25.01.2022 How do I keep my baby happy during a photography session? Chances are you probably wont! BUT good news is that babies don't cry forever (even if it feels like it sometimes) and even better is I don't put a time limit on my sessions, so you'll have all time in the world to settle, feed or change your little one. I promise even a minute or two of calm here or there is all I need to make amazing images.

24.01.2022 I photographed Laycee and her Mama Emily to be a part of my location guide back in July. After COVID-19 put a halt in my plan, but now I'm in the final stages of FINALLY completing it! 24.01.2022 It's one of the things I ALWAYS hear! Most of the time people have family portraits taken for a reason, sometimes it's a new baby, or a slightly older baby heading off to university, but it's not often people have family portraits taken just "because it's time". We have family portraits taken every single year, and it's something I encourage my clients to do as well. Your family will grow and change without you even realising, and it's so important to have a record for future generations!

23.01.2022 Show Realistic colour in your images!! Don't throw a preset or filter over everything so that your feed looks cohesive! Show your REAL Life! As a photographer I spend so much of my life analyzing colour and making sure prints aren't too green or magenta and look right, and it hurts my soul to see instafilters everywhere. You don't need a filter, you are perfect just the way you are

22.01.2022 One of the most important things you can do before hiring a photographer is to check out their previous work. Look at their websites, social media, if you know other people who have been photographed look at the images they purchased. Make sure you love their style. Photography is an art form, and every artist interprets the subject matter differently!

21.01.2022 When should you photograph your newborn? I always recommend scheduling your session as soon as possible, using within the first two weeks is optimal. Part of the joys of photographing newborns is showing just how tiny they are when they first arrived, and even though it might not feel like it, every single day they’re growing bigger and bigger.

20.01.2022 Oh Charlie!! One of my favourite things is capturing people's relationships with their pets! I always ask if my clients would like to include them in the portrait session, and most of the time I'm met with "Oh they're not well behaved" or "They won't sit and stay for you, so we won't worry about including them" I like to encourage people to include their animals - Cause trust me, I've got the patience to deal with untrained dogs that don't sit - and because they're part of your family. They're a part of your story! I know you wouldn't leave one of the kids out of your family portraits because they're not as well behaved as the others, so why would you leave the dog out??

18.01.2022 Sometimes it's hard to know WHAT questions to ask during the pre-shoot consult. It's important that we nut out all the basics the Who, What, Where and When's, but theres also 4 questions which I wish everyone would ask of ANY photographer they talk to. 1. How long do you store your files for? Are they secure? Will I be able to reorder in the future? 2. Will I recieve digital files on a USB? 3. Do the printed images have a warranty?... 4. Do you have payment plans? What other questions are you dying to ask a photographer?

17.01.2022 Matt and I are currently supposed to be in Japan on our Honeymoon. We got married in January, but decided to wait until September to go on our honeymoon - cause you know... Tassie is actually nice is January. Looking back now, we know that we are so lucky to have even gotten our wedding in at all, we're so lucky that our loved ones were able to travel to Tassie and be a part of the day. At the time we had said "This Corona Virus thing will be over by September! It's 8 months... away!" and here we are, 8 months later, feeling like there's no end in sight. We are so lucky to be stuck on this little COVID-free island and getting the pleasure of exploring parts of this state we haven't gotten to explore before. But I can't help be a little sad that we're missing our honeymoon, and Japanese sushi, and Disneyland and all the cool stuff we had planned. See more

17.01.2022 Sometimes getting kids to sit still is near impossible. Sometimes I spend an entire shoot running after them. I once had a 2 year old who would only interact with me by hissing at me like a cat! (his brother told me it was his dinosaur noise!) They say not to work with kids and animals and I do it on the daily (and by my own choice too!) so I'm used the the challenges that can sometimes come with that! But you know what the most helpful thing you as a parent/adult can do for... me during a shoot when it doesn't feel like anything is going right? JUST RELAX I promise I'm getting photos, and I promise I won't leave until I've gotten something! (I might leave tired and worn out but Hey! that's part of the job!)When you get agitated the kids get agitated and that DEFINITELY doesn't help! 16.01.2022 One of my favourite prompts with kids is to ask them to look directly into my lens and ask if they can see my eye blinking! - It's actually just my shutter clicking but it makes them look directly into the lens!

15.01.2022 I normally shoot alone, I don't have an assistant or anyone that comes with me. But this particular shoot it was meant to rain and we weren't able to reschedule, so I brought Matt along with me to hold umbrellas and took advantage when the rain stopped and got him to hold my golden reflector for me. When we got home he asked if he did a good job holding the "glow pad"? My reflector will forever known in our house as the glow pad.

12.01.2022 Every Christmas we take "wall photos" a portrait of each of us and a family portrait that will hang on the walls of my parent's house. My sister and I each have a wall of 16 portraits hanging outside our old bedrooms. Each year we take one down and replace it with a current one. The extras go into a box so we still have a whole collection together, even though it's no longer on the wall. It's an ever changing documentation of our lives. When was the last time you had proper family portraits taken that hung on your wall?

10.01.2022 Kate bought the most amazing dress for her maternity shoot! She texted me a photo asking if it was "Too Extra"? No such thing. She looked absolutely glorious! and don't get me started on the sparkly gum boots she paired it with (winter in Tassie, you gotta do what you gotta do right?) I really love it when my clients put so much thought into what they wear and I love it even more when I get asked for input! I'm ALWAYS up for a "does this top match these pants?" or "do these three outfits go together?" texts.

10.01.2022 Look... here's the thing... I grew up with a photographer. I understand.... like seriously how many times do you need to stop on the drive down to Hobart? But now I have become that monster I think Matt should consider himself lucky that landscape photography isn't my passion!!

09.01.2022 Hey Friends, It's that time of the month where I introduce myself to the new faces here! I'm Sam! I've been a photographer for 10 years now (umm holy shit, how am I that old to have been doing something for 10 years??) and it really is the best job I could ask for! I'm a messy organizational freak, I love when puzzles click together satisfyingly, I'm a bit of a warden when it comes to budgeting (just ask Matt who doesn't have a boat yet), and I spend most of my days in the office with at least one dog at my feet. I started my photography career as a printer, so that's definitely my favourite part of the whole process! I LOVE seeing my pictures come to life out of the computer! 09.01.2022 "I actually have photos of my baby and my self that I'm in love with!! And they aren't selfies!!! I'm so in love with all the wonderful images" - One of my favourite things about being a photographer is being able to give Mum's photographs of themselves with their little ones that they fall in love with. It's important for them to have pictures with their mum, even if you don't feel like it. (I've said it before and I'll say it again, when was the last time you looked at your mum and thought "jeeze she looks awful, she's stacked on 5kgs for sure".... yeah... never.... That's what I thought)

09.01.2022 THIS is why I do what I do... I know a lot of folks, especially of my generation, are obsessed with out pictures. It's probably the main reason we'll spend $1000+ every time a new freaking iphone is released - because of the camera... But how often are those photos taken with thought and purpose and printed and hung in pride of place in our homes?

07.01.2022 I swear Dexter has the most gorgeous smile! and he's the sweetest boy, his Mama @jessica_obrien91 is pretty rad too! I love when folks trust me to photograph their fur babies. I won't lie, it's not the easiest job in the world, and they definitely require a lot of patience, but my god, it is so worth it!

07.01.2022 Holly bank is one of my favorite spots near Launceston! Matt and I got married there so it holds a pretty special spot in my heart. 07.01.2022 Photographing newborns is really all about showing just how tiny they are. People always think I'm joking when I say the best time to schedule your shoot is on your way home from the hospital. Your baby will triple in size without you even realising and part of the joys of photographing babies, is documenting how small they were. So schedule your newborn shoot for the week of your due date! We can always reschedule if you've got a bub who wants to stay cooking for a bit longer, but you can never get those days back if you wait too long. **In saying that, I'm never going to tell you you're babe is too big for newborn photos!**

07.01.2022 I had a conversation with a beautiful mama the other day. We had a maternity shoot scheduled and she was fretting over what to wear for her shoot, she said she felt like an "absolute hideous lump" (her words not mine!!) and was worried that no matter what she was going to look shit. UMMM.... Can I get a fuck you pregnancy hormones?? So I was truthful with her, I told her that what she wears doesn't actually matter... that she would look beautiful regardless of whether she wo...re a ball gown or her PJ's, and that in years time she would look back on these photos and not even think about the clothing she was wearing, she would look back and remember some of the last times her family was a family of 3 and how it was before this fourth member of their family came along. I told her not to get so worked up about what she was wearing that she couldn't just enjoy this time with her family. And guess what? She looked stunning and her shoot was a success, and I didn't leave thinking "omg what am earth am I going to salvage out of this?". When I left I got in my car and called Matt and I told him I think this is the best maternity shoot I've ever done and I can't wait to show her the pictures I took and show her how I see her, because sometimes mirrors will lie to you, but my camera never will. 05.01.2022 I photographed Jess and Dexter out at Hollybank and I'm not gonna lie, I think that place has magical properties because I just FEEL it every single time I'm there! Maybe I'm biased because we got married there, or maybe it is actually magic. What's not magic is how adorable Dexter is! This portfolio box is the perfect way to store your image collections! 05.01.2022 Last year I started offering Christmas Ornaments, and this year I've done a really crappy job of advertising them! Every year we have family portraits taken so I'm making it my goal to get an ornament for our Christmas tree of our family the year before.
