13.01.2022 imaginationGYM - Sydney, Staff Training Course Coming soon. Providing effective Activity Therapy for Alzheimer’s & Dementia clients in an enjoyable & cost effective programme... Recently presented at the Hammondcare International Dementia Conference at the Sydney Hilton 2016 and also at the University of Sterling, Scotland - Ideas Lab 2015. imaginationGYM Therapy for Dementia patients is a new initiative originating in Ireland, creating many shifts in the demeanour of Dementia patients imaginationGYM Therapy for Dementia patients is a staff training course for professionals in residential home elder care. The course teaches staff how to provide activity therapy for patients with Alzheimer’s and Dementia based on the successful ImaginationGYM methodology. Providing activity therapy can be quite a difficult task for many staff and the course will not only teach staff how to deliver effective activity therapy but will also provide evidence and case studies on our research in this area. The course is also suitable for Nurses, Activity Therapists/Coordinators and other carers working with the elderly in residential care This is a very cost effective way of delivering an activity program in your Nursing Home on a regular basis. After initial training and set up costs, annualised costs per capita for each workshop can be measured in cents. We recommend the programme is run at least once a week for clients as it has a progressively beneficial impact. Key outcomes included: Reduction of stress Increased engagement Improved communication Helpful behaviour management A very enjoyable experience for both clients & staff Stimulation of all senses Group work Cumulative positive affects over time.

12.01.2022 I discovered the magic of ImaginationGym when working in a High School. It was originally designed for Primary School aged children, but it soon proved to benefit all ages. The year that I used this program all of my classes were very challenging. I had used everything in my basket of experience to reach them and nothing was working. In an attempt to have a relaxing lesson, I used the CD from the 'ImaginationGym' series called 'The Enchanted Forest" There was much excitement... when the classes realised that they were not going to have a regular lesson and they soon all relaxed into the beautiful sounds of the CD and the audio story spoken with the beautiful voice of Rosaleen Durkin, the creator of the program. At the end of the 28 minute audio, I had the most amazing responses. Many of the students were bursting to express willingly their experiences with the imagination world of the CD. Only 28 minutes earlier these same students were very angry with the world and very defiant and unresponsive. Their faces changed from angry to animated, to calm and peaceful and so did their voices. They begged me for a copy of the CD which at that point was one of only a few in Australia. They stopped me in the corridors to tell their mates in other classes how good the CD was and to ask their PE teacher to use it with them. All of my classes changed from that moment. This program reached these children on an emotional level and touched them in away that created a positive change. Their relationship with me changed immediately and we were then able to get on with our lessons and learn in a way that was not possible before. This program offers so much. This emotional shift is only a small but large part of it. In the classroom, it also achieves amazing results in creative writing, art, self expression and so on.
