25.01.2022 Well this sounds great doesn’t it!

24.01.2022 Western Australia will join the Federal NDIS next year ! WA will move to the federally run National Disability Insurance Scheme, a step which will save the State Budget more than a billion dollars over the next decade. The decision, announced by Premier Mark McGowan this morning, will see the Federal government assume responsibility for the rollout from July next year.... Under the move, more than 25,000 people with disabilities will be granted access to individual packages, allowing them to control which care provider they sign up with. The NDIS will continue to roll out on a geographic basis and will be fully rolled out across the State by 2020. People already taking part in the WA NDIS will transfer to the nationally delivered scheme in a phased approach from April 2018. The transfer will conclude by December 2018. Premier Mark McGowan said the State Government had been ensuring the best outcome for West Australians with disability.. After careful deliberation, we have concluded that joining the national Scheme will provide the best foundation for Western Australians to benefit from the NDIS, now and into the future, he said. Western Australians with disability need, and will now have, certainty that their care and supports are provided for. This decision demonstrates my Government’s commitment to being part of a once in a generation change that can only be truly successful as a national endeavour. National Disability Services WA manager Julie Waylen said the decision was an important step in providing certainty for people with disabilities. The disability sector and people with disability in WA have waited a long time for the NDIS and today’s news clarifies the way forward, Ms Waylen said. However, we can’t ignore the significant implementation and transition challenges ahead. The NDIS will bring increased demand for services in more locations and disability services must be supported to build a knowledge base, build capacity and capability of providers, strengthen the regions and address potential market failure issues. We must also support organisations and the people with disability to transition from the WA scheme to one run by the Commonwealth.

23.01.2022 National Symposium on Inclusive Education - 13 November Sydney Where does Australia stand in the inclusive education space? Other countries around the world have led change to create fully inclusive education systems; backed by legislation, policy and change management protocol. This symposium will provide a rare opportunity to have these examples of implementation showcased. Highlighting the vision and commitment required for successful implementation, this event will provide Australian stakeholders in education insight into the necessary steps to move towards a fully inclusive system.

21.01.2022 ELIGIBILITY FOR NDIS We have been hearing from a few people that their young children with Down syndrome are being deemed ineligible for the NDIS. Down Syndrome... Australia and state DS organisations have been advocating on this issue. If your child is under 7 they should be getting automatic entry into NDIS, and if not, let Down Syndrome Australia know or make an official complaint to NDIA. Down syndrome is on list D https://www.ndis.gov.au/operational-guideline/access/list-d so there should be no question of a child under 7 being turned away.

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Anna and her mum, Bernadette, who have succeeded in getting a peer support grant to develop their Micro Enterprise Hub in Western Sydney! The Hub will be a physical space to provide collective support to entrepreneurs with disability in the area. Want to join in? Click here to RSVP - https://www.facebook.com/events/404115703340087/... Baking and taking care of dogs are two things that Anna loves to do. Anna brought these passions together and started baking her own hand-made doggie treats out of her home. We have partnered with Anna to help grow this into a niche dog treat enterprise. Increased interactions with people is important for Anna, so we’ve partnered with a local bakery, market stall vendors, online marketing agency and recruited a Personal Assistant for Anna to work alongside in her enterprise. To improve economic viability, we’ve recruited 3 local professionals to volunteer on Anna’s Enterprise Management Group. The group meet regularly with Anna to help her grow her business. Anna gets to go out into her community and participate by selling hand-made dog treats, and lets people know that she’s a business owner. Want to help Anna trial her recipe and give some feedback?
