24.01.2022 Dear teachers, educators and parents, With restrictions easing, our programs will be going back in to schools and preschools. All being well, we expect: Port Macquarie Hastings Preschools will be experiencing the Waste and Sustainability Education Program from Week 9 Term 2, and throughout Term 3. ... Delivery in schools in Dubbo and Mid-Western Regional Councils as well as Narromine Shire Council will occur through Terms 3 and 4. Our new schools’ module ‘Towards Zero Waste’ is currently in development, and will launch during Week 6 Term 3. Delivery in Port Macquarie-Hastings schools will then continue in the latter part of Term 3 and into Term 4. In coming weeks, schools (and PMHC preschools) in the above council areas will be contacted to confirm or reconfirm your 2020 booking. We thank you for your patience in what has been an unpredictable time for many. We have spent lots of time in nature and created a verge garden during this unexpected break. Can you share any sustainability-at-home endeavours that have happened at your place? Let’s celebrate our achievements.

21.01.2022 Today Impact Environmental worked with Costa Georgiadis and school students at the Hastings Sustainability Showcase. What wonderful ideas and initiatives we have in the region. Costa and I were truly impressed by the enthusiasm of students to enact change for a sustainable community. More workshops and fun things for kids to do tomorrow. Come on down if you’re in the area and be inspired too.

19.01.2022 With the school year drawing to a close, we're taking some time to thank our educators for all their hard work! Here's Natalie Bowen from Impact Environmental E...ducation teaching some of the kids at Orana Heights Public School about which bins to put their rubbish in. Speaking of waste, our waste collection remains the same throughout the Christmas period, so even if your bin in scheduled to be collected on Christmas Day (a Friday this year), our drivers will still be out collecting. We ask that you please make sure your bin is out the night before, so that our drivers can get to them nice and early to get home to their own families on Christmas Day.

17.01.2022 As our preschools and schools programs draw to a close for 2020, we would especially like to thank all preschools and schools staff who navigated a tricky year and kept the bigger picture in sight working with us to reschedule where necessary. A great effort on behalf of the emerging generation and the challenges they face. Have a great summer from all at Impact Environmental Education.

16.01.2022 Like many businesses, we have had to halt our programs in recent weeks. We are looking at the opportunities amongst the unusual predicament we all find ourselves in. Permaculture is a great way to reconnect to our environment and reduce our impact on the environment. We just wanted to share this great resource written by David Holmgren, Permaculture guru, for those looking to take on a project at home seeing as though many of us are spending a lot of time at home and with our children. What a great time to start a project to live more sustainably! The book is available in an online ‘pay what you can’ version, making it accessible to all, including your family. Check it out: https://online.retrosuburbia.com/

16.01.2022 A great kick start to Term 2 with students in Narromine Shire Council learning about how human activity has adversely affected our environment and workshopping ways we can all help to reduce our impact. Pictured here are Stage 2 students creating a mini world to get us thinking about all the ways we rely on our environment. Thanks for your great ideas, honesty and passion to make a difference St Augustine’s Narromine.

13.01.2022 Packaging madness? Came across this in the supermarket. Who can tell the difference between the world’s first miniature apple and a small apple!?

10.01.2022 Our new module 'Towards Zero Waste' has launched in recent weeks in Port Macquarie-Hastings Council schools. What's it all about? This new module shines a spotlight on our current waste practices, encouraging students to think about an abundant future with zero waste. Students will explore case studies of industries that make a business from saving waste from landfill and be challenged to analyse what waste is and how we can design a life without it. For older students, this ...will include a deeper dive into circular economy principles. What do the teachers think so far? 'It was a new concept for the kids and it was delivered in an age appropriate engaging manner.' 'Multiliteracies, place-based learning and good engagement.' 'I liked how the presentation dove in deep to clothing and material side of waste rather then just recycling rubbish.' 'Engaging videos to explain content and a fun role play activity.' 'It was engaging and hands on. The message was easily understood.' Who is getting this education? In 2020, Impact Environmental Education is open to all schools in Port Macquarie-Hastings, Dubbo Regional, Mid-Western Regional and Narromine Shire Councils.

09.01.2022 Such an inspiring experience being at the national Australian Association of Environmental Education conference (AAEE) on the Gold Coast. Today we ran a workshop on ‘Teaching kids to care about climate change’. So much to share from awesome speakers who understand the inconvenient realities facing our world. Here is an image and a quote for the day....

08.01.2022 What difference does our environmental education program make? Sometimes education is invisible. Moments when a child forms an attitude about the world or attains a key piece of knowledge are many and varied. Our educators witness moments like these in our workshops because every workshop is an interactive space - a dialogue not a monologue - where questions and discussion are welcomed and encouraged. So how do we measure what we do?...Continue reading

08.01.2022 This year students in Port Macquarie-Hastings Council area learnt about how harmful litter can be to our wildlife. This video shows that even tiny pieces of waste are problematic. This beautiful bowerbird was one of the lucky ones. When was the last time you picked up a piece of litter? What an easy way to show we care.
