17.01.2022 !!! Welcome to Imperial Vale Message Stick !!! Ideas change things and there is an idea waiting to be found just by you!! The last few weeks have been astonishingly hot. Living in a country environment the old blue singlet as I have been told is more popular than ever. It’s crazy to think that rural men and women have been outfitted in this unofficial uniform for decades. It’s even crazier to think and to know what others before us have done while wearing the Aussie staple. T...his week I have decided to write about the famous Jackie Howe and the amazing history behind this iconic picture of work wear for Australian men. For those who don’t know Jackie Howe is a legend of the shearing history of Australia for his record-breaking shearing skills. The tale goes that Jackie was wearing one of the classic singlets when he broke the world shearing record in 1812. Howe a simple man from Warwick Queensland immortalized the low-neck sleeveless flannel singlet introducing this essential article of clothing to shearing sheds over 50 years. Howe was born at Killarney near Warwick Queensland on July 26th 1861, dying July 21st1920 aged 58. On the 10th of October 1892 Howe shore 321 sheep in 7 hours and 40 minutes at Alice Downs Station near Blackall Old. This was faster than any other shearer before him. Only in the week before did he set the weekly record shearing 1437 sheep in 44 hours and 30 minutes. This record was beaten by Ted Reick in 1950 using machine shears. Howes record was achieved using hand shears, which have a likeness to large scissors. Many old shearers envious of Jackie said the sheep he clipped were only two-year-old and chosen for the record challenge. None the less this was an amazing feat with each sheep shorn at an average of 1 every 1 minute and 30 seconds. At Barcaldine Downs, he used machine shears for the first time, managing to shear 276 sheep in 8 hours on his first try. Stories are told how Jackie could sheer 100 sheep before dinner, rode a push bike 90 miles home before tea, tossed a packet of lollies into the wood pile for the kids, go in kiss his wife all with his swag still on his back. As of October 2015, his record is still unbeaten after 123 years. Jackie was active member within the union and shearing strikes of 1891 and 1894 making better conditions, pay and accommodation for shearers. In his retirement Jackie owned a pub, the Barcoo Hotel and Universal Hotel in Blackall Old. Jackie Howe’s father Jack was also a shearer and clown with La Rosier Circus. He was the first clown to travel the Australian Colonies also becoming the town crier of Warwick. Compete against your own potential and be the best you can be. You were born to win!!! See more

17.01.2022 !!! Welcome to Imperial Vale Message Stick !!! Imperial Vale Bar and Bistro invites you to: A FREE STAR GAZING WORKSHOP WITH DR. DAVID KOPELKE Astronomer and Environmental Scientist SATURDAY 12THDECEMBER 2020... 6PM 7PM BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL CONTACT 0455 952 579 TO MAKE YOUR BOOKING Participants are welcome to join David at the Bar and Bistro for Dinner after the workshop. The gathering above is to help us all find an amazing astral experience happening on December 21stat 9:02pm. In the year 1623AD the plants Mars, Venus and Jupiter with its 87 moons were seen close to earth and in total alignment. Joannes Kepler in 1606AD predicted this phenomenon would happen. Now 800 years later we will have the opportunity to see this amazing event. Also, it is incredible that all will also be in alignment with Uluru which for my Indigenous Australians holds amazing cultural beliefs. All who attend this event will be required to bring in a Smartphone, iPad or tablet. There is a free app available and a more detailed one at $15.99. If you own a good set of binoculars or ones that are x10 in magnification these are both excellent in star gazing and are recommended to be brought along. Notebooks and pens will be provide for anyone wanting to take notes. Come marvel at the stars and learn a thing or two about the upcoming astral event, we hope to see you there! See more

11.01.2022 !!! Welcome to Imperial Vale Message Stick !!! Most people don't realize what they have until they've lost it. Many of us never make an appointment with ourselves, just to give our minds time to think slowly rather than in a hurry.... Today's fast lifestyle tells us that we should take the time to pursue extra projects to succeed in our family life and career endeavors. The last few weeks in rural life changes have been forced upon us all. We all think why do the roads have to be repaired causing delays to our daily routine. Commuting from a rural lifestyle to town used to be an hour away. Now from my farm gate to work can take up to 3 hours, with much whingeing on my behalf. Our pathway in life can become a challenge or a joy. This weeks journey took 3 1/2 hours and I realized that sitting at road works gave me time to myself. Time to think and reflect. Time to look at our amazing country lifestyle. Time to meet and chat with roadside workers. Time to meet many who are escaping, travelling north to start new lives in sunny Queensland. All of us standing outside our transport enjoying each others company, helping each other with laughter on the trip experience. All are given an opportunity to have time to think about how lucky we are living in a rural environment. We a chance to have time to slow down and truly think without neighborhood disruptions and disputes. If we take time out for ourselves to think we can change how we see and react to others. Covid 19 may be the fire breathing dragon in our lives but it is making us all be more compassionate towards our fellow man. If you want to be happy, stay happy as being happy has a positive effect on others! I would like to take this opportunity to send my love and best wishes to friends, relatives and patrons who in the last few weeks have lost loved ones to Covid 19 in our southern states and over seas. We all in Queensland have friends and relatives in lock down areas. May you stay safe. "Whenever I have a problem I can look back to a low point in my life and say "Good Lord, I came through that okay!" What I am confronted with now is far less than that and so I'll get through this also." - Unknown !!! REMINDER !!! The Imperial Bar and Bistro is open: Friday 6 pm - 8 pm meals Bar open 6 pm - 10 pm Saturday 10 am - 2 pm 6 pm - 8 pm meals Bar open 6 pm - 10 pm Sunday 10 am - 2 pm Bookings preferred for groups of 10 or more, walk ins are more than welcome! 07.01.2022 !!! Welcome to Imperial Vale Message Stick !!! A good goal is like a strenuous exercise it makes you stretch. - Mary Kay Ash A few weeks absent from the page makes time for reflection. Reflection on many things but mostly on my dreams. What they need to be, what makes a dream, what is the obtainability, what makes them successful and what drives me to not only pursue but to accomplish. The most important word that came to me during such contemplation was freedom. After 55... long years in the workforce and a very successful business and career; encompassing engineering and science. I decided to semi retire, giving me the freedom to enjoy the dream. Over the years I have walked a long pathway to find freedom. The kind of freedom that binds you only to yourself leaving one without the control and influence of others. We all know there are many of us in this crazy world who yearn for the freedom dream. Dreams are achieved when we are motivated, turning what may seem out of reach into reality. The Covid crisis has heightened the importance of dream reflection and goal setting. Now more than ever we must strive to do more, work harder and aim higher. With diminishing opportunities, we must take chances where they lay and make the most out of every situation. A famous roman author (Seneca) wrote the following words: Our plans miscarry because they have no aim. When a man does not know to what harbor he is making for, no wind will never be the right one. We should memorize these words and think of this saying when planning not only our goals but our future. All our plans must be motivated by a dream. If your dream like mine concerns freedom than make up your mind to pursue it here and now; the choice is always yours. With freedom as a high priority my clinical work has shifted to part time. The freedom this seemingly small choice has given me is astronomical. Opening up time and my mind to new opportunities, experiences, people and allowing for a greater appreciation of the rural lifestyle and community. Liberty is being free from the things we don’t like in order to be slaves to the things we do like. - Ernest Benn See more

06.01.2022 !!! Welcome to Imperial Vale Message Stick !!! In the old days man lived to be more than one hundred. They preserved the mind and their strength to the end, and were capable of carrying out all their duties. Today, at the age of fifty, some are already decrepit. Is man degenerating, or has he simply forgotten the laws of nature? Quotation from the Yellow Emperor This week I have taken inspiration from an exert I read in a waiting room about rules we should follow in life to... keep healthy mind and body young. 1. Recharge your Willpower We must maintain self-control and recharge. As research shows, willpower is akin to a battery and must be kept in working order, requiring routine recharges. 2. Stick to a Schedule Following a strict daily regimen will calm the mind and it is recommended to end the day by writing in a journal. 3. Develop your Sense of Purpose Live for something larger than yourself. Besides self-gratification, working towards a goal, dream or simply helping others is extremely beneficial to your health. Studies show having a dedicated cause helps your immunity and reduces your risk of Alzheimer’s. 4. Service to Others Give yourself to worthy causes, it helps you put our own worries into perspective and the reward is an amazing anti-inflammatory hormone which is consequentially produced within the body. 5. Awaken the Self Talk Get rid of disagreeable thoughts from your mind and replace them with positives. The so-called purposeful repressors people who consciously dial down negative mind chatter benefit from a kind of psychological armour and you can too. The trouble with gloom is that it feeds upon itself. Today, the author at aged 94 is still a wife, business women, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She manages huge rural estates and guides many nations. She was thrown into a career she never thought would be her calling. Training as a Motor Mechanic during WWII and serving all with grace. She has never known to lose her temper or shrink her responsibilities. The five steps enable her to work a 40-hour week, remain reliable in carrying out her duties all at the age of 94. Queen Elizabeth II is to be admired for all she has achieved. I hope these amazing words and aspiration story inspire all who read. If used correctly the five steps can be mastered to make us younger and happier in life; bringing fruitful vitality. See more

03.01.2022 !!! Imperial Vale Message Stick !!! Every now and then go away and have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgement will be positive. Constantly remaining at work can cause you to lose power over your judgments.... This year has been for many within rural communities a chance to reflect on how important time out is. We must take breaks from the intensity of farming and farm life. A time out every now and again can be beneficial all. More than ever we are now learning that time out can lead to new friendships and experiences. Together we came to the realisation that no matter how bad things may seem with the help of others there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. When people are willing to help us walk the pathway we become stronger together. All of us who attend have realised we have to work with one another as team; as they say team work makes the dream work. Great dreams are often so far away from your reach that you can become discouraged. Each small goal you achieve gives you confidence to try the next one. Having time outs create a moment where we have an open mind, where we can find new opportunities and look within ourselves. I hope that you can reflect on this message, look within yourself and reach for the stars. It's okay to have time outs. It's okay to reflect. It's okay to take a moment for you.
