18.01.2022 This is a post from concerned residents near Cooper St Strathfield: The State government sees Burwood & surrounds as the perfect location for big housing development. Why? Because it will cost them nothing! They do not have to pay to provide any infrastructure, it is all there great public transport, commercial centres, hospitals, schools, libraries, green spaces. But it will cost us as the community as it puts more pressure on all these services. Areas of Burwood are bei...ng rezoned and the developers are moving in with their plans for large scale multi storey developments. Looking at the high rise around Burwood centre surely there must be an oversupply of apartments in the area! At this moment Burwood Council has development applications for 2 sites on Cooper St Strathfield. One is for a 229 person boarding house complex at 2a, 2 & 4 Cooper St including a heritage listed house: http://ecouncil.burwood.nsw.gov.au//ApplicationDetails/01/ The other at 18 Copper St is for a 6 storey apartment block: http://ecouncil.burwood.nsw.gov.au//ApplicationDetails/01/ Both are massive, flat roof, factory like structures surrounding locally listed heritage items and next to a conservation zone. We need to act quickly to stop this happening. We need your help to convince Burwood Council to reject these proposals.
