Also wear a face mask, use hand sanitizer, social distance 4m2 and no singing is allowed (only the choir). Christmas Eve 5.30pm Vigil is outdoors so please bring a folding chair and a blanket. Weather permitting.... The Christmas Day 9.30am and 11am Masses may also be held outdoors depending on numbers. We acknowledge and follow COVID safe rules and we thank you for your support. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!

16.01.2022 Today we honour Australia's first saint, Mary of the Cross MacKillop, who shows us that the heroic virtue of sainthood is not alien to Australians. She was one ...of us and did great things with God. May Mary continue to give our young people confidence and ideals for the future, so that her life will continue to bear fruit for generations to come. St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us!

16.01.2022 Welcome to NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A. 8/9 AUGUST 2020 http://www.seftoncatholicchurch.org.au//Bulletin-8-9-AUGUS " O Jerusalem, glorify the Lord, who gives you your fill of finest wheat "

15.01.2022 Very Rev Fr Maurice Thompson would like to extend his sincere thanks for the many warm greetings and gifts given to him on the celebration of his 25th Anniversary of Ordination. He feels humbled and blessed to have been a priest to the various schools, parishes, Samoan Communities and the Archdiocese of Sydney throughout the years. He hopes, that maybe one day in the future, we may all gather safely and have a parish and community celebration. Please join him in prayer for the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

15.01.2022 Friends, I would like to pay tribute to the Melkite Catholic community who have donated a sapling Cedar tree of Lebanon which I planted today alongside my broth...er Bishop Robert Rabbat on the grounds of St Mary's Cathedral, beside the entrance to the Crypt. We came together as fellow Catholics to pray for the victims of the unrest in Beirut in August which killed at least 178 people, left thousands more injured and 300,000 people homeless. The cedar tree is a powerful symbol of the special friendship between the two Catholic sister churches which dates back in Australia to the early 1800s and today indeed also marks the 77th anniversary of Lebanon's independence. The Melkite Youth Association, iMelkite, also led a cycling pilgrimage, "A Ride for Hope" from St Michael the Archangel Cathedral in Darlington to St Mary's Cathedral and back this morning to also honour and fundraise to repair student accommodation which was damaged during the unrest in August. We very much stand in solidarity with our friends in the Melkite and Maronite churches, especially in their time of need. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Lebanon, let us unite in a prayer for healing after the August attack and for the protection of Lebanon. Our Lady of Lebanon, pray for us! 13.01.2022 In our epistle today, St Paul sings to us what was possibly the first Christian hymn, about Jesus emptying Himself to assume our human condition and then subjec...ting Himself to the Father in obedience even unto death, death on a cross. Our Gospels and the chronicles of our Church record many heroic stories of people who left everything to follow God’s will for them. This is true of St Paul, Mary and the early disciples. Such trusting and amenable souls as these challenge us to see that genuine freedom is not self-seeking licence, genuine authority is not self-assertive power. Rather, freedom is found in serving others and authority in compromising our wills for the common good. Mass attendance is still limited to 100 people under COVID-19 restrictions. I invite you to join me for a livestreamed Mass at 1030am from St Mary's Cathedral here: https://bit.ly/305iHbp

13.01.2022 Our 2021 Easter message from Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP.

13.01.2022 Pope Francis calls for prayers for Lebanon after deadly explosion in Beirut August 6, 2020 By CNS... Disaster zone: Smoldering debris is seen in Beirut following explosions the previous day. Two massive explosions near the port of the Lebanese capital injured dozens of people and shattered windows in buildings blocks away. Photo: CNS AFTER a massive fire triggered a deadly explosion in Beirut, Pope Francis called for prayers and a united effort to help Lebanon overcome this serious crisis. Let us pray for the victims and their family members, and let us pray for Lebanon so that with the effort of everyone in society political and religious it may face this tragic and painful moment and, with the help of the international community, overcome the serious crisis it is experiencing, the Pope said at the end of his general audience on August 5. The morning after a devastating explosion rocked the citys port area August 4, at least 100 people were reported dead, more than 4000 others were injured, and more than 100 people were missing. Call for prayers: Pope Francis prays for Lebanon. Rescue workers continued to search for survivors under the rubble. Lebanese President Michel Aoun said the blast was caused by thousands of tons of ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse that had caught fire. The shock waves from the explosion flattened nearby structures, shattered glass and shook buildings throughout the city in the tiny Mediterranean nation already devastated by the coronavirus and its worst financial crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war. A recent report by the UN World Food Program said almost 50% of Lebanese citizens along with 63 per cent of Palestinian refugees and 75 per cent of Syrian refugees in the country were worried they could find enough food.

11.01.2022 The Archdiocese of Sydney and St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney have been blessed with visits from four saints that we know of: St Mary MacKillop, St Paul VI, St Te...resa of Calcutta and St John Paul the Great. Pope Paul visited us 50 years ago today. I was ten years old and attended my first papal Mass at Randwick. It was very exciting. There are many people in Sydney who were there also and so I am able to say to them: that’s the first time we went to Mass together! In that half a century, we have had four papal visits, the most recent having been Pope Benedict XVI's visit for World Youth Day in 2008. I pray for many more such visits in the years ahead. 11.01.2022 Congratulations to our four new priests: Frs John Pham, Noel Custodio, Roberto Keryakos and Jonathan Vala who were ordained today (Saturday, 19/9/20) at a Mass at St Mary's Cathedral. The Class of 2020 will forever be identified with the Year of the Virus and this will shape your mission: for beyond COVID you must help rebuild people's confidence and trust and reawaken their hunger for that Eucharist and community they can only find at Mass. I pray that you may from today be pandemoy or spiritual pandemics for all the people. God bless you in your many decades of ministry ahead. -Archbishop Anthony Fisher

11.01.2022 WE ARE LIVE-STREAMING THE CHRISTMAS DAY 9.30AM MASS FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT PERSONALLY ATTEND. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

11.01.2022 Over two years ago, I ordained a very talented young priest Fr Matthew Meagher who is now doing great work as Assistant Priest at All Saints Parish in Liverpool.... Many of you will know of Fr Matthew’s uncle Fr Danny Meagher, who has worked over a number of years as Rector of the Good Shepherd Seminary. In this video, Fr Matthew speaks about his personal faith journey and his hopes for his parishioners as we prepare to launch a new Archdiocesan Mission plan in December, Go Make Disciples, focused on renewing our Church to better serve the mission of Jesus Christ.#GMDSydney #GoMakeDisciples See more

08.01.2022 Today is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. Upon her death, Mary was taken into heaven, body and soul. Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. ... Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen We have three parishes dedicated to Our Lady, Our Lady of Lourdes Earlwood, St Mary Queen of Heaven, Georges Hall, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Sefton. Take the time to visit one of these parishes this weekend.

08.01.2022 Friends, as we look to the future, our Church is called to place our encounter with Jesus Christ anew at the heart of our life, our structures and our ways of d...oing things. On 12 December, I will be launching a new Archdiocesan Mission Plan, Go Make Disciples, aimed at supporting our parishes and other Eucharistic communities in their mission to lead others to an encounter with Christ, so they may be true centres of the new evangelisation. Watch and share a powerful testimony below from All Saints Liverpool youth minister Cheryl Anthony speaking about her own faith journey which I believe can inspire other young people in Sydney and beyond. Like the first Christians emerging from the dark times of Holy Week, may we hear the Risen Jesus saying to us: Go Make Disciples! #GMDSydney #GoMakeDisciples

05.01.2022 In the Archdiocese of Sydney, we have a special affection for Our Lady Help of Christians, who is not only the patron saint of our country, but also our cathedr...al and the college which stands beside it. In colonial Sydney, pioneer priest Fr John Therry dedicated the first Catholic Church to Our Lady Help of Christians to help guide the Church at a time when Mass was rarely permitted over the previous three decades and colonial Catholics found great comfort in the Rosary to help nurture their faith. We indeed turn again to Our Lady for her intercession today as our nation struggles with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. As I look towards launching a new Archdiocesan Mission on 12 December, Go Make Disciples, I ask you to join with me in a prayer through the intercession of our nation’s patroness, Our Lady Help of Christians, that through her help, our parishes may help lead growing numbers of Sydneysiders into a personal encounter with Jesus in the years ahead. I encourage you to read more about Go Make Disciples on our dedicated website: www.gomakedisciples.org.au Our Lady Help of Christians, pray for us! #GMDSydney #GoMakeDisciples
