25.01.2022 Love it when the garden takes shape in its first year. Here’s my absolute favourite climber arching it’s tender shoots towards the light. The Chinese star jasmine! ... Love the lime green and contrast against the painted black wall and the promise of the perfume to come! All set to flower the next couple of weeks! Does anyone else notice the wall texture too against the leaves? What’s your favourite climber? See more

19.01.2022 Good morning! Hope that you're all well! So happy that I could help Simone and Ben with their garden a couple of weeks back by thinking outside the box. Always helps when you want the best results that make sense for the way the want to enjoy family time together!!

19.01.2022 "In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they're still beautiful," is the full quote from Alice Walker. Alice Walker was a novelist, poet, activist and Pulitzer Prize winner best known for her novel the Colour Purple. Her poetry often uses the symbolism of nature and flowers.... What do you think of her quote? See more

18.01.2022 Another plant to be wary off if you’ve got dogs that nibble on plants and that dig them up to munch on!! Thanks Dr Hamish!

18.01.2022 My top 3 considerations when choosing your fencing: Material and cost: The norm is to have a paling fence of course but there are so many more exciting materials out there to use. Obviously more expensive but do have a look at the ones that provide the visual appeal and objective that you're going for. Consider whether, for that spot, it needs to blend in the background for the garden to pop. OR does it need to shine on its own and add that extra dimension to your... outdoor space. It was the later objective that drove the fence choice for our Kew garden completed in 2016 (ref to pic). Height and privacy: It's a fine balance considering these and the fact that you also need to make sure you're not losing any vantage points or views that could enhance your enjoyment of your garden. E.g. you wouldn't want to block a beautiful mountain view but maybe consider lowering your fencelines or using fence toppers with more opacity (such as that in the pic) to allow for more light and some views to come through. Aesthetics: I'm a strong believer of using the fencelines are a framework or canvas and being a perfectionist I love the fact that I can utilise this aspect of a garden to "set the scene" so to speak. Choosing colours or textures that suit its surrounds certainly help layer the garden and make it pop! Would love to know what your top 3 considerations are! See more

16.01.2022 Details and texture Silvery grey and dark red hued bark. And the hint of purple in the distance. Love it when a project comes together and creates a beautiful aesthetic like this.... Vermont South 2018 See more

15.01.2022 Proteaceae People often mistake these for a native plant, but the Protea is actually the national flower of South Africa. In fact, protea belong to the same family of plants (Proteaceae) as Australia's native Banksias, Grevilleas and Waratahs. Plants from the Proteaceae family are found across the southern hemisphere across South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and South America.... A good tip for anyone planting a plant from this family of plants - they do not like to be moved. So be sure to pick the right spot and leave them be! If they are happy, they will reward you with flowers the size of your hands put together like this red one that's unfurling and they last for ages! Great as a cut flower too! See more

11.01.2022 Epimediums - wasn't familiar with these until a couple of years back and still studying them very carefully! Thankfully I have access to fabulous growers who share their knowledge with me and tempt me with what they have! The flowers don't last very long but when they do flower, they are absolutely delightful. There are forms where the flowers aren't very exciting but the leaf patterns are pretty cool! This is one of my favourites so far - has a naughty name too - Hot lips which I think is not only rather cheeky but rather apt too!

10.01.2022 Can you spot the jungle? Love it when concepts are materialised and look awesome! Love it when a design is able to be enjoyed from being indoors and out!... And love it with the design creates a feeling of a home resort, a place where you instantly feel relaxed and which brings a smile as soon as you open the door! Can you imagine, that the concept came about from discussions with the client about their idea of greening up the place and from their existing home decor! Keen observation, thinking outside the box and asking the right questions are key! One leaf became many in this case with a heavy play of colours that make the garden pop!!! I can't wait to see how the garden takes off over the next couple of years and hearing about how my clients are enjoying their new space. These DIY-ers rock! See more

05.01.2022 Really excited about this design coming up for construction next year! My clients dream of having her own sunken garden in her back yard. Something I've always been fascinated with myself as a young child and when I studied garden design. Some exciting features on this one - both in terms of the planting choices but also the colour palette and materials to be used. Yeah I'm practically wanting to fast forward time to see this coming to real life!... Oh given that I love plants - I've been hanging out to use the "pergola" shaped trees in one of my designs and this was the perfect opportunity for it. Not only to give the space additional vertical lines but to also give the garden additional shade in the summer heat! Cant wait till March 2021!!! See more

01.01.2022 Can you imagine?! I don't know if I would be happy with Spring only once a century! I'd rather have that feeling of awe with me every single day!
