16.01.2022 Have you thought about playing Rugby. The IDRU will hold a coaching/introduction session for any and all women interested in Womens Rugby on Sunday 11 April 2021 at Vikings Rugby Club. Come one come all

16.01.2022 All, In these uncertain times, we just wanted to make sure that we keep you updated on what is happening as far as Illawarra Rugby is concerned. The board has already decided that the Senior Competition will be suspended for the first round of the 2020 season and that clubs will play each other once commencing on the scheduled date for round two, 28 June 2020. Training may commence in the first week in May. The finals will be played as originally scheduled.... The Juniors will plan to kick off the 2020 Competition on Sunday 17 May 2020. The competition will be reduced to a 10 round competition with finals commencing Sunday 23 August 2020. At this point in time given the current numbers in the girls, it is unlikely we will have a girls competition. The Board will meet as usual on the first Monday in April (6th). We will be seeking to make decisions on a number of important topics including the refunding of fees paid to date as appropriate. We have sought advice from NSW Country on the process for refunding the Player Participation and Insurance components of the Registration fee for players who have already registered for the full season and we are awaiting a response. Current Information coming out of NSW Rugby Super Rugby A domestic competition consisting of the Australian conference team played in front of empty stadiums was scheduled to start the weekend of April 4th. This has now been postponed until May 2, however, will be reviewed again based on health advice at the time. If the competition does begin, games are to be played for the foreseeable future in closed stadiums, which includes no hospitality or members. The team has been sent home and will continue individual training for a period of two weeks. Community All games and training throughout all levels of community rugby have been postponed to May 1st on current information. Schools have also postponed games until varying dates in May. Some schools are still looking to do various forms of training, and as they operate outside of our insurance policy, we are advising them but ultimately, they are making their own decisions. Currently tests positive in 1 Shute Shield club and 1 sub-districts club All development officers are restricted from entering schools or clubs under a combination of either school's rules for eternal parties or RugbyAU policy

15.01.2022 NSW Rugby, along with other sporting bodies, met with the NSW Office of sport yesterday afternoon to seek clarification on the current health advice. Post that meeting advice to us as a district (along with other zones) is the following # Competitions will go ahead as planned for this weekend... # Current zone competitions will be the defined boundaries for travel in regards to rugby participation # Any teams playing in a zone competition will be able to travel and play even if that is not the club's traditional zone or local government area (LGA) * Travel is allowed across Local Government Areas (LGA’s) to play in a zone competition Whilst we are able to keep our competitions going there has been some accommodations made to ensure that all the most important part of Rugby (our Club competitions) can play out their respective season. * No representative Rugby will be conducted across Country Rugby zones during this period * We will Minimise unnecessary travel within the zone for rugby-related activities ie. Rep training etc. * All NSW Rugby State Championships/ Events will be cancelled for 2020 Based on this advice from NSW Rugby the IDRU Board is comfortable for this weekends fixtures to go ahead in both Juniors and Seniors. Specifically for our Zone, the advice from NSW Rugby means; * The boundary for the purpose of intra-zone travel is the District boundaries and therefore there is no advice to limit travel between any of the clubs within the zone. * Junior teams that are playing in a competition outside of the IDRU Zone are permitted to continue in those competitions. We strongly encourage all players, spectators, officials and volunteers to strictly adhere to each clubs COVID safe plan and the COVIDsafe guidelines issued by the District. We will continue to monitor the advice and engage with the relevant authorities and will make any necessary changes as this advice develops.

14.01.2022 A message from the Waratahs.

12.01.2022 The planned round 2 competition will not go ahead. We will therefore not commence a competition on Saturday, June 27th. The Board has voted to suspend any Rugby Competition until Saturday 15 August 2020. Clubs are free to continue training in line with the current AIS training level and any future Government, Council directions. Commencing 15 August 2020 we will commence a modified competition called the 2020 COVID Cup. This will be a 2 grade 10 a side competition to be playe...d over six weeks across the distinct. This competition will depend on the number of teams nominated from clubs. The format will have each team playing a minimum of two 40 minute games over 5 rounds followed by a finals day in week 6. Each round will be allocated to a district area and will be split over two clubs to ensure each club gets one home Gala Day. The details of the competition will be advised to clubs in due course. Clubs may wish to organise Friendly matches between themselves. This activity will not be permitted until Government approval is received for contact sport to resume. Any club wishing to participate in a friendly match with another club must ensure that the match is sanctioned by the District. The criteria for gaining a sanction from the District will be sent to Clubs over the next couple of weeks. The board has come to this decision after considering the following; 1 . As a Board, we feel that a decision needed to be made now to ensure some certainty on what will happen with Rugby in the Illawarra. 2. As a Board, we have a Duty of Care to ensure we protect everyone involved in Rugby in the Illawarra. The Risk versus Reward equation in our opinion is such that we believe we should not commence a full-blown competition, this side of August. 3. At this point, We felt that there is insufficient time for the district, referees and clubs to be ready for a full 15 a side competition in June and/or July. 4. The Board believes that the resources required to commence a full competition prior to August would be too onerous and that a number of clubs would struggle to make the numbers required to support 2 or 3 grades. We see evidence that a number of clubs will struggle for volunteers at a time when they would be needed the most. At this point, a Junior Competition is provisionally due to commence on July 19 in an adjusted format. The Junior Committee will be working on the process for this competition to be presented to the board with final approval resting with the Board. All these measures are contingent on any and all government regulations in force at the time.

11.01.2022 As promised please see an update on the current position within the Illawarra District Rugby Union Junior Competition In line with the position held by Rugby Australia, the Board has decided that the suspension of all things rugby in the Illawarra, will continue now until the first week in June. Only the passage of time will give us an indication of any opportunity to play lat...Continue reading

04.01.2022 The State Government has started to relax some of the Social Distancing measures as of this week however, we are yet to receive any updates from Rugby Australia in relation to the future of Rugby competitions for 2020. The IDRU Board is still focused on getting both the Junior and Senior competitions up and running for 2020 in the months of June and July. This will, of course, be subject to any directions from the Government and/or Rugby Australia We remain committed to star...ting the Senior competition on Saturday, June 27th. All things going to plan training should be able to commence in the first week of June. The Board will firm up the details of the senior competition at the May Board meeting. A final go/no go decision will be made at the June Board meeting on Monday 1 June. As promised we have now developed a process for those players wishing to receive refunds for the IDRU Affiliation fee portion of their registration fees and/or any Junior Representative fees.
