15.01.2022 Alone in my exhibition today I had a chance to pause & think. Most times my head is down- focused on my hands Today I bent low to the ground and looked up. So...metimes all that is needed is another perspective When I got home from my 'new perspective' visit I did the same thing with my muka that was drying in the sun - ng hihi o te ra I saw it from another angle and it confirmed the design I have in store for the kakahu I'm working towards.
14.01.2022 Myer X Warlukurlangu Arts Collaboration Experience the artisanal Indigenous works of Warlukurlangu Artists of Yuendumu, Northern Territory in collaboration with... MYER homewares house brand, Vue. With a range of gift and homewares, this organic cotton percale quilt cover set pictured, features the beautiful handcrafted artwork of Patrick Japangardi Williams. Patrick Japangardi Williams was born in Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community 290km north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia. He grew up in Yuendumu and attended Yirara College, an Aboriginal boarding college in Alice Springs. He currently lives in Nyirripi with his wife and two children. He began painting for Warlukurlangu Artist in 2012 and paints his grandfathers Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming) and his fathers Mina Mina Jukurrpa (Mina Mina Dreaming). Mina Mina Jukurrpa (Mina Mina Dreaming) Janyinki This painting depicts Jukurrpa (Dreaming) from Mina Mina, a very important womens Dreaming site far to the west of Yuendumu near Lake Mackay and the WA border. The kirda (owners) of this Dreaming are Napangardi/Napanangka women and Japangardi/Japanangka men; the area is sacred to Napangardi and Napanangka women. In the Dreamtime, ancestral women danced at Mina Mina and karlangu (digging sticks) rose up out of the ground. The women collected the digging sticks and then travelled on to the east, dancing, digging for bush tucker, collecting ngalyipi (snake vine [Tinospora smilacina]), and creating many places as they went. Range available via Myer online. Photo & Words MYER

The Torres Strait 51 Far North Queensland Regiment Sarpeye dance - a mixture o...f traditional army and island dance styles. 06.01.2022 For many years a small body of us maintained a cultural fiber practice. Our elder Marjorie Kinjun has always shared with us her wisdom and deep cultural memory.... Today she mentors our awakening of her Gulngay kingfisher story to develop a living waters protection of our wet tropics. Quietly and steadily we are awakening this storyline with each TO family. Connectivity of families, land, and contemporary community. #okkawikka #gijilordi #livingwaters #livingsoil See more
