25.01.2022 I'm still here in Gin Gin, folks. :-)

24.01.2022 For those geeks out there using the Assistive Technologies Upgrade to get Windows 10 on Windows 7 and 8 machines, you'd better be quick. Microsoft has decided to end this free upgrade as of 16 January 2018.

23.01.2022 Power is out from Mt Perry through to Gin Gin. Ergon faults (132296) reports it as a wide spread outage due to fallen power lines. Crews are in attendance and the next update will be available at 11:30am.

23.01.2022 For those who love their 7, this is good news: https://www.itnews.com.au//microsoft-adds-three-years-supp

22.01.2022 Sigh. Telstra outage at the Gin Gin exchange. Our phone is dead.

21.01.2022 These Cel-Fi things really do work. Last night the atmospherics were just right and I managed to get 4G in the house!

20.01.2022 A long time coming: https://www.telstra.com.au//Telstra-sets-new-strategy-to-i

19.01.2022 Today I have been rung twice by the ATO scammers robocaller, and once by "the technical department of Telstra about your internet connection..." The ATO scammer used the (02)62161111 number which is well known as a scam call (ATO don't generally ring anybody and certainly don't display their number when they do - https://www.ato.gov.au//On/Identity-security/Scam-alerts/). When I told the "telstra" guy he wasn't from Telstra he just sighed and hung up. He sounded very depressed...

17.01.2022 Got problems with mobile phone coverage in your house or office? Do you have to rush outside to take the phone call? Cel-Fi are the only LEGAL boosters in Australia. Give me a call (after you go outside to get good signal) and let's see if we can fix it. https://www.cel-fi.com.au/

16.01.2022 Doesn't bode well for the security contractors https://www.smh.com.au//federal-mps-computer-network-hacke

15.01.2022 Beware Big Brother. Or at least Medium Second Cousin or however this works. You can't do anything without someone watching. http://www.abc.net.au//google-admits-it-allows-ext/9938556

13.01.2022 There has been an exploit exposed in Google's Chrome web browser where the back button can be used to send you to somewhere other than your previous page... https://www.itnews.com.au//chrome-back-button-hijack-recor

13.01.2022 At Bundy today and I got a missed call from an international number - +240666505235 (somewhere in Equatorial Guinea, I think), so the bad guys have found us! Do NOT return missed calls from international numbers. Any number inside Australia will be prefixed with +61 or just be 10 digits long, so if you see a missed call from a number more than 10 digits and beginning with something other than +61 then it’s from OS. Don’t return the call. Likewise for numbers beginning with 1...90 or SMS from 19 numbers. Mostly they’re scams or money-making schemes of some sort. Don’t respond. https://exchange.telstra.com.au/unexpected-missed-call-rec/ http://www.amta.org.au//Beware.of.returning.unrecognised.m https://www.sbs.com.au//missed-call-australian-phones-floo

06.01.2022 Still using Windows XP? Microsoft just released an out of service patch for it to patch against Wannacry. https://www.theverge.com//microsoft-windows-xp-remote-desk

06.01.2022 Blimey... The iOS 12.2 update from Apple is 3.08 GB. If you're on a mobile data plan or satellite you might want to upgrade at your local library or at a friend's house.

05.01.2022 Windows 10 20H1 (next year's first major update) will get the long awaited ability to set windows update download speed by absolute value. Yes, you will be able to set WU downloads to xMbps, to stop it choking your internet connection to death... Previously it was a percentage of your network link, but as it measured this based on the physical connection of you device it was pretty useless if you have gigabit network cards. It only throttled down to 5%, or 50Mbps. So unless you have a 100/40 NBN connection you'd effectively never see it throttled (with a gigabit nic).
