21.01.2022 These ads from the 60’s and 70’s are classics! Advertising tanning as beautiful, healthy, attractive it’s no wonder I get so many patients in this age group presenting with Skin Cancer. It’s really not their fault as sunscreen was hardly a thing and with campaign’s like these around encouraging tanning . Thank goodness we all know better now, but unfortunately the damage is done. However if we continually get annual Skin Cancer Checks and are educated on what to look for our survival rate from Skin Cancer will be high . Look after your skin and it’ll look after you!

Clinicians and their patients now have access to a series o...f online calculators which will assist in prevention, early detection and optimum treatment of melanoma, ultimately saving lives. Developed by researchers at Melanoma Institute Australia and based on published risk prediction models, the three web-based calculators are housed on a new Melanoma Risk website launched today. They predict a person’s risk of developing their first melanoma; their risk of developing a second or subsequent primary melanoma; and their risk of a primary melanoma having spread to nearby lymph nodes. Safer Care Victoria was alerted in May after Quality Cancer Care closed its doors and referred more than 30 patients to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Bendigo most were part way through a course of radiation treatment. They can have a variety in appearance but are often flat to slightly raised, scaly with a rough texture. They can range in colour from very dark brown to light tan. These lesions are NOT cancerous, but it’s always wise to come into the clinic for a check to identify all your lesions.
