Our intent is to provide local people a level entry pathway to gain experience in the mining industry and increase opportunities of employment. During this work experience program successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on one of the biggest rail operations in the world while completing a Cert II in Shunting. You will be instilled with a strong understanding of safety, communication skills, time management, the ability to work in a fast paced environment and be exposed to the unique work force culture of our operations, while under the guidance of a strong mentoring program. Starting roster will be 4:3 8 hr days transitioning into 8:8 12 hr days. On successful completion of traineeship, you will hold a cert II in Shunting, as full-time roles become available with Fortescue and IMMS you will be encouraged to apply. What does a Shunter do? Couple and uncouple train wagons and carriages Direct train drivers when coupling wagons/carriages and locomotives Conduct safety checks on trains Place wagons into yards (railway parking tracks) Direct train drivers around the rail yard Move trains with remote control devices Shunting is the pathway to train driving. What are we looking for? Qualifications: Successful completion of Year 12 or TAFE equivalent. Prerequisites: Be residential to Port Hedland Ability to pass a rail cat 2 medical, including a drug and alcohol test. A satisfactory National Police Clearance (NPC).
