19.01.2022 We brought in the $20,000 Building Bonus to help WA families build new homes and make sure that WA had a good pipeline of construction jobs... ...and so many of... you took us up on it that weve just had to put up another $30 million into the program. To everyone thats creating work for our local construction industry and helping to support WA jobs: great work!

19.01.2022 This morning we unveiled our $110.9 million Kimberley Recovery Plan. This Plan will help drive economic and social recovery, and create a pipeline of local jobs.... Its all part of our $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan which is delivering an unprecedented investment in local infrastructure, schools, TAFE and community facilities. This Kimberley Recovery Plan is focused on getting locals back to work. It includes significant investment in the construction, manufacturing, tourism and hospitality, renewable energy, education and training, and agriculture sectors. It will deliver a pipeline of short and long term jobs supporting and strengthening our existing industries, as well as laying the foundation for jobs of the future. This includes a focus on renewable energy and new technologies, to create sustainable jobs. Strengthening Western Australias health and community services is a vital component of the WA Recovery Plan. Our plan for the Kimberley includes: - $20 million for the construction of a 70 bed Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation facility in Kununurra, providing temporary accommodation for Aboriginal people visiting Kununurra. - $18.8 million towards operating costs at regional renal hostels including a new service in Broome and services in Fitzroy Crossing, Derby and Kununurra. - $16 million for significant upgrades to TAFE infrastructure in Broome and Kununurra. - $3 million to construct the Broome Town Beach jetty allowing pedestrian, fishing and small boat access and enabling community members and tourists to access the Roebuck Bay foreshore. - $9.77 million for Aboriginal regional suicide prevention plans in each region of WA prioritising Aboriginal-led and locally endorsed initiatives that accommodate a culturally informed social and emotional wellbeing approach to suicide prevention. - $3.2 million for a water playground at the Kununurra Leisure Centre. - $3 million to rebuild the early childhood education centre at Wyndham District High School. - $1.85 million for upgrades to alcohol and other drug facilities in regional WA, including in Wyndham, Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing. - $7.98 million towards the planning and development of the Broome Health and Wellbeing Campus, a Nyamba Buru Yawuru project. - $5.21 million to invest in renewable energy projects across Derby, including installing solar PV systems on council buildings, replacing street lights with energy efficient LEDs, and a large-scale solar panel and battery at Derby Health Campus. - Installing Battery Energy Storage Systems to allow more customers to install rooftop solar systems and reduce their power bills, including $10.3 million for Broome and $1.7 million for Yungngora. The Kimberley region will also benefit from a range of State-wide programs included in the WA Recovery Plan. I thank each and every member of the Kimberley community for their efforts and sacrifices during the pandemic. We must remain vigilant, but our work to reduce the spread of COVID-19 means we are in a strong position to continue the process of recovery. 17.01.2022 The restrictions we have had to put in place during this crisis have been significant and disruptive, and the limitations on seeing family and friends have been... particularly difficult for many. But the overwhelming majority of Western Australians have done the right thing, and it has paid off so far. Our State has seen remarkable results in the fight against COVID-19 - and while that fight will continue for some time yet, those results mean we can now cautiously adjust some of the most extreme of those restrictions. As of tomorrow, 27 April, based on expert health advice, the two person limit on non-work indoor and outdoor gatherings will be adjusted, with the limit rising to 10 people. Additionally, the list of acceptable activities to do away from home has been expanded slightly. Everyone should continue to practise appropriate social distancing and stay home except for: Shopping for what you need, such as food or other necessary supplies Medical or health care needs, including compassionate requirements Exercise, including outdoor personal training without shared equipment Training or University study, where remote learning is unavailable Childcare or school Work Non-contact recreational activities such as private picnics in the park, fishing, boating, hiking and camping all in compliance with travel restrictions and the new 10-person rule Home opens and display village openings, with appropriate record keeping and hygiene practices in place, and in compliance with the 10-person rule A maximum of 10 people will be allowed at weddings (an increase from the five person limit), funerals, outdoor personal training (no shared equipment), home opens and display village inspections as part of these changes. The new 10-person rule aligns Western Australia with South Australia. The two-person rule was adopted in WA going further than what was recommended at the time in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19. All other restrictions will remain in place for now, and all public playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym equipment to remain closed. These decisions are based on the best medical advice in the country and as outlined by National Cabinet restrictions could be in place for six months, but subject to regular review. Thank you again for doing such a great job so far. Although these changes are small, I hope they will help many Western Australians get through this difficult period.

16.01.2022 Margaret River is set for its first five-star hotel, demonstrating a strong future for WA tourism. The Westin Margaret River Resort & Spa announced this morning... will be located on the southern headland of Gnarabup Beach, including 120 guest rooms, on-site dining venues, and meeting and event space. Marriott International is the worlds largest hospitality company, and its commitment to WA tourism despite the current environment demonstrates important, long-term confidence in the State. The hotel is being designed by WA architect Christou Design Group, with WA companies Saracen Properties and Security Capital Australia carrying out the joint development of the project. It will feature views over the Indian Ocean, access to the Cape to Cape and other local attractions, and its on-site dining options will support local producers by sourcing local produce from around the region. It will create about 300 jobs during construction and approximately 100 ongoing jobs once open in 2023. This is a vote of confidence for Margaret River and an extremely positive sign for WA tourism.

11.01.2022 ABORIGINAL CULTURAL CENTRE GAINS SUPPORT WA Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan says the State Government is looking seriously at plans for an Abor...iginal cultural centre in Albany. A proposal for such a facility was made last year by Southern Aboriginal Corporation, but the organisation has failed to secure government support. Ms MacTiernan says the State Government is looking to Albany's bicentenary in 20-26 for such a project to be realised. "With the bicentenary coming up, there's a really great opportunity for us to totally celebrate the Menang culture. We are certainly working very hard to see if we can develop a single unified vision for what a cultural facility would look like," she said. 10.01.2022 We just broke ground on the new job-creating ONE Subiaco project. The former Pavilion Markets site will be transformed by Blackburne Property Group - breathing ...new life into Subiaco. Its set to create up to 1,600 jobs during construction and hundreds more once complete. With construction now underway, works are expected to be complete in late 2022. Weve worked hard to stimulate the housing and property sector and these initiatives have positive flow on effects into construction, trades and local retail. In fact, 80 per cent of the apartments have already sold with eligible purchasers benefiting from our stamp duty relief measures announced last year. This major development is going to have a positive impact on Subiaco and the surrounding community for decades to come. Its projects like ONE Subiaco that will deliver a boost in activity and support WA jobs.

08.01.2022 At the 2017 State Election, we committed to putting patients first by freeing up hospital beds through medihotels, and today Im pleased to say were another st...ep closer to delivering this pledge. A new 80-bed medihotel is coming to Murdoch as part of the new $200 million Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, ensuring more Western Australians can access care closer to home. The facility will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is expected to divert up to 4,500 patients each year from busy public hospitals. Through the WA Recovery Plan, our Government is delivering $55.5 million over the next four years to support the operational costs of the medihotel. This will deliver important medical and nursing support for patients who have been discharged from hospital but are not yet ready to return home. Murdoch Medihotel is a major development for the WA health system, and will benefit the thousands of Western Australians accessing medical care each year.

06.01.2022 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO AVOID BURNOUT Would you give up five hours of your free time each month to drive an ambulance or help maintain life-saving equipment? S...t John Ambulance says it needs more volunteers in the Wheatbelt regions 63 ambulance depots. Regional Manager Craig Spencer says finding enough volunteers to evenly spread the workload is an ongoing challenge. "One thing Im worried about is burnout," he said. "The nature of many of the volunteers is theyre so passionate about serving their community that theyll often sacrifice a lot in their own life. "So I think the way to make the volunteering sustainable is to make sure weve got enough people so that we dont unduly burden those few." The Kellerberrin sub centre has just eight active volunteers - but Community Paramedic Simon Menz says up to 20 people are needed to operate the service. He says people can help on the frontline as ambulance drivers, or work behind the scenes to maintain vehicles and equipment. "Country Western Australia relies really, really heavily on volunteers to be able to operate an ambulance service," he said. "And just because youre volunteering doesnt mean you have to volunteer all your time - well appreciate anybody that can give any amount of time to help out." : Simon Menz

03.01.2022 $7 MILLION TO REPLACE STOCK ROAD BRIDGE IN HAMILTON HILL As part of the WA Recovery Plan we have announced $100 million to road projects across Western Austral...ia to help support local jobs and the economy out of COVID-19. $7 million has been allocated to replace the Stock Road pedestrian bridge in Hamilton Hill. The bridge was hit by a truck last year and due to structural damage had to be removed. I recently visited the site with Peter Tinley AM and Simone McGurk MLA and I know how keen the local community, in particular the Coolbellup Residents Association, has been to secure a replacement. When construction is complete there will once again be a pedestrian and cycling connection between Hamilton Hill and Coolbellup.
