19.01.2022 The theme of NAIDOC Week this year is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’, recognising the First Nations people who have occupied and cared for this continent for over... 65,000 years. Haileybury Rendall School would like to thank Tony and Trent Lee, of Larrakia Nation, who oversaw our recent Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony. Students were reminded of the significance of the ceremony and the ancient origins of these practices. The respect shown was a wonderful way to set the tone for the week’s activities celebrating Aboriginal culture. Thanks to all the staff who organised the events and for our students and community. 16.01.2022 The photo below was taken on sunrise of 1st January 2020 on a beach near Hindmarsh River overlooking the ocean on Ngarrindjeri Country. The lady who took th...is picture is a non-Indigenous person who has great respect for Aboriginal people and our inherited responsibilities to care for Mother Earth in particularly. She said she was able to capture this (no filters) moment in time which was incredible knowing how much it resembled our flag [~0~] She told me......I always take a camera, but the rising sun was just a pale disc behind the layers of smoke. And then for just a few seconds, it was that magic symbol in the sky. Like the ancestors were looking down and trying to get a message to us white mob......she went on and said....The flag is theirs, not mine, and those are there ancestors looking down that morning. Given our survival day, 26th January is fast approaching, Rose has relinquished ownership of this photograph for Aboriginal people to use free for our t-shirts or whatever we need to express our pride, culture our history. A beautiful story of what is needed to return us back to restore this Country and that Aboriginal people need to be at the forefront of decisions on how to sustain this Country, just like our ancestors, our Rangers our mob who all know that this Country Owns Us were nothing without it. Let’s hope the rest of Australia wakes the hell up and starts to value and appreciate our love of caring and sustaining Country and the ecosystem within it. Love you mob! Stay strong **Use the image below**
15.01.2022 Indigenous Australians Minister, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, delivered the keynote address at an event hosted by the Northern Land Council in Darwin last night. In... his address Minister Wyatt announced a $100 million NT Indigenous Economic Stimulus Package, developed in partnership with the four Northern Territory Land Councils, to provide immediate support for Aboriginal businesses and jobs in the NT. Indigenous businesses in the NT are struggling and the Morrison Government is committed to supporting their recovery through the COVID-19, Minister Wyatt said. Working with the NT Land Councils, we are releasing $100 million from the Aboriginals Benefit Account (ABA) for Aboriginal people to create and sustain jobs through capital injections in ‘shovel-ready’ economic, social and infrastructure projects. The funding will be provided to Aboriginal businesses and infrastructure projects through the NT Land Councils, which will identify projects that are ready to commence now so the funding can flow into communities as soon as possible. Chair of the Northern Land Council, Samuel Bush-Blanasi, said the package is an example of Aboriginal people and Government coming together in shared decision-making. The four Land Councils in the NT are strong organisations that are well connected to all of their communities and know how ABA funding can be used effectively, Mr Bush-Blanasi said. By investing in small scale Aboriginal-owned infrastructure projects with short or no lead time, we can have an immediate and lasting effect on our people. Chair of the Central Land Council, Sammy Wilson, said the funding will be a welcome boost across the NT. This package will see projects that are ready to go be delivered, such as improving homeland infrastructure, upgrading ranger accommodation to look after country and create more jobs, building or repairing fences, or maintenance projects, all drawing on an Indigenous supply chain, Mr Wilson said.
