Ms Michelle Wade, Commissioner - South Asia, Global Victoria & Mr Raj Kumarji, Consul General India in Australia (Consulate General of India, Melbourne) launched the program virtually today. "PROJECT SASS" is funded by Study Melbourne’s International Student Welfare Program. An innovative, online, student-led project to promote the welfare and wellbeing of Victoria’s South Asian International Students. It will deliver culturally-appropriate, evidence-based activities to: Increase their leadership skills, workplace knowledge& skills; Improve social cohesion to address their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing; Deepen inter-agency collaborations over a shared concern, advancing knowledge of the issues and developing effective service responses.

05.01.2022 Today, IndianCare launched Project SASS - a project to support South Asian International Students. The keynote speakers at the launch were Ms. Michele Wade, Commissioner for Victoria to South Asia and Mr Raj Kumar, Indian Consul-General in Melbourne. Project SASS is a highly collaborative project working with 10 partner organisations and student representatives. The 10 project partners include 5 Universities and five agencies - Federation University, LaTrobe University, RMIT..., University of Melbourne, Victoria University, Good Cycles Social Enterprise, Aussizz Group of Immigration and Education Consultants, Australia India Sports Council, Australia India Society of Victoria, and Hindu Organisations and Temple Associations Forum. Students have designed a beautiful logo for the project, incorporating the flag colours of the 6 countries comprising South Asia - India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. There are three aims for Project SASS: 1. develop students' leadership skills, workplace knowledge and employability 2. increase social cohesion and address physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of the students 3. to deliver cultural competence training for educational institutions, employers and mainstream support services working with South Asian students We thank the Victorian government, through Study Melbourne, for funding this one year project.
