08.01.2022 A trauma response explanation; Flight/fight/freeze are common responses to trauma. The ability to activate all three mechanisms is why people both survive & he...al from traumatic events. Much of this is genetic & biological (what we inherit as a stress response mechanism) & the balance is environment (what is modelled; extent of trauma exposure & nature of the trauma itself -personal or sexual assaults increasing trauma likelihood for example) Post trauma occurs when cognitions become so altered after trauma that the mind tells the body to see threat everywhere (imagined rather than real). Essentially there is a misfiring; ensuring the flight/fight response is activated regardless of threat. Over time this response can become normalised. Freeze has dissociative elements which has the outcome of forcing the heart rate down to enable access to the higher level thinking part of your brain. This ensures higher level problem solving is possible to ensure survival or planned escape. The flight/fight response is the body in hyperarousal. The brain tells the body to arm itself to enable either physical escape (flight) or to defend itself (fight) It makes sense that flight/fight/freeze are all needed in order to survive traumatic events. Switching between dissociation and hyperarousal being the critical survival & post trauma healing elements.

02.01.2022 These Northern Territory groups are just the best - thank you Darwin, Mission Australia for hosting my 3 day Mental Health & Suicide Prevention workshop. The ...NT is so very close to my heart being the first work I did outside of WA when I started my business all those years ago. The extent to which NT mob embraced the work from the start has humbled me. Thank you!!! Now off to the equally lovely Adelaide for the final stretch before finally heading home to Perth on Monday #BuildAnArmy See more

02.01.2022 Brilliant day with the Westerman Jilya Institute for Indigenous Mental Health board & volunteers undertaking our strategic planning! We have achieved significan...t amounts just in 6 months with 15 Indigenous Psychology students being financially supported through our many donors & sponsors. Our future looks so bright. We are not only continuing to #BuildAnArmy but are starting a long overdue revolution to ensure the words child suicide will no longer belong in a sentence. Australia is joining us in that aspiration
