24.01.2022 Its craaaaazy windy weather here together, raging on shores often have me dreaming of the calmness of the depths below. 23.01.2022 Cold rainy days have me pulling out the ol slow cooker. Today I made a freestyle version of Kitcheri, one of the most immensely healing, purifying and balancing Ayurvedic dishes imaginable. But cooking with legumes often gets the house windy....how to combat that fluffy side effect? ... Seaweed of course! I chuck a couple of pieces of Kombu in with the Mung dal while its cooking and Bobs your uncle! It renders them more digestible and less gas producing and also helps them cook faster. Your welcome!

20.01.2022 Wow just wow! If anyone has ever had diving experiences with Cuttlefish, you will know they are the hypnotists of the water. They draw you in as you are mesmerised by their ever changing colours, all the while never taking their eyes off of you. Then before you know it, they can be gone in a flash, leaving you wondering if it was real or not?!! I was lucky enough last year to observe a courting pair in Rote, Indonesia. 14.01.2022 What can sustainable ocean farming look like? This!!!! Did you know that farming Seaweeds, as well Bivalves like these farmed Mussels require zero input? As in they require no human input like food or fertiliser, just moving water and sunlight.... What can they give us in return? Cleaner waterways, oxygen, habitat, and a sustainable food source. We have been busy learning lab and farming techniques from amazing industry leaders who have been supporting our journey. Watch this space!

14.01.2022 Kaya/Hello August and the Djilba season! This season covers August and September in the 6 Noongar seasons in the South West of Australia. Its also known as the Conception season. It sees clear cold days combine with warmer, rainy and windy days mixing with the occasional sunny day or two. ... Traditionally, it is a season of conception and transition where nature feels alive and strong. It is also a time to look for the wonderful blooms of yellows, cream and striking blue flowers in our region. Many orchid species begin to appear! Watch out as Magpies start to swoop protecting their babies in nests nearby! Its also a good time to observe the Milky Way at night, the Dark Emu is visible, indicating its a good time for hunting. A wonderful reminder to get outside and get amongst it! Connect to country. Posted @withregram @centacarewa

12.01.2022 Did you know a large part of all photosynthesis processes on earth is carried out by algae? Forests and plants arent the only organisms providing oxygen! Seas and oceans also play a huge role.... The percentage contributed by algae (micro algae like phyto plankton and spirulina, and macro algae which are seaweeds) to the oxygen supply differs to the variety and the scientific literature, but is nonetheless staggering! Some scientists believe that anywhere between 50-90% of our oxygen is derived from algae! So next time you see some seaweed at the beach, please say gday and thank you for being such a life force! It deserves the same amount of respect for conservation as a forest of big trees does. #respect #kelp #ecklonia #westernaustralia #indianocean #seagreens #seaweed #seavegetables #oxygen #lifeforce #oceanconservation Posted @withregram @bukuro.insta #Ecklonia #kurome in #Yamaguchi #Japan, Apr. 2019. 08.01.2022 Yesterday was the first day of Plastic Free July!! We are big believers that every little effort helps. Every year I like to set myself a new challenge as to not feel overwhelmed. About 5 years ago I bought myself a set of mesh produce bags, and I havent used a plastic weigh bag since. The next year I started lining our rubbish bin with newspaper, the next no takeaway coffee cups.... It starts to become habit then its not so hard.... I still mess up, Im time poor, with 3 kids and a busy life, sometimes convenience brings the plastic back in. But it sure feels good to try. I hope when my kids are adults that the world of packaging has completely transformed to be 100% earth friendly. What little challenge can you master this July?? 07.01.2022 Seaweed/sea vegetables/Macro Algae....whatever you want to call it, its a mind blowing organism, its capable of so many things, here are just a few: Creates Habitat. Improves water quality. Is a zero waste product.... Is a nutritional superfood. Encourages biodiversity. Grows very fast. Just needs sunlight and salt water. Takes up and stores C02. Releases Oxygen. When fed to cattle drastically reduces methane emissions. is one of the most sustainable food sources on the planet! 06.01.2022 Seaweed grows at a very rapid rate. In ideal conditions some species can grow as much as 60cm in length in one day. Large quantities can be grown with minimal inputs and just like forests, seaweed captures and stores CO2 as it grows. With such rapid growth, seaweed has great potential to help offset the excess carbon produced by human activity. By Professor Tim Flannery from the book Sunlight and seaweed.... 04.01.2022 Meet the team #3! Meet Matt Bevis, also known as Bevis, Beev or Beeva. You will most often find Bevis drinking tea, at the helm of a yacht, putting back together pieces of an engine or enjoying life surfing or barefoot....riding a bike, driving his postie motorbike or old school Land Rover around marinas and beaches.... He is a man of many places, originating from Dorset, he lives between Western Australia, (on his home on his beloved Ketch named Solar driftwood), Italy where his lovely lady is, and on a super yacht (between the Mediterranean and Caribbean) where he shares a job as a chief engineer. Don’t be fooled by his casual style, this fella is super switched on! He may use a piece of string for a belt, but he has qualifications as a Fitter and Turner, mechanical engineer (200T), shipwright and has his MCA Master captains licence for vessels up to 200T commercial endorsed. He also shapes a mean single fin surf board! Bevis brings to the team an incredible skill set in mooring and marine knowledge and maintenance. Plus he is the head tea brewer, probably the most important job of all. As we all know, all dreams are manifested and meetings are done over a good cup of gold. Beev is an absolute ocean lover, legend, and is proud to call himself a seaweed farmer. He is excited by the potential of seaweeds in ocean restoration and for human health. 03.01.2022 Every now and then you read a book that you know will stay with you forever. This has been one of those! Years spent at sea sailing and frolicking in the ocean increased my sense of awe and wonder more than I could of have ever imagined. ... Ive seen pods of dolphins at night swimming alongside the boat, silhouettes perfectly illuminated with phosphorescence. Ive seen the sea surface turn to milk. Ive surfed at night in waves glowing with magic. And witnessed the glow of ghost fungus in the jarrah forest I grew up in! So much magic, so much awe, so much mystery! Do yourself a favour and read this, its an exploration in how we can pursue awe, wonder and purpose to light us up in moments of darkness. Those who dwell, as scientists or laymen, among the beauties or mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life.....their thoughts can find paths that lead to inner contentment and to renewed excitement in living. Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. By Rachel Carson, the sense of wonder. 01.01.2022 Here’s another instalment of Meet the team! Kaya, This is me Emma aka Pups! I have only been part of the gang for a year, after a conversation with Bevis (you will meet him soon) while sailing. Apparently the business needed some female energy, and I’m hoping I have done that!... So...me...I am a mother of three, wife of Chan. Within IOSV I am a director, chief social media and marketing lady, ocean farm diver, recipe tester and business implementation girl. (Thanks to my current mentor-ship with @agristart_aus ) In life I am highly excitable, love adventuring, have spent 4 years sailing around the world and many more musing my way around doing dream gardening and Eco-tourism jobs in many countries. I love surfing, sailing, growing sustainable food, bush walking, orchid hunting, camping with my family, and sitting still on a ledge while diving and watching all the tiny creatures living their life. I am a trained Horticulturalist, have studied Permaculture design, and Conservation and land management. But getting my twins to sleep at the same time is by far my biggest achievement. I aim to help drive this new industry, as I feel it’s my duty to help shift current methods of growing food towards regenerative and sustainable methods. Pleased to meet you all! @ Noongar Boodjar

As unnatural as breathing underwater seems, the feeling of soaring weightlessly under the waves is one of the most incredible sensations a person is likely to experience.
