13.01.2022 Into the Abyss. Good afternoon everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Xmas and are enjoying some time of work catching up with friends and family! I see some... parts of Australia are getting hammered by relentless heat up in the mid to high 40's, closer to home in SE QLD it's pretty mild and bearable lately compared to our normal Summer temps. The downside of that is we've had hardly any storms this season and looking at the maps the next week also looks pretty quiet :( So I thought I'd share some more images from the picturesque storm I chased on Friday the 21st December in Northern NSW with my mates Dale from DK Photography and Gav from Gavin Connolly Photography. This is a single frame captured as the shelf cloud came right over our heads, into the "whales mouth". It's an exhilarating feeling holding your nerve and your ground as a large storm bears down on you. Not only are lightning strikes deadly and a very real possibility but severe storms with green cores usually unload large hail which isn't so great for your cars complexion. Luckily for us we managed to get the shots and avoided being hit by hail but a lightning strike in this frame would have been nice! Maybe next time haha. Photographing Mother Nature's more extreme moods is definitely very addictive, here's hoping we get a few more chances to capture those magical moments before the storm season ends. As always feel free to share ;) If you are on Instagram you can find me here - www.instagram.com/danmahonyphotography Visit NSW I Australia.com I Higgins Storm Chasing I South Brisbane Storms I MORECAST I Weatherzone I Bureau of Meteorology I Tony Auden I ABC News Weather I North Coast Storm Chasers I Severe Weather World I Severe Weather Australia I The Weather Channel I Thunderstorms I Thunderstorms I Lightning and Thunderstorms I Nikon I #mynikonlife
