19.01.2022 Chappelow Cup - Round 11- Balmain South Sydney Knights vs Ryde Hunter Hills at Home Ground, Alexandria Park Vaibhav won the toss and decided to bat first. The aim was to score runs and put pressure on a team that’s almost last in the table. In the absence of our regular opener Ajith, VB decided to open the innings with Nanju but got out on 0. Nanjundesh then kept playing his natural game with our Mr. Wall, Shishir but eventually got run out on 28 due a horrible mix up. The sc...ore was 46/2 after 10 overs when Kranthi was promoted to bat up the order. He showed a good spirit and batting skills with his 3 fours, however he got out on 14. After this Sandip, Guru and Nitish all got out cheaply on bad balls. The score was 137/6. Shishir, on the other hand led from the front with his class and temperament and scored a beautiful 50. Kush, Mangesh and Baba pulled some fireworks in the middle. But it was the wonderful inning of 109 runs by Shishir that helped Knights to put a respectable total of 225 runs on board. It was Shishir’s first century of the season which became even more special by his dramatic run out on a free fit. 225 isn’t an easy score to chase at Knights home ground. Kranthi and Kush were bang on target with opening spells and got 2 and 1 wicket respectively. Ryde was down to 3 wickets for 35 runs in 10 overs. Next 10 overs Ryde showed some resilience and made 87 runs without losing a wicket. But then the Veteran Sammy came in like a storm and picked up 3 wickets, all bowled. Ryde tried to bounce back by hitting boundaries but couldn’t sustain the wrath of VB, Nanju and Guru and got all out on 137. Knights missed a bonus point by just 2 runs, that’s why it is said that each run is important in cricket. Macquarie University also won their game, this means Knights will stay at the 3rd position for now. The competition for top 4 spots is getting intense each game. Reporter and Editor: Nitish Gaur

06.01.2022 Chappelow Cup - Round 10- Balmain South Sydney Knights vs Mt. Pritchard Southern District Black at Away Ground, Greenway Park It was a long drive to the Southern District of Sydney. We were welcomed with a pitch as hard as a cement with patches of green here and there. Mounties won the toss and decided to bat first. It made sense because the pitch was hard. It was just a matter of avoiding green patches for them but our bowlers had a dream start. Kush made his comeback with ...a bang, left arm swing balling taking 3 wickets in 2 overs. Vaibhav got 1 amazing in swinging bowled and Mounties were down to 4 for just 9 runs. But Mounties are known for their comebacks and they didn’t disappoint by playing sensibly. Our bowlers were coming hard on them but they managed to score 75 runs when Kranthi took back to back 5th and 6th wickets. Nitish was a bit expensive with 39 runs in 8 overs but managed to pick 1 wicket. Mounties started scoring in boundaries thereafter but VB and Nanju showed their experience and took 1 wicket each. Mounties innings ended for 142 runs with a spectacular direct throw by Sandip from the boundary line on to the stumps. It was Knights turn to show their batting skills and the openers Ajith and Nanjundesh did not disappoint as usual. They managed to score 40 runs in 7 overs when Nanju got caught out playing an ambitious shot in the air. Mounties started to bowl a good line and length that led to a fall of 3 more wickets for 73 runs. Sandip and Baba then held the innings till 116 runs when Baba got out for a well made 24. Things got hot in the middle with a controversial run out decision going against Mounties way, but Sandip kept his calm and gifted Knights with a well deserved victory. Final score: 143/7 Again a good win for the Knights. Next game is at the home ground. Knights would be eyeing for the second spot in the league table. Reporter and Editor: Nitish Gaur
