25.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY | For something a little different, we take a look back at how the College has changed and grown from humble beginnings in 1979 to where we are today in 2020. The transformation has been huge and there are plans to refurbish some of our older buildings over the next couple of years. If you haven’t been back to the ILC for a long time and would like to see how it’s changed, Old Scholars are always very welcome to take a tour. Please contact Lauren Nielsen, Com...munity Relations and Event Coordinator on T: 07 5477 3419 or E: [email protected] for more information. #ILCOldScholars #WeAreImmanuel #ImmanuelLutheranCollege #BuildingCommunity

25.01.2022 For those 'sucky' moments... Introducing Immanuel's Chaplain Gayla Mathews.

24.01.2022 Immanuel’s current assemblies are like nothing you would have experienced. Firstly, they’re all virtual! But they still promote the core values and beliefs that make Immanuel the institution that has stood strong for 40 years. Here, College Captains Hayden and Adrienne talk about love and kindness. Please enjoy as they're both wise beyond their years - and there's a great video embed too! #HomeButNotAlone #WeAreImmanuel

23.01.2022 OLD SCHOLAR UPDATE | A familiar face on the Sunshine Coast, Brent Higgins (Class of 1993) is now a current parent and volunteer at ILC. After leaving ILC in 1993, Brent completed a dual refrigeration and air-conditioning apprenticeship, and spent time working at the ski fields both in Australia and abroad. Fast forward 20 years and he is now the business director and an auctioneer for Ray White Mooloolaba and Ray White Kawana. Brent is also a founding member of the Immanuel ...Old Scholars’ Community that was formed in 2019. We are incredibly grateful for the support Brent continues to give the College, both as a parent and an Old Scholar. 22.01.2022 Thanks for this gorgeous pic Breeannan Williams (2004). We think it's from 1998. Who else is in the ensemble? Breeannan now works for Lockheed Martin as a Strategic Mission Planner for the F35 fighter jets. She spent 8 years in the RAAF and now directly supports pilots with their mission planning. What an incredible career!

22.01.2022 ALANA RETURNS FOR AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS WEEK | Today, Year 10s got a sense of what it's like to reach the dizzying heights of fame when three time Olympic pole vaulter, dual Commonwealth Gold Medallist and Immanuel Old Scholar Alana Quade (nee Boyd) (2001), returned to the College to talk to them about the highlights and challenges she's encountered in her sporting and now business career. Alana was the College's keynote speaker opening ABW 2020, a nationally recognised progra...m that helps students develop confidence and an entrepreneurial attitude. In teams, students run virtual businesses where they make a range of important decisions and manage the results - financial, marketing, logistics. It's hands-on learning. They design real elements including a website and trade stand which they're judged on and each team is assigned a business mentor. It’s the perfect way to engage young minds and build confidence. Thank you, Alana, for your time and encouragement. #WeAreImmanuel #ILCOldScholars #ImmanuelLutheranCollege

21.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY | It feels like 2006 was only a few years ago, but it was 14 years ago! In 2006, the ILC community celebrated 25 years of Fruehlingsfest. Students were given the opportunity to work in partnership with the Marketing Team at the Sunshine Plaza to coordinate the annual Fashion Parade which by all accounts was a big success with three shows on the day. It even got a write up in the local newspaper! 2006 saw Moreton take out the Athletics Carnival in both the Mid...dle and Secondary Schools, while Bribie won both titles at the Swimming Carnival. Music students were lucky enough to tour Canada, Drama students performed Romeo and Juliet, the first P-12 Outdoor Spectacular was held and the theme was ‘We’re all in this together (a saying we’ve heard a lot in 2020!) and teenagers were wrapping their heads around MySpace! Don’t forget to tag any familiar faces you see in these photos. If there is a year you’d like to see some photos from, please comment below and we will see what we can find! Happy Friday #ILCOldScholars #WeAreImmanuel #ImmanuelLutheranCollege #BuildingCommunity

He leads the bank’s economic and market research efforts, with a focus on Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Richard kindly allowed us to interview him for this year’s edition of Immanuel Features, and gave us his views on the economic impacts of COVID-19 and what this may look like into the future. Richard was in just the second cohort of Year 12s to graduate from... ILC. He now lives in Sydney with his wife and their two daughters. 18.01.2022 OLD SCHOLAR NEWS | Thank you to past parent Shelley Williams and Breeannan Williams (2004) for gifting Breeannan's 1/4 and 1/2 violins to the College for a new generation of musicians to enjoy. Shelley had the 1/4 violin reconditioned and the 1/2 violin repaired. Shelley presented both to Head of Co-curricular Music Emily Bonar. Breeannan played the violin throughout school then joined the RAAF and took up the drums; she's one versatile musician. #WeAreImmanuel #ILCOldScholars #BuildingCommunity

17.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY | We’re disappointed that Fruehlingsfest has been cancelled this year, but what a great opportunity to take a trip down memory lane and look back at how this event has evolved over the years! If you recognise some faces, don’t forget to tag them. Today’s flashback is from the 1980’s where ice-cream spiders were 30 cents, the annual Fun Run was part of the celebrations, camel rides were a thing and you could take a tractor ride for 50 cents! It’s great to see... that some things haven’t changed including Dunk the Teacher, ILC’s Music ensembles performed for the crowds, parents volunteered to help out and the jam stall was around back then too! We hope you enjoy these photos as much as we did #WeAreImmanuel #ILCOldScholars #BuildingCommunity #ILCFruehlingsfest

10.01.2022 OLD SCHOLAR UPDATE | It’s so great to hear a familiar voice back on the Sunshine Coast airwaves with Liam Renton (Class of 1993) returning to Mix FM and Sea FM! Liam is the State Manager of the Australian Traffic Network and oversees radio traffic reports for every station across Queensland. 08.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY | Why is this day special to Australians? 11.00am on 11 November 1918 marks the moment the guns fell silent on the Western Front after more than four years of continuous warfare; the first modern conflict that mobilised over 70 million people and left between 9 and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one third of them with no known grave. Throughout the First World War more than 330,000 Australians (soldiers, nurses) served overseas, and more than 60,000 of th...em died. The social effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the post war decades and rarely will you find a township in Australia that didn’t suffer a loss. After the end of the Second World War, Australians were urged to remember those who died or suffered for Australia’s cause in all wars and armed conflicts. I recall reading a story of an Australian photographer who served alongside our Australian soldiers throughout the First World War and who brought home the final words of one of our young soldiers... "will Australia remember me? This evokes a sombre image and for me, a resolute need to pause and remember such Australians, their families and communities. This Remembrance Day, all Australians are asked to ‘Remember to Remember’. The First World War was a profound historical event with significant Australian contribution, courage and loss. With this in the forefront of our minds, pausing for one minute of silence on the 11th hour on the 11th/11th is a time for reflection and a mark of respect. 07.01.2022 OLD SCHOLAR UPDATE | When you talk to or read about sisters Jaine (Class of 2004) and Ashleigh (Class of 2006) Morris, you can’t help but be inspired to want to make a difference. Ashleigh and Jaine from Coreo, were the first to establish a circular economy pilot project in Australia. They worked with 45 businesses on Ocean Street to see how they could reduce their dependence on finite resources and unlock unthought of economic opportunities. Fast forward a couple of years an...d they are world leaders when it comes to sustainability. They are now working with Government Departments, national and international companies to solve challenges and develop projects using circular economy principles and business models. In the last week, Jaine and Ashleigh have both been recognised in the Top 100 Corporate Social Responsibility Influence Leaders at 4th and 13th spots respectively. Outstanding! 05.01.2022 Yesterday, exactly 27 years ago, our class drove to Mt Binga to bond and grow and get busy getting back to nature and the basics during our 30 odd days of ISO ‘Binga style’. That also means it is 27 years and two days since I started at Immanuel. I am chuffed to say some of these people remain my nearest and dearest and I am always stoked to run into any of my Binga comrades. Thanks for the reminder Narelle xx

04.01.2022 OLD SCHOLAR NEWS | A proud weekend for ILC with Old Scholar Sean Farrell (2015) making his debut for the Queensland Reds against the Melbourne Rebels. 03.01.2022 Tomorrow is ANZAC Day, a day of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice. As we can't come together as we normally would, brass tutor and former digger, Nelson Oakley, is seen here playing The Last Post. This rousing tune is traditionally played at dawn, followed by a minute's silence and the short bugle call, Reveille. However this year, the RSL is promoting Light up the Dawn at 6.00am; stand in your driveway, on your balcony or in your living room to remember ...all those who have served and sacrificed. Please share Nelson's The Last Post with your friends and relatives and together, we can light up the dawn. If you have a musician in the family, maybe they can play The Last Post for you. Lest We Forget. #WeAreImmanuel #HomeButNotAlone #BuildingCommunity

01.01.2022 OLD SCHOLAR UPDATE | We are always grateful when an ILC Old Scholar returns to the College to work with our current students to share their expertise and experience with them. That’s exactly what Peter English (Class of 1994) did earlier this year, offering after-school workshops for General English students in Years 11 and 12, keen to improve their creative writing skills or seek guidance with their assessment. Peter has had an exceptional career as a sports journalist, writ...ing for a number of domestic and international publications including ESPNCricinfo, where he went on tours to England and India with the Australian Test Cricket team, as well as travelling around Australia each summer to watch and report on matches. These days, Peter is a lecturer at USC teaching journalism, including online and investigative, and his research areas are sports journalism, sports media and high-performance sport. His children both go to Immanuel.
