25.01.2022 What a difference a year makes this time last year Independent Theatre was deep into the 2019 season, performing the sizzling renaissance drama Don Carlos at the Goodwood Theatre. Heres a reminder of the scheming, violence and intense drama of the Spanish Court of Aranjuez.

25.01.2022 You can hear the squeals of delight backstage as we prepare for tomorrow and our first show for 2020! Its been a long COVID road but were thrilled be performing Beecham for our theatre-starved friends and fans at the beautiful Ukaria Cultural Centre in the Adelaide hills. A witty script, polished readings and brilliant music definitely worth the wait!

24.01.2022 The two tickets to Bent are still up for grabs. Is this clue a giveaway? For those of you who recognise this actress in her only Independent Theatre performance to date, guessing this performance should be a cinch.

23.01.2022 The Playboy of the Western World enthralled and entertained audiences and critics alike with its fast-paced romantic dialogue, told through thick Irish accents, clever set design and terrific performances from the whole cast. Independent Theatre performed the dark Irish comedy at the Odeon Theatre back in 2013... it seems like yesterday!

23.01.2022 It seems IT has a big fan at The Adelaide Show Podcast - a rave review from Steve Davis! If you’re yet to see our gripping production of Bent this review comes with a spoiler alert - so to avoid giving the plot away, we’ll just let you know, Steve gave Bent full marks!

23.01.2022 Does clue #2 trigger any memories for the theatre buffs out there? Post your guess below to win two tickets to Bent this November or tag a regular theatre goer you think might recognise this production.

21.01.2022 David is deep in rehearsals for his lead role in our upcoming performance of Beecham. At the same time, we have sent him back to the workshop to design the set for our next production, Bent. Hes renowned for his amazing performances and brilliant set designs so we cant wait to see what he comes up with next!

21.01.2022 Correct! Congratulations to Lyn Wilson for digging around in the memory banks and correctly naming our mystery show. It was the dark satire Loot which graced the Theatre 62 stage as part of Independent Theatres 1989 season. Sam Adamson, James Mulligan, Allen Munn, Graham Nerlich and Jane Prior starred in this hilarious farce which was as much fun for the cast to perform as it was for those watching.

20.01.2022 Beecham has sold out! Our one-day-only play reading is set to be a big hit when our 2020 season gets underway on Sunday 27 September. But do not fear if you were too slow to book Beecham, our 2020 season continues on 13 November with our performance of the Martin Sherman play, Bent. You dont want to miss out on this one, tickets are on sale now: https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=585044

20.01.2022 We are still searching for a super sleuth amongst the IT fans with two tickets to Beecham still up for grabs! Can you guess what production this photo comes from? Weve revealed a bit more of the image to make our quiz a little easier.... Post your answer below.

18.01.2022 While taking a walk on Regent Street on a particularly warm day Thomas Beecham hailed a taxi only to put his coat on the backseat and ask the driver to follow me about. Its difficult to separate the truth from the myth when it comes to Beecham. Join us for a special play-reading at the UKARIA Cultural Centre and get a healthy dose of both. Tickets on sale now at https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=585052

17.01.2022 It’s opening night! All the hard work is about to pay off with our production of Bent about to wow the audience at Goodwood Theatre. Chookas to our awesome cast!

16.01.2022 Notorious for his sarcasm and razor-sharp wit, British conductor Thomas Beecham didnt pull punches when asked for his opinion on a university setting up a chair of musical critics. If there is to be a chair for critics, I think it had better be an electric chair, Beecham retorted. We love our critics and, in our view, Beecham couldnt be further off the mark ... but we do enjoy the way he said it!... You will be titillated by many other wicked Beecham barbs in our exclusive matinee reading at the Ukaria Cultural Centre on Sunday 27 September. Tickets are on sale now at www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=585052

13.01.2022 Sir Thomas Beechams great wit and larger-than-life personality will be in the spotlight at our staged reading on 27 September ... but we wouldnt have done true justice to one of the worlds greatest conductors without treating you to recordings of his music. And what better venue to bring his legacy to the fore than in the beautiful surrounds/acoustics of the Ukaria Cultural Centre concert hall.

11.01.2022 In very disappointing news, the new COVID restrictions means we have had to pause our performances of Bent. After a marvellous four nights and sold out audiences, we are so sad that many IT fans will miss seeing one of our most memorable shows. A big thank you to Goodwood Theatre and to our brilliant, hardworking and committed cast and crew, who did everything they could to try and keep the season running.

09.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS TO CHRIS BLEBY Everyone at Independent Theatre was thrilled with last week's announcement that Chris Bleby had been appointed a new Judge of the... Supreme Court. Chris joined the company in 1986 - our third year of operations - as a 16-year-old Pulteney Grammar School student, in our Festival production of A TALE OF TWO CITIES. He has since gone on to appear in numerous IT productions. Chris also met his wife, Meg, in our 1998 Festival production of CANDIDE, and supplied our Scout Finch (his and Meg's daughter, Emma), for our 2012 re-mount of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. The whole company is immensely proud of Chris, thanks him for his ongoing love and support of the company, and offers him every good wish for the future.

08.01.2022 CORRECT! Kudos to Nick Fagan Yes, it was the amazing Mrs Warrens Profession, the final play of the 2019 season. Eloise and Patrick were stars and who can forget the very talented Pam OGrady stepping in at late notice to play the titular Mrs Warren to rave reviews.

08.01.2022 Win a double pass to our staged reading of Beecham at the stunning Ukaria Cultural Centre. Can you recognise one of our favourite productions from the blacked-out picture below? Youll need to be a superfan to recognise this teacup or maybe the curtains will jolt your memory.... We will reveal more of the picture soon so check in with us later for more clues.

07.01.2022 It cant come fast enough! Our 2020 season will open on 27 September with a play reading filled with the colourful personality and razor-sharp wit of British conductor Sir Thomas Beecham. It seems Independent Theatre has a penchant for duets with a musical theme. Who could forget our previous productions of Old, Wicked Songs always a favourite.

05.01.2022 We were so disappointed that we werent able to perform Beecham earlier this month as planned but a huge thank you to the Ukaria Cultural Centre for allowing us to reschedule the play reading to September. We are thrilled to be on stage at such an amazing venue once more here are some pictures from last season as we performed the hilarious Lord Arthur Saviles Crime.

05.01.2022 Some people will do anything to put on a great show including hanging off the edge of a 40-storey skyscraper. It was the ideal place for one of our angels Leighton Vogt to practise his lines, while cleaning windows at the Realm Adelaide Apartments. Thanks Felipe and Robert from @SAWindowCleaning for your great snaps and to @Anna Vlach for the fantastic piece in the The Advertiser today! My Three Angels opens tonight at Goodwood Theatre and runs until 17 April.

01.01.2022 Tucked up in isolation has been a great time to wander down memory lane. Diving into our archives, we simply couldnt resist sharing these fantastic old shots. Independent Theatre won a TASA Cal Theatre Award for this acclaimed performance of The Cripple of Inishmaan, way back in 1999.

01.01.2022 One of our all-time favourite leading men Will Cox takes centre stage in the theatrical duet that opens Independent Theatres 2020 season. Many of you will remember his amazing performance in our recent productions of Don Carlos, The Matchmaker, Ross, Hamlet, Bracken Moor and Red Velvet.
