25.01.2022 Available for adoption. This is Jolene, the feisty, terrified kitten whom I caught unexpectedly at our place as an assumed feral. Jolene has been in the most... fantastic foster home for the past three months and thanks to her carers’ patience has transformed completely. She would now be about 9 months give or take and has grown into the most stunning little lady. She has the softest fur I’ve touched. Jolene will always be a shy personality, naturally, but once she warms up to you she is a sweet, funny character. Jolene adores other cats and must find a home that has other feline company for her sanity. Jolene prefers human love to come from the same height as her - so when her human friends are on the couch or in bed for example. She is still afraid of having people walk towards her while she is on the ground. Loud and sudden noises etc also still startle Jolene, so a nice quiet home where there isn’t too much going on would be most suitable (so no young children). A single person or couple would be just perfect. Moving into a new place after all her progress will be a big change for Jolene, so her new family must understand she’s going to take a few weeks to adjust. Jolene has been speyed, microchipped & vaccinated and is up to date with flea & worm treatments. If you think you are the right match for Jolene please send us a message. See more

24.01.2022 Thanks all for sharing - Jolene has today gone on an adoption trial!

23.01.2022 Once again we are short of foster carers From next week we’ll have three male greyhounds looking for a place to stay short term. If you’d like to foster a lounge lizard, please send an inbox.

23.01.2022 Buffy has today made her way to Launceston to a wonderful foster home.

22.01.2022 The only thing better than adopting a greyhound, is adopting two! Meet sisters Bluey and Bingo. These girls are the best of friends. They’ll be two years ol...d next month (May). Bingo (white & black) and Bluey (white & blue) like to do everything together and are pretty much joined at the hip. We’d be thrilled if we could find them a forever home together. Both are very sweet girls - shy at first, but once they come out of their shells are so cheeky, loving and funny. Still puppies at heart, they looove playing with each other and their toys. Bingo especially is more outgoing, whilst Bluey is a bit more introverted. Two dogs are perfect company for each other while you are at work, plus these siblings are very self-entertaining and easily occupied with a kong aswell. Bingo loves water and standing aimlessly in her shell pool. Bluey & Bingo can be adopted separately, but our preference is obviously not to separate them if possible. The girls have been desexed, microchipped, vaccinated & wormed, and have received a flea/tick preventative. There will be a special adoption fee for the both of them in the hope of keeping two bonded sisters together forever. Share with your friends & family who could do with some gorgeous new family members! See more

21.01.2022 Hey guys! We are still really struggling to find foster homes for our greyhounds, and still have many more waiting to come into care when there is somewhere for them to go. If it’s your first time fostering a sighthound it’s preferred you have no other sorts of pets (except for other dogs of course). Currently I’m looking to place two large male dogs ASAP who are sweet but goofy and inexperienced at pet life. Given their size any other dogs in the home would need to be medium - large, and ideally no small children (simply so they didn’t get accidentally ran into). If you don’t meet that particular description but are interested in fostering, please do send me an inbox regardless as I can keep your details for other dogs in the future who may be suitable. Note foster homes must have secure yards.

19.01.2022 EDIT. Collin has found a foster home. Thanks guys! Foster home needed. Gorgeous Collin is looking for a foster home to visit for a few weeks. Collin is the sweetest dog you’ll ever meet. He is soooo cuddly and people orientated. So easy to fall in love with. Collin is 2 years old next month. He is perfectly behaved with other dogs. ... Collin is a bit of a sooky babe so we don’t think would do well somewhere he was left on his own. He would prefer someone home most of time (retired would be spot on), or other dogs for company if they’re not. He has not lived with other sorts of pets. If you’d like to foster Collin, please provide some info about your home/family type via messenger. See more

18.01.2022 Our brave Brody being a superstar donating blood yesterday to help another doggo in need. What a champion.

17.01.2022 ADOPTED. Meet Rosie Fish who was trapped on the side of a highway with her brother Buster. Assumably they were born feral - both were too feisty to handle initially, so I didn’t confirm their gender and this little one acquired the name Mr Fish. It was interesting when I later took Mr Fish to be castrated, and he was actually a girl. Mr Fish is now Rosie Fish and she has found the most purrfect home. Rosie Fish owes her life to our small group of foster carers who take a chance on these guys. It just goes to show you shouldn’t give up on a cat/kitten just because they are feral. This is why we tame, not euthanise. #adoptdontshop

16.01.2022 Some morning fun before the heat hits. This is Bolt (Kelpie), who comes to visit the greyhounds a few times a week and shows them how to play fetch. Beside him is his girlfriend Mia who is back visiting from foster care. Aaaand one of my own foster fails Howie on the end waiting eagerly for the tennis ball. #adoptagreyhound

16.01.2022 It’s coming up two years in care for poor Maggie and Lizzie. Please share and help us find them a home.

16.01.2022 P R I M R O S E This little girl is a sweet cookie. Primrose is a young adult puss that has been with us since last December. She was brought into care wi...th two tiny kittens (just days old at the time). Primrose currently lives in a busy foster home with children, other cats, and dogs. While she is still a little on the shy side with someone new, once warmed up to you she is bold and affectionate and purrs her heart out while lapping up a pat. Still a kitten at heart, Primrose has a ball playing with toys and absolutely loves playing with her feline friends also - so a home with other cats is a must. A foster to adopt arrangement would best suit Primrose’s situation - (so you can have her in your home for an agreed period of time with the aim to adopt if it works out). Please send us a message if you think you have the right home for this lovely little lady.

16.01.2022 Can you help? Cookie is another of our scaredy cats. Sadly these are the cats nobody wants to give a go, but they are the ones who need it the most. They a...re just sooo shy to begin with, that they cannot progress until they are given a chance in a foster home. Cookie is very sweet and has lots of potential but at this point in time is still so terrified. Scaredy cats are normally fostered out for a minimum 3 months (as it generally takes a while for - a) their personalities to show once they’ve come out of their shells and - b) someone to come forward to adopt them). They generally progress better with other cats in the home to help build some bravery, so this is preferred but not essential. Please let us know if you think you may be able to have a easy, rewarding visitor come and stay with you for a while! See more

15.01.2022 ADOPTED Beautiful girl Raven. Look how lucky she is, so spoilt and happy in her new amazing home with her new best mate Rusty. #adoptagreyhound

15.01.2022 For those generous people who like helping out - Felix is on special at Animal Tuckerbox until the end of the month. Our cats are very grateful for donations. We have drop off points at Number 10 Cafe New Norfolk, & Canine Candy Glenorchy (or can organise elsewhere if needed).

15.01.2022 MAGGIE & LIZZIE. If you are interested in these girls, please read carefully. Maggie & Lizzie have now been in their foster home for over EIGHTEEN MONTHS. ... This is so heartbreaking. They are beautiful girls who just need to find a home whom understands they are special & unique. Maggie & Lizzie are shy girls until they have been given a chance to warm up to you. They absolutely adore their foster carer, and when they do find a home, will be disgruntled for at least a few weeks after leaving the only home they know. Whoever adopts them MUST respect their space, and give them time to settle in somewhere new. They are NOT going to be your friend straight away. Maggie & Lizzie are best suited to a quiet home environment. They currently live with other adult cats, and a dog. Lizzie is a smooch once you’ve built a relationship, but Maggie is more independent and doesnt need human company to keep her happy. They are inseparable. Maggie & Lizzie are now about two years old. They are desexed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date with worming. They are inside only cats. If you think you meet the description and are interested, please send me an inbox to discuss. 13.01.2022 Do you have a couch that could do with some company? Have you considered fostering a GREYHOUND? It’s the best thing you’ll ever do (well, second to adopting one!) We have several lounge lizards looking for love/ short term foster homes. Our greyhounds come packed with their food, toys, beds rugs etc etc. All their carer needs to provide is somewhere safe to live, and everyday care.

13.01.2022 Meet Brutus. This big man is looking for a family to call his own. Brutus is a big friendly giant who will turn 2 in December. He enjoys the company of o...ther dogs and shares his current foster home with an elderly medium sized dog. He does rely a lot on the company of his mate, so would be best suited to a home with canine brothers/sisters. If not, and he were in in a sole dog home he would really need somebody who is home 99% of the time. Brutus is a real sweetheart and wants nothing more than your companionship and affectionate and will follow you around all day. If you’re interested in adopting this big goof, please get in touch via message. See more

12.01.2022 Hi guys! We are in need of a foster home for a shy but sweet female adult cat - no other pets. She is a lovely girl but not enjoying the other cats she shares her current foster family with. Please let us know if you can help.

11.01.2022 Wishing a happy happy 2nd birthday to a very special group of siblings (all rehomed 2020) Tom, Jerry, Willow, Luna, & Maggie. We hope you enjoy your first bday celebrations in your forever homes.

10.01.2022 Look at those eyes This is beautiful Bea. She is one of our long term (and likely lifelong) residents. Sadly I have so many of these dear cats who probably will not ever be adopted because they are so shy & fearful of strangers. What many people don’t realise is that these cats can completely turn around in the right hands and become terrific companions with a bit of patience and TLC. At this point in time we can no longer accomodate any more scaredy cats, though I am ...asked to collect/accept/trap feral and stray cats on a just about daily basis. What people don’t seem to understand is I just physically do not have anywhere to put any more cats. My cattery is at full capacity, our resources are exhausted & my poor foster carers have their hands full aswell. Some of the cats here at home with me have been here for four years! Not to mention I have foster carers who have been fostering said cats for 1-2 years. (This is generally because 1- it takes several months for the cats to come out of their shell to begin with, and 2- most people adopt either kittens, or bold/outgoing and confident adult cats - NOT the ones who will hide under the couch for the first few weeks when you bring them home). Until some of these cats go on to homes, I am not able to take in any more. For scaredy cats to be appealing to a potential adopter they need to have been fostered to gain trust of humans, and show their true personalities. Thank you to all the wonderful people have fostered and/or adopted some of our special scaredy or shy cats in the past. If you are wanting to help a cat like this - please consider fostering. It is such an easy but rewarding experience! You will literally be turning an animal’s life around and giving them a chance at finding a home. #fosteringsaveslives See more

10.01.2022 Is your New Years resolution cute and furry? Beautiful Jolene is back up for adoption. Jolene is about a year old, and is an absolute sweetheart. Though shy at first, once warmed up to you this awesome little lady full of affection and love. When she’s found her person she really clings to you and forms a close bond. Jolene is an all rounder - she has lived with other cats, a large dog and an older child (younger children might be a bit much for her). ... As with all cats, Jolene has been spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, wormed and has received a flea & tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $250. See more

10.01.2022 Poor Harriet is still looking for her forever home.

09.01.2022 Two more lives saved. These (presumably) brothers are very cranky & scared, but also warm, safe and finally have some food in their little bellies. It looks as though they went searching for food and ended up trapped in a skip bin for at least a few days, before they were thankfully heard by their rescuer. If you would like to help contribute to their care, we are in need of FELIX wet kitten food. Don’t forget our donation bin lives at Number 10 Cafe New Norfolk, (or we can organise alternative drop off points when needed).

09.01.2022 So many reasons to #adoptagreyhound Free entertainment is one of them! Raven (now Willow) ruling the roost in her new home.

09.01.2022 Big thanks to everybody who shared our posts for long termer Tank, who has been looking for a home for six months. He has met a family perfect for him and they’re going to take him home in a few weeks.

08.01.2022 Thankyou to the Animal Rescue Cooperative (ARC) for our most recent collection of donated goodies. 50kg of dog food and a huuuuge stack of litter. How awesome are they. #PetbarnFoundation #ARCG #AnimalRescueCraftGuild #ARC #AnimalRescueCooperative #WIRES

05.01.2022 Tank adventuring in his foster home.

04.01.2022 Hiya guys! What a busy couple of months it’s been with many more surrendered & stray animals, plus the usual workload. Unfortunately I’ve had some big surgeries and sick animals knock us around financially and our current vet bill is now sitting at $5,000. This includes all our normal routine procedures like neutering, microchipping, vaccinating etc etc but also includes making sure each animal has gold standard medical care. Some examples, as of late, Laci the Afghan ...has had a lump surgically removed and her teeth cleaned, and Tillie (a beautiful Burmese) also had a dental procedure with extractions. All these extra costs to make sure every animal gets exactly what they need before moving onto new homes, are never reimbursed by adoption fees. I will be picking up some extra work to try and slowly tackle that bill, but if anyone else would like to contribute your help is always so appreciated. You can donate via bank transfer, Illoura Animal Refuge. BSB 807009 Account Number 30069080 Or, At Montrose Vet Centre in clinic or over the phone (card payment), just ask to make a donation towards the Illoura Aninal Refuge account. *Throwback pics of Arnie, who was a complex but successful medical case. We have so much to thank our vets for!

04.01.2022 It’s time for GLADYS to find her furever home. Gladys is just the sweetest, dearest, older lady. I’ll be really sad to see her leave, she is a much loved visi...tor in our home. Gladys is a mature aged cat (est 9). Friendly & loving doesn’t even come close to describing Gladys. She loves anybody and everybody who’ll give her a little bit of love, and adores showering them with affection. Gladys doesn’t do much with her days other than laze around snoozing. Each night she sleeps on the pillow above my head. I think Gladys would most enjoy somebody who is home a lot, for her to follow around and snuggle. While she does tolerate dogs and other cats, Gladys would be happiest as the sole pet of the household. Gladys is spayed, in good health, fully vaccinated, microchipped and has had dental work done so her teeth are lovely and clean. She has had a course of arthritis injections which is recommended to continue on with every six months in her new life, so we will need to find a home who understand that commitment. See more

04.01.2022 ADOPTED Handsome Bruno found the most wonderful home. #adoptagreyhound

04.01.2022 Can you help? This sweet girl is Muffy. She was surrendered when her elderly owner could no longer take care of her. Muffy has had very limited socialisation and is a very very shy soul. But once she warms up to you, and is comfortable in a new place you will see what a smoocher she is. The catch? Muffy only thus far has been confident showing herself at night time! She prefers the nocturnal lifestyle - sleeping hidden away of a day and out looking for her humans’ lov...e during the evening/night. We are on the hunt for a special home for sweet Muffy - including a foster home, until she is adopted. Poor Muffy needs the type of home/family who can understand her timid ways and be patient with her. Given her nervousness, the quieter the home the better. Muffy is 9, and I think she would be happy both as an only pet, OR with the company of other cats. Please send a message if you think you can help dear Muffy. See more

03.01.2022 It’s so sad to see poor Brody STILL without a home Brody is awesome, it’s hard to believe he’s been waiting four months for someone to come and fall in love with him. This very handsome fellow is a real gentleman. He is three years old, relaxed enough to be bombproof and the most faithful friend & loyal companion. Everywhere his person goes, he follows like their shadow. Brody enjoys doing whatever his person is doing (especially snoozing on the couch/watching tv), walk...s (where he can make new friends), and car rides. He is fantastic with other dogs, but has not lived with other sorts of pets. Brody does however get some separation anxiety when left on his own, so needs a family where there are other dogs for company, and/or someone who spends most of their time at home. Brody is such a good, easy, happy dog. He is well mannered, well behaved, responds well to his name and has a great recall. I really can’t fault him. He does not need to be muzzled in public. If you think you are the family Brody’s been waiting for please send me a message to organise to come and see him. You won’t be disappointed See more

02.01.2022 Brutus is still looking for a family to call his own.

01.01.2022 Throwback Look at Willow all grown up. This little girl was found all alone under a shearing shed at about six weeks old. It’s an understatement to say she’s landed on her feet in her new home, where she is beyond spoilt and adored.

01.01.2022 So many happy snaps of Maggie living life to the fullest in her new home that I didn’t know which to pick to share. Thankyou to her foster family for their love during her time in care, and to her new adoptive parents for choosing to #adoptagreyhound

01.01.2022 Introducing Maggie. This funny little lady is now ready to find her own family. Maggie is 1.5 years old. She has such a sweet, gentle and loving nature. ...Maggie is a clinger and wants nothing more than to follow her person around all day - so she does need someone who can manage her clingy ways without causing separation anxiety in the future. Preference is a sole dog home where the hoomans are home to spend time with her. She also insists on sharing the couch for a snuggle. Maggie adores children and likes other dogs. She is very faithful. Maggie has not lived with cats/small animals/pocket pets. If you think you have the right home waiting for Maggie please get in touch through messenger. See more
