21.01.2022 "Become a better version of yourself" has a different meaning for everyone. A couple of mates and IMF Virtual Run participants from last year share what this means to them, and why running is such an important part of their lives. Mark Buhmann: "What makes a better version of me? Not sure but I think for me becoming more balanced both physically and mentally. Still very much a work in progress but running and cycling help in both aspects as does my yoga and meditation. Having... a heart valve replaced, quitting smoking and taking up running 2 1/2 years ago was my turning point. Supporting causes like IMF and others with my running is a part of my gratitude for being here." Sean Lyons: "Regular running sessions have helped my mental health, providing time to clear my head so I can return to life in a calm & balanced state." We love the support of our running community. Thanks for sharing guys! #RunSweatInspire #thursdaythoughts #becomeabetterversionofyourself #IMFVirtualRun

15.01.2022 #Repost @melbourneinstarunners... very well said. Stay positive! . Our thoughts are with all Victorians right now! #inthistogether #stayconnected #staypositive #staysafe #runsweatinspire... Southbank , Melbourne LOCKDOWN STAGE 4! Have we written off 2020? Maybe our big events, but not our running! We can still run! We can still PB! 1 hour a day might be plenty for some, not enough for others, some people might give up a rest day to fit the hours/kms per week in, the 5km radius might be challenging for some finding a good safe place to run, but we can still run. 2020 goals adjusted and readjusted, and we can adjust and adapt again if we need to. This year is turning into a marathon and we keep hitting ‘the wall’ but we will get past it. That 1 hour a day can play a huge role for us all, physically and mentally. Over the next 6 weeks we are not here to find loopholes or judge anyone, we are in this together. Thoughts are with those doing it tough during these times. 12.01.2022 Well done and great to see 2018 IMP Graduate #78 Torey Rickerby continuing to inspire and be a positive role model to his community. Repost @frontrunnerperformance ++ MEET TOREY RICKERBY ++... Torey is passionate about community being founder of the Perth Deadly Runners and a graduate of the The Indigenous Marathon Foundation. Genuine, intelligent and engaged, Torey combines his community work with professional career as an engineer and his goal is the magic sub 3hr marathon. Meet one of our finest.... When did you get started on your running journey? In 2018 I was selected to train for the New York City Marathon as part of the Indigenous Marathon Project. I have ran regularly ever since and don't think I'll ever stop! Summarise what running means to you in one sentence Running is a means to inspire my community to live a healthy life and to show them that with a little hard work, you can achieve great things in life. Describe your current weekly training programme? I'm in the process of ramping up for the Perth Half Marathon after coming out of an anxiety riddled period of injury where consistency went out the window! I'm back to Threshold Thursdays and a 1:45 long run over the weekend. The rest is filled with easy runs totalling approx. 50km for the week. What are your current PB’s? 5km: 21:10 Jan 2020 in training 10km: 44:28 Fremantle Running Festival 2019 21.1km: 1:36 Busselton Half Marathon 2020 42.195km: 3:57:36 New York City Marathon 2018 What is your proudest running achievement to date? Running the 2018 New York City Marathon is the proudest achievement of my life. I was out there with 10 of my brothers and sisters from the Indigenous Marathon Project. It was a hard slog out that day going for my first marathon. The steep bridges and tough concrete roads were relentless on my body however I made it across the finish line without stopping once. The 42.195km race was a journey synonymous to the many hardships I have faced in my life and how I've always overcome them which made crossing that line my proudest achievement ever. The harder the struggle the greater the reward. Who is your Front Runner coach? Raf What have you valued most about being a #frontrunnertrained athlete? Community. Running to me is nothing without a community. Front Runner is a community where we can all strive.
