16.01.2022 Currently reading Kira’s Sutherland’s research; Why women are different. It compares males and females in terms of weight loss, hormones and energy levels. Great food for thought, one of the articles that got my attention was about female obesity. It’s a topic that comes up a lot with my clients; how to lose weight, and calories per day. I keep saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and dinners should be very light and small portions. Australians gener...ally have large, heavier meals for dinner, contributing to an overweight population. Kira’s study compares high calorie intake at breakfast vs dinner, and how our metabolism responds for weight loss. Overweight women were randomised into 2 weight loss groups consuming about 1400 calories per day. Over 12 weeks, group 1 consumed more calories in the morning (700 kcal BF, 500 kcal lunch and 200 kcal dinner) and group 2 consumed more in the evening (200 kcal BF, 500 kcal lunch and 700 kcal dinner). Although both groups saw benefits, group 1 (higher morning intake) achieved greater weight loss and waist circumference reduction. Overall, high-calorie breakfast with reduced intake at dinner could be a good method to try for weight loss and is a useful alternative for the management of obesity and metabolic syndrome. See more
