25.01.2022 From our friends at MGSE...

24.01.2022 Instrumental Music teachers & Studio teachers - this one is for you!

21.01.2022 This weekend I flew in to beautiful Hobart to run a 'Music Together' workshop (Thanks AUSTA Tas) - based on my Strings Together book, but this time for multi-instrumentalists! A boutique crew - just like Hobart itself!

19.01.2022 AUSTA VIC Mini-Conference with amazing local and international presenters. July 20-21 @ Doncaster Secondary College, Melbourne.

17.01.2022 Stringies! I've done your planning for you! Strings Together is a teachers resource that has 20 aural activities for the string class or group lesson. Many activities can be adapted for the private lesson too. Suitable for multi level & multi instrumental groups with extension activities, teachers notes and points for discussion with students.... But don't just take my word for it. This is what one teacher had to say about the book: "This is a one-book wonder that is creative and easy to implement, covers a HUGE range of material in a clear and uncluttered way. Delivers imagination and creativity without losing accuracy. Amazing at any level and can easily spring board into more ideas for groups... 11 out of 10." You can order your copy here: www.inapiece.com.au

17.01.2022 Happy weekend everyone! Reminder of our LOCKDOWN (back-to-school) SPECIAL with Strings Together discounted to only $30 until the end of July. Online PD on the book and group teaching activities is happening on July 26, 3.00pm Melbourne time. Suitable for face to face and remote teaching. Tickets only $10. Bookings here: https://www.trybooking.com/BKMIE

17.01.2022 With many of us here in Melbourne getting ready to teach remotely once more, it's time to repost this really helpful link about the best Zoom settings for instrumental music lessons. Thank you #plgmusic https://plgmusic.com.au//best-zoom-meeting-settings-for-re

13.01.2022 So these came in today, just in time for the school year! Looking forward to seeing all of the 93-so-far enrolled in Teacher Professional Development Day at the Sydney String Centre this Sunday! It's free! RSVP at https://www.trybooking.com/ZRTZ

13.01.2022 Big shout out to the The Sydney String Centre for hosting an excellent PD yesterday. Three sessions and over 80 participants and lots and lots of ‘string’ chatter. Much good-will in a single room! #StringsTogether

13.01.2022 FOR INSTRUMENTAL AND STUDIO TEACHERS! INCLUSIVE TEACHING Instrumental and studio teachers are starting up for the year - and are overwhelmingly excited to do so face-to-face! But whether on line or otherwise, teaching will have its challenges. What do we need to do - or not do - when teaching a student who needs extra attention or has a disability? How can we approach our instrumental teaching environment to become more inclusive and positive for all parties?... Karen Kyriakou presents: Inclusive Teaching for Instrumental Teachers Monday 22 February ONLINE 7.00pm AEST Cost: $10 Bookings:https://www.trybooking.com/BORBE (Zoom link sent in confirmation email) More details and contact info at www.inapeice.com.au --------------------------------------- Music belongs to everyone and the benefits of learning to play an instrument apply to everyone too. This session is presented by Karen Kyriakou who has been teaching in Specialist Schools for 12 years. Learn some practical tips on how to make your instrumental lessons more accessible to diverse learners of all ages in both the instrumental classroom and private lessons. A Q&A session will follow this 60 minute session. Sometimes it is hard to know how to 'reach' a student or engage them properly, we seem to try everything we know! This session will help teachers understand different approaches when asking questions and offering instruction, and the reasons we need to be doing this in our lessons - for all students. Teachers can learn to feel confident setting realistic expectations about what can be achieved in both the short and long term for students, and take away ideas for adapting your studio and instrumental lessons to suit the learner - making the music lesson a more enjoyable space for everyone! --> Approaches to instruction & questioning --> Preparing for lessons - for the teacher! --> Understanding different behaviours --> Making lessons inclusive for all learners Karen Kyriakou has been teaching in Specialist schools for 12 years, working with students with a diverse range of needs, including running a successful music program at a school for Deaf Children (through Musica Viva). 10.01.2022 Was quite thrilled to read the review on my Strings Together book in the latest Stringendo. Thank you Hollis Taylor, and I'm even more happy to read you'll be using the book yourself!

08.01.2022 AUSTA VIC is running a PD focusing on the activities in my Strings Together book. It is often so much easier to see an activity and not just read it and visualise it. This will be your chance to see and do! Bookings are open and if you wish to, books will be available for purchase on the day. You don't need the book to participate in any of the activities!

07.01.2022 On May 25 in Hobart I'll be presenting a PD 'Music. Together!' Pre-PD warm-up will be a visit to Salamanca Markets. Cheese anyone?

07.01.2022 String teachers who run ensembles, string programs and group lessons might be interested in the activities in Strings Together, a resource book with 20 lesson plans - just in time for back to school. All aural-based, all flexible - for any instrument combination and mixed skill levels too. Composition activities, technical and rhythm activities, and skills for ensemble playing. Want to book a PD? ... + Motivate your string team + How to incorporate composition to your classes + Best practice approaches + Student-led activities You can be in touch here: www.inapiece.com.au

07.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who attended my Strings Together PD hosted by Austa VIC today. An amazing turnout of a fabulous group of string teachers doing wonderful things in schools! The St Paddy's day composition at the end was a totally highlight!!

07.01.2022 Next weekend, I'm taking Strings Together to always-lovely Tasmania - but this time, with a twist. A multi-instrumental workshop, not just for strings! SO... If you know of any instrumental teachers who might be interested in aural activities and creative activities for their music classes and groups, feel free to send them along. Details below: https://www.trybooking.com/499298 Thanks to AUSTA TAS for facilitating this! And a HUGE thanks to TYO for sending me to Tasmania in the first place to workshop their stringies to make a new work in Launceston the following day!

06.01.2022 L O C K D O W N S P E C I A L So it turns out that many of the activities in Strings Together are actually really well suited for group teaching in remote learning. All activities are completely flexible, so they can easily be adapted to suit your own class, group or ensemble setting: * Aural play-alongs and conductor-watching activities can be done with the students' microphones off. ... * Small group break-out activities can be done in the Zoom breakout/chat rooms or similar. * Students can work in break out rooms to invent/compose rhythms and riffs for composition activities. * Many activities can be developed alone (during class time - mics off) and then performed to the rest of the group. Until the end of July, Strings Together can be bought for $30.00 (usually $39.95) plus P&H. Order here" www.inapiece.com.au *** UPDATE: Thanks for the support everyone. The string world is amazing. But. Sadly due to our lockdown restrictions here in Melbourne, I am unable to post overseas at this time. There is no way of knowing how long it will be until planes fly out of Melbs again. Therefore, this offer can only be for those requiring postage in Australia at the moment.
