Bidri, a decorative metal work technique, was introduced to India by #Persian #craftsmen in the 14th and 15th centuries. Made of an alloy of zinc, copper and lead which was traditionally blackened by the soil from this region, artisans inlaid silver or gold into intricate engraved patterns and polished to a high sheen to create the distinctive Bidri look. As reflective of its #heritage, traditional Bidri techniques have Persian namestajhnishan (inlay of sheet), zarnishan (low relief) and zarbulund (high relief). Deeply influenced by #Mughal #motifs of the period, Bidri #artisans favoured ornate floral designs with stylized poppy and lotus flowers, cypress trees and leafy vines.
