to make more babies !

24.01.2022 After tubal ligation, IVF is not the only solution to restore fertility. In selected cases, the tube can be fixed: it is called a Tubal Reversal. The procedure is done laparoscopically, as a day surgery. It is a delicate surgery requiring advanced reproductive surgical skills. Unfortunately not available in the public service. https://youtu.be/esAMq8odedA

23.01.2022 Vale Paul Benos Goodbye my dear Paul, I will not be at your funeral at St Lazarre church today because of the distance, but you still have a huge place in my heart. One autumn morning in 1995, at the Arnaud de Villeneuve Hospital, you changed the course of my life, without knowing it. I was a young medical student, a little lost, looking for a direction to give to my studies and my future career. I was shadowing you at the clinic, and we had a busy morning. Unexpectedly come...s a young mother who wanted to show you her baby. She was a kid, probably a former drug addict, but you stopped everything to see her and hug her and cuddle her baby. She was so proud ... When she left, you turned to me, and your warm smile faded and you told me seriously that she was HIV positive and that we would have to wait another year before having confirmation whether or not the baby was HIV negative. I remained in shock, it was a revelation: it was the first time that I saw someone demonstrating so much empathy and humanity, in a medical world which can be so cold and technical sometimes. That day, I made the decision to choose our beautiful specialty, and try to be up to you. The years have passed and our relationship has changed from master / student to colleague, but each moment passed by your side has been a lesson of humanism. I realize that there will probably not be many of your patients still present to mourn you, you were taking care of cancer patients and HIV + patients, and many have already left us, but in the hearts of the Maternity caregivers, you leave such an empty place. My sincere thoughts go to Brigitte, Marion and Paul Antoine. Rest in peace, you fought well and you deserve some rest now. See more

22.01.2022 Our unit at the Wollongong Hospital has been involved in a multicenter international study aiming to validate the ultrasound-based endometriosis staging system (UBESS) proposed by Prof Condous, to predict the level of complexity of laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis. The paper was published last month in the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynaecology. https://www.jmig.org/article/S1553-4650(20)30184-9/fulltext

20.01.2022 Infertility is often the first really big hurdle a couple faces together and going through IVF can lead to them feeling alienated from one another due to different coping mechanisms or complicated feelings of guilt or regret. The good news is that Fertility Specialist Assoc Prof Lionel Reyftmann and Fertility Counselling Services Manager Evelyn Zwahlen told The Grace Tales that going through IVF can often bring a couple closer together. https://thegracetales.com/how-infertility-impacts-relation/

15.01.2022 Our new practice

11.01.2022 Despite the Covid crisis, I have kept on operating emergency cases. I had a very rare case last month: this young patient had a heterotopic twin pregnancy, with one pregnancy located in the angular portion of a left unicornuate uterus, and the right one in a rudimentary horn. This is a very unusual presentation and the operation requires advanced laparoscopic skills. https://youtu.be/ejbsEpdcFSM

10.01.2022 Here is link to a video demonstrating the surgical management of an interstitial ectopic pregnancy. https://youtu.be/ig5SvM6HdHo

08.01.2022 Last year, I posted about a new drug for the treatment of endometriosis: the relugolix. Our unit has been involved in a multi centre placebo controlled randomised study. The results have finally been released last month and look promising. https://investors.myovant.com//myovant-sciences-announces/

06.01.2022 Genea’s new advertising campaign is live: it presents a new story about where babies come from, presented in a warmer, more human way to speak to our patients. https://www.genea.com.au

02.01.2022 I found this old photo taken at the AGES annual meeting in 2017. I was awarded the prize for the Best Digital Communication Presentation by Prof Anusch Yazdani and Dr Haider Najjar.
