24.01.2022 Before lockdown I was lucky enough to be asked by Impavidicor Cane Corso to consult on the rearing and development of their first litter in order to get the be...st out of these pups. By 5 weeks of age they were already exposed to things your average puppies are not. Including 3 adult dogs of different breeds, a nifty obstacle course with sensory stimulation in mind, some thoughtful physical handling techniques, and toilet training. This kind of preparation really puts the pups ahead of the curve ensuring they have a much greater chance at a confident, problem free disposition as adults.

22.01.2022 Obstacle course fun with Daniel Mannix at Victorian Dog Training Academy. Were introducing our puppies to new objects, surroundings and environments. This sensory stimulation helps the puppies go home to their owners with confidence and sound temperaments making the transition easier on both puppy and family. They have taken each new obstacle and challenge in their stride, it is incredible to watch their progressions, milestones and little personalities blossom

15.01.2022 This is a repost, but it seems there are those out there in the community at the moment that really need to hear it. Dog training is not a product, it is a serv...ice, a service where you the client undertakes education and hopefully improves THEIR skills to better handle their dog. If you aren't a good dog handler you must try and get better, that's the long and the short of it. Having one session will not turn a family of terrible dog handlers into competent ones. I just wanted to share something that I observe quite a lot with clients in the hope it may inspire you to get better results. I don't measure my success by whether I perceive a certain amount of improvement in the dog. My standards are high so if I did I'd be permanently depressed. When I take on a client there is still only one party responsible for the dogs behaviour, the owner/s. The level of results achieved varies greatly, I wish it didn't but there's little I can do about it. I do work on finding different ways to get my message across to different human personality types and I am improving with this all the time. But unfortunately you either take action or you don't, its that simple. There are people who take my information and coaching and do all of it, they practice a lot and they understand their dog is learning something in every interaction they have. Training opportunities never end, you are never off the clock, this is the responsibility of owning a dog. There are those that do around half of what I recommend and are still pretty happy, occasionally getting stressed out by a slip up here and there. There are people who have dogs that present with very mild issues that can't seem to get it right despite coaching, I drive away feeling horrible and worrying about them, but I have to let it go. There are those that have some really high end issues that make complete turnarounds that even I am surprised by, they make me feel fantastic. How does this happen? Nothing worthwhile comes without putting in the time. In any aspect of life. Relationships, the gym, sport, learning an instrument, making money, the list goes on. If you prioritise your dog enough to spend money training, it's crazy not to prioritise the dog enough to spend the time it takes to improve. Prioritise your dog and you will be pleasantly surprised. Don't know where to start? Contact a balanced trainer who can help you.

04.01.2022 Happy New Year all, I wanted to talk today about being realistic. Humans, we let our imaginations get the better of us, we bite off more than we can chew, we d...ream, we act impulsively and then despair when it doesn't work out. When you are considering getting a dog, you need to have an honest conversation with yourself. Questions should include, how much spare time do I have? What are my physical capabilities? How much do I know about dog training and development (honestly). Do I need a consultant to help me select an appropriate dog? Some of the situations I have seen people put themselves in with the dog or dogs they have chosen to bring into their lives are downright ludicrous. This is a broad subject but some shortcuts on this matter include but are not limited to... *If you are not competent dealing with behaviour issues, don't get a dog that weighs more than you. People can be sold on the idea communication and modern training techniques mean you should be able to control an immense dog regardless of size, 9 times out of 10 its not true, Physical manipulation is unavoidable when rearing a dog. *If you are a novice don't get two pups from the same litter, there is a reason why over centuries we have developed protocol for separating puppies from the mother and sending them off to their homes at a certain age. It aids the domestication process, interfering with this process most often has significant effects on the learning and development of dogs, this is a very well documented and studied phenomenon. *If you have a dog with behavioral issues, don't add another dog to your household. Its hard enough to get things right, there's no need to make it harder.
