25.01.2022 Good morning it’s NAIDOC week. The theme is Always Was, Always Will Be. It recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples This video is from Tilli Geers in Basket Range. Tillie has also been given an Aboriginal name by dear friends in Emu Point, NT. Her skin name is Pandella.... What does NAIDOC week mean to you? What does it mean to you to be living on Kaurna and Peramangk land? We are collecting local short videos from our community to share as part of NAIDOC week. We’d love your contribution in video, writing or photo. You can send your contribution to [email protected] or directly to our social accounts. Videos should be landscape and no more than 30 seconds. Tell us your name and where you’re from. Huge thanks in advance for your contributions. If you’re not aware, NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. 15.01.2022 When I think about climate change, it’s not Paris or Kyoto that comes to mind. It’s the places right here at home which are most at risk from climate change. Helen Haines MP Locally the growers of our berries, cherries, apples, flowers, grapes and vegetables who rely on spring rains are at front of mind. Hills wine makers who want to be making the best wines and not be impacted by smoke taint. We know our district proudly grows so much world class produce and we know we rel...y heavily on our climate for its fruition. So it was terrific news when the Climate Change Bill (CCB) was tabled to parliament on Monday. The Climate Change Bill is a proposed law to ensure the long-term safety, security and prosperity of Australia by achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. There’s great information on how the Climate Change Bill will help the economy, environment and trade here: https://climateactnow.com.auThe Bill will now go to a public inquiry with submissions open immediately, but closing 5pm Friday 27 November! So now is the chance to have your say by making a formal submission here: https://www.aph.gov.au//Environment_and_E/ClimateBills2020 (or google Climate Change Bill submission and select the www.aph.gov.au link) Now is YOUR chance to have YOUR say about why Australia needs the Climate Change Act by making a submission to the House Standing Commitee on the Environment and Energy. What should my submission include? In your submission, you may wish to address any or all of the following aspects of the Bill: 1 Objectives and long-term emissions reduction commitment 2 Why legislating Net Zero by 2050 and regular 5 year budgets is important 3 Guiding principles to be applied 4 Risk and adaptation assessments for all sectors 5 Technology readiness assessment 6 Independent climate change commission and skills needed on the commission. In you submission be original, make references to sections to the Bill and avoid emotive language. #climateactnow #adelaidehills #uraidla

09.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. We are spiritually and culturally connected to this country.... Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. We built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Our adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled us to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and our cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. For us, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. 07.01.2022 Citizen of the Year Awards will close on Friday 20 November. We so often hear about people who should have been nominated, but everyone thought someone else would do it. Please don’t let this happen to someone you appreciate! Adelaide Hills Council want to make sure they have as many nominations as possible, particularly after such a challenging year.... They have a wonderful number already, but are missing, in particular, recognition of young people in our district. Please take five minutes to enter a nomination for someone deserving of recognition. 04.01.2022 Niina marni (hello), NAIDOC week to me is about stopping for a moment and thinking about the history of this nation and the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from the past, present and future. Paul from Summertown. It’s easy sometimes for Australians to think of Indigenous languages as something of the past, but by having the audio, it brings them to life. It becomes real, which is why it is so moving to hear the voices," Professor Nordlinger said.... If you’re keen to learn more about native languages across Australia then check out https://50words.online You can search by language or by word - including "hello", "welcome", "hello", "goodbye", "yes" and "no" as well as phrases, words for family members, animals and the local environment. The University of Melbourne's Research Unit for Indigenous Language is working directly with communities and language speakers to build the tool, which has been in development for two years. What does NAIDOC week mean to you? Tell us via our socials or email [email protected] #adelaidehills #naidoc2020 #uraidla
01.01.2022 Good evening lovely friends, hope you’re all doing ok after this unexpected week. It’s moments like this that test our resilience, our community connections and flexibility. We can’t imagine how tough it’s been for businesses who had lost revenue, cancelled bookings and spoiled food. We hope as a community we can support local this holiday season. Whether it’s through buying someone a voucher for a massage, booking a family lunch or ordering your party beverages from some of ...the many local businesses around the district. In the coming week our next newsletter will be coming out and if you’ve got content you’d like to share we’d love to receive it ([email protected]) So as the sun sets over our district (this view is over Ashton), take a moment to find solace in the nature that surrounds us. #adelaidehills
