22.01.2022 We're just a couple of days away from the second of our two August workshops: Becoming more competent: solid strategies for facilitating learning. The workshop is based on the principles of Social Role Valorisation (SRV). Your host is John Armstrong, who is well-known to many of us and who has conducted a number of two-day SRV workshops for Imagine More.... Over six sessions, attendees will explore our framework for using NDIS funding in non-traditional ways to help their family members enjoy a typical, age-appropriate experience of all the good things in life. A seasonal business, they roast and sell chestnuts from Annie’s grandparents’ farm. The family demonstrates how important it was to value Annie’s strengths and interests. You’ll see the power of planning and of taking the first steps, even when it all seems overwhelming. You’ll also see the importance of putting the right supports in... place. We've not long wrapped up Day Two of the Towards a Better Life Workshop! It was another day packed with learning about Social Role Valorisation, taught by the wonderful John Armstrong. A huge thank you to everyone who carved out two days to attend. It was truly lovely to be at a live workshop again, and to spend two days in the company of so many motivated, thoughtful, and positive people. It's been an intense couple of days! We predict that some of the attendees will sleep very soundly as they process the information, while others won't be able to sleep because they'll be so excited thinking of the many ways they'll be able to apply their knowledge. We hope that we'll be able to welcome John back to Canberra again in the not-too-distant future. We're also looking forward to our next live workshop in March. The topic is Inclusive Education. But the high school years fly past in the blink of an eye! The sooner that students and their families start e...xploring their options and planning for work, the better. Many people assume that a person with disability will struggle to find work in Open Employment. Yet, with the right supports, young Australians with disability are taking their rightful place in the workforce. They earn a living, contribute positively to their workplace, and acquire skills for future employment. In this introductory workshop, we’ll help you and your student to imagine the valued work roles they can strive towards. Join us during lunch for 60 minutes of learning and discussion. Jane is a practising accountant and the owner of Hadrill Accounting in Canberra. Kirsten has been a part of the Hadrill team since 2012 and has been working with NDIS participants since 2016 in her role as Senior NDIS Plan Manager. Together they will speak with us about directly employing staff using NDIS funding. We will learn about ...the benefits of directly employing staff, including greater choice and control greater value for money the ability to formalise private arrangements. The presentation will also cover how to organise tax payments manage your employees arrange insurance cover and meet workplace health and safety obligations. It’s an important role which involves maintaining stocks of sterile glassware for use by research scientists, and other tasks critical to the compliance and safe operations of the lab. He works five mornings a week and is paid award wages. 03.01.2022 Our Self-Managing NDIS Peer Support Group meets next Friday, October 2. Our guest speakers for this meeting are Jane Hadrill and Kirsten Merlino. Jane is a practising accountant and the owner of Hadrill Accounting in Canberra. Kirsten has been a part of the Hadrill team since 2012 and has been working with NDIS participants since 2016 in her role as Senior NDIS Plan Manager. Together they will speak with us about directly employing staff using NDIS funding. We will learn abou...t the benefits of directly employing staff, including greater choice and control greater value for money the ability to formalise private arrangements. The presentation will also cover how to organise tax payments manage your employees arrange insurance cover and meet workplace health and safety obligations.
