25.01.2022 Our NooK isn't just for play... you can also use it to help your kids build so many different skills! Lisa from Occupational Therapy Helping Children is a big fan of the NooK in her practice. Lisa has been a pioneering figure in Australia’s paediatric occupational therapy space, with over 30 years experience in both Australia and the US. Thanks to her extensive expertise, Lisa has been asked to present many talks, courses, events and research papers. Here are five of Lisa'...s top ideas for building skills through NooK play: 1. Create an obstacle course for the kids to practice their climbing, crawling and motor planning. Even crawling through a tunnel can help your child develop an understanding of where their body is in space. 2. For siblings, when they build together it helps to build co-operation and teamwork skills as they need to be flexible with their thinking. 3. To help with copying and planning skills, Lisa suggests printing the NooK builds from the website - https://mynook.com.au/pages/our-builds - and challenging the kids to recreate the build. Sometimes this can be harder than free play for some kids so it helps to stretch their skills and thinking. 4. Don't forget the babies! If you have a little one, the NooK is great for climbing and crawling over to develop those important gross motor skills. 5. Due to the size of the cushions, you can also lay all four of the NooK base cushions flat and use them as a gym mat.
