23.01.2022 Ever feel like something is just so hard it seems impossible? . Sometimes it's easy to get overwhelmed with a task. This could be something like a scary skill, homework or finishing your uni degree. You look at the end result and think to yourself "there is no way, in hell, I'm going to be able to do that" . But it can be as easy as breaking it down into steps. For coaches: that is basically our job. To break a skill down into small pieces and teach each piece before tea...ching the whole . As an example: you or your athlete looks at that back handspring on high beam and thinks "not a hope...". So set yourself a little success ladder, have some deadlines and tick off each step. 1. Back handspring on a line on floor 2. Back handspring on low beam with a scatter mat 3. Back handspring on low beam no mat 4. Back handspring on high beam with 3 crash mats underneath 5. Back handspring on high beam with a spot 6. Back handspring on high beam by yourself 7. Omg you just did that "impossible" task holy cow aren't you proud of yourself yay . This same principle can be applied to any task/skill/assignment/goal. Or an Olympic athlete like Simone Biles doesn't feel anxious before doing a routine at the Olympics? ... . These people we look up to and view as courageous still feel afraid sometimes. What makes them different is they choose to do these things even though they're afraid. And that, is true courage. . Fear is normal fear is natural but don't let it control you. Instead have the courage to do something despite the fear . You are capable of it. Sometimes it's harder than others but it is always a choice. Be the person you choose to be. 05.01.2022 Improve shoulder flexibility AND increase chin up (vertical pulling) strength using this unique method... . A combined eccentric chin up with a static hold at the bottom . Walk or jump up to a chin up position (underhand/reverse grip)... Slowly lower down to hanging for a period of 5 seconds Hold for 5-10 seconds at the bottom keeping the chest rounded (flex the thoracic spine) Repeat for 3-5 reps . This is a great way to finish an upper body pulling strength circuit to really get the most out of these muscles while also encouraging lengthening by using principles of eccentrics and static holds. . 03.01.2022 Row in and up with a theraband The opposite of press out and up, this is an amazing functional core anti-movement exercise that biases anti-flexion. Ever landing short out of any sort of back tumbling such as a back flip, back sault or back layout?... Ever done a disc injury? This exercise is perfect for you. Keep the core engaged, hips tucked under and pause each rep with the arms overhead for a good few seconds. Allow no deviation from an upright position.
