25.01.2022 Today is #NationalSiblingsDay! Brothers Youssef, Romanos, and Tansa Eid were born in a small village in the mountains of northern Lebanon. When they came to Australia, they only planned to stay for a few years and return to Lebanon with enough money to establish businesses. Instead, they settled permanently and can't imagine living anywhere else. Read the brothers’ full story and learn about other immigrant experiences via the link.https://fal.cn/3eBRQ

09.01.2022 Robyn Ellis, Visitor Engagement Officer, 19 Years at Immigration Museum After almost nineteen years working at the Immigration Museum, the reasons I love working here can be summed in two words people and stories: the people in the communities who proudly gather here to celebrate their collective journeys; the individual people who so generously share their stories and treasured objects with the museum; our visitors who listen, learn and share their own personal stories with us, and, of course, the people I work with, who are passionate, dedicated and so very excited to see you all again soon!

09.01.2022 To celebrate our 22nd Anniversary, we’re putting a spotlight on the stories and memories of some of our Immigration Museum staff to acknowledge their service and role in helping to shape the Immigration Museum we have today. Soo Taylor, Visitor Engagement Manager, 20 Years at Museums Victoria, 16 Years at Immigration Museum I started with the Customer Services team when Melbourne Museum opened in October 2000 first as a Customer Service Officer then as a Team Leader. I moved ...to the Customer Services Manager position at Immigration Museum in 2004. This position was renamed to Visitor Engagement in 2019. The significance of Immigration Museum is that through our changing exhibitions and programs people can find their own lives recognised in a place where all Victorians can gather and witness their individual experiences as well as our shared lives and unique history here alongside the First Peoples of South East Australia. My most magical moments in the long time I've worked here have been when newly arrived refugee or international students recognise themselves in the long list of people who have identified as newcomers. Suddenly they realise they too are part of a continuum of people who have journeyed to Victoria and their experience here at Immigration Museum helps them feel less of an outsider and able to see this place as home. Everyone wants to be seen, heard, acknowledged, and respected. This is what my team and I strive to offer every visitor through our welcome and our tours, talks and conversation.

09.01.2022 We're open and here for you this weekend with new measures being implemented including online pre-bookings to manage restricted visitor numbers, physical distancing and increased cleaning. We can’t wait to welcome you back!

04.01.2022 Ilona Fedrau, Visitor Engagement Officer, Immigration Museum I love to work and be part of an Immigration Museum mainly because I am an immigrant myself. I left Poland the country where I was born a long time ago in 1981. I went through a refugee camp in Austria and was granted a permanent visa based on economic grounds. Immigration Museum has given me the opportunity to have close contact with many cultures from all around the world. Generally speaking, I am a type of a "n...omad" as I always loved to travel and explore different territories from around the globe. I think every community has something special to present and share. As Australia is a very multicultural country, we have an amazing potential to share people’s experiences and cultural diversities. I can say I have really enjoyed our past Community Festivals, special traveling exhibitions and the vast variety of community gatherings. All those events cultivated our cultural differences and through events like this, we can successfully build bridges with all people sharing the same unique land. Through our outstanding Education Programs, we also have the ability to pass the knowledge to our next generation. During our presentations, we can all see and feel how greatly the young generation is interested and involved. And to underline all the above, it is an honour to all of us to walk around such a beautiful building which contains an abundance of history which we can widely share with our visitors.
