07.01.2022 The much anticipated review of the 457 program has now been released by the Department of Immigration & Border. Contained in the report are 27 recommendations for changes. At this stage, there is no indication as to which of these will be implemented and when, but the Minister has stated that the government will report back in the coming weeks and months. Here's hoping some of these make it over the line! Some of the more interesting points are: Changes to the English profici...ency measurement system, to take the overall score into account as opposed to each component test score. Also the possibility of increasing the number of exempt countries for English purposes - South Africa is a top contender for this relaxation! A return to the "12 month with the same employer / 24 months working in the occupation" requirement for 457 visa holders to be eligible for permanent residence under the employer sposnored programs Dumping of the recently introduced and immensely unpopular Labour Market Testing requirement Temporary Resident Income threshold of $53,900 to undergo remain unchanged for 2 years, and the possibility of concessions for regional employers, and others who can show justification. Overhaul of the training requirement to be aligned with the number of 457 employees as opposed to the entire workforce. A increase in the age limit fro 457 visa workers who are transitioning to permanent residence under the employer sponsored program - Review of fees, especially as they relate to dependent applicants and those applying for a renewal

If you're heading to Sydney, it's an area well worth checking out - our local supermarkets sell a range of SA goods to make sure you're never more than 5 minutes away from Oumas's Rusks or Mrs Balls Chutney!
