22.01.2022 The IHH has BIG NEWS Our Trivia Night fundraiser is coming up on Friday Nov 13!! After many postponings, we've decided to go ahead with the event over Zoom - join us, bring your friends, or make new ones on the night. P.s. If you are all "Zoomed-out" but still want to donate, there are "No-show" donation tickets available at the link. 21.01.2022 Thank you SO MUCH to our generous and talented community, who donated a total of 100 hand-made and purchased masks for our mask drive! Via Elizabeth Morgan House Aboriginal Women's Service Inc, these masks will be making their way to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who need them in hospital and isolation. Keep up the lockdown love <3

18.01.2022 CALLOUT FOR NEW RESIDENTS The Indigenous Hospitality House is seeking expressions of interest to join as a resident community member. With Chris, Mehrin and Samara moving on to exciting new chapters, so is the house- and all are invited to consider if you'd like to be a part of it!... Outside of lockdown, the House hosts Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander hospital patients and their families while they attend to hospital business in Melbourne. At present, we can't provide accommodation due to the pandemic- so energy is going into IHH's outreach and education projects. At this point, new residents are desired for late this year/early 2021, although timelines are negotiable. If you're curious about what life as a resident looks like, and may be interested in contributing as a resident volunteer, please let us know! You can comment below, email the house on [email protected], or give the house a call on (03) 9387 7557. Current residents Josh Glover, Warrick Gilbert, Rubini Ball and Katecia Taylor are available to answer any questions - comment below, or get in touch via message, phone or email.

17.01.2022 The spring bounty is coming in! We turned some of our home-grown veg into scrumptious pasta

17.01.2022 'Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky' is a profound and irreverent doco which weaves the story of Cook's arrival with testaments to Indigenous resistance and creative survival - and features an impressive line-up of contemporary musicians. If you missed the premiere, or want to have a chat about it, you're in luck - in two week's time, IHH is hosting a Zoomovie! We'll watch 'Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky', and have a facilitated discussion afterwards.

16.01.2022 We'd like to say HUGE thank you on behalf of Elizabeth Morgan House Aboriginal Women's Service Inc for our community's generous donations of toiletries, in response to their urgent call out last week. This is only a portion of what we've been packaging up and delivering to them! For those who've asked, this work is classified as care and compassionate work, as well an essential service - so it's doubly legal, despite current restrictions. The needs of vulnerable communities are only increasing at this time, and with it, our commitment to extending support however we can while our doors are closed

14.01.2022 Trivia Night is this friday! You still have time to get some tickets. Come by yourself or come with a team. 14.01.2022 Written for the Turtle Island (US) context, this message from Oluwatomisin Oredein speaks to white folk in so-called Australia, too. "I’m realizing that COVID-19 has been this strange doorman for you to walk into the anti-racist room. He is the strange usher for an anti-racist you. He has taken away most other places in which you retreat, so you have very few choices of where to go; so, you walk into the room. Breathe into this; don’t breathe it away."

13.01.2022 URGENT - one of our referrers has contacted us requesting donations of toiletries for Indigenous women locked down in hotels and prisons. The Indigenous Hospitality House is acting as a drop-off point, if you'd like to drop some supplies get in contact with us by message or email [email protected]

13.01.2022 Garden update!! Via Josh, IHH's resident green thumb What we now call Spring has been referred to as Poorneet season for likely far longer than the word 'spring' has ever existed! This Kulin season marks the time when the temperatures rise, the rains continue and the pied currawongs call loudly (becoming nature's alarm clock for some of the IHH residents!). I guess we're trying to learn how to be like the mint here at the IHH - at the moment we're confined to our barrow (ou...r home) but we're doing a bunch of different things to learn to flourish in this locked down time. A tour in photos: thriving mint in its new barrel home; a happy bunch of herbs (Coriander, Chives, Thyme, Sage, Vietnamese Mint, Oregano); eggplant, tomato and capsicum seedlings in the nursery; and the new mushroom bed around front of the house!

13.01.2022 Beginning to feel that buzz of community again! Thanks to the vollies for helping out with our garden working bee :) If you'd like to be kept in the loop about future vollie working bees or volunteer here at the house, feel free to flick us a DM or email ([email protected])

12.01.2022 In our latest newsletter update (email [email protected] if you'd like to receive these), IHH resident Josh Glover included a reflection on this time of transition for the IHH. Christopher Booth, Mehrin Almassi and Samara Pitt, long-time and much-loved residents of the house, are moving on to exciting new chapters; which means, so is the house! The feelings are mixed, but the love is deep <3 Read the full update here: http://www.ihh.org.au//29/sailing-into-a-new-era-at-the-ihh

11.01.2022 Hi all! A number of our referrers have told us they need resuable face masks for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in hotel quarantine or hospitals. So we're calling on our broader community to rally together and make and donate reusable face masks (if you're not the mask making type, you can donate $10 and we'll purchase a mask on your behalf - just email us at [email protected]). Check out the event below for more info. Our last call out was a huge success, let's keep the momentum going and stay active

10.01.2022 Our broccoli has started to sprout!

09.01.2022 The fight on Djab Wurrung country to protect the sacred trees is still very much active. If you really want to support but cant go out to camp for whatever reason there is one really tangible way you can help. Dozens of protectors went down last week to the trees claiming care and compassionate grounds to travel >25km and protect the sacred sites. The police have chosen not to see these reasons as valid and have handed out about $250,000 worth of fines.... Donating at this link will directly help the protectors pay back these fines. This is a tangible and significant way for you to help. Any money donated will enable protectors, both First Nations and non-Indigenous people, to continue the fight to protect sacred sites. https://chuffed.org/project/djab-wurrung-protectors-fund

08.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came to our Trivia and Auction night last week! With your support we managed to raise over $4,000 for the work we're doing here at the house. Hope you all had a lovely night :D

06.01.2022 Hi everyone! Just thought we would remind you about the Zoomovie we’re hosting next week. Madman Films have made Murundak available for free so you can watch from home, then discuss with us afterwards. Details at the event link:

06.01.2022 Playing real life tetris as we put together food packs for Elizabeth Morgan House Aboriginal Women's Service Inc!

05.01.2022 Elizabeth Morgan House is so appreciative of the support we've been able to give - thanks to all who donated!

05.01.2022 Hope everyone has been enjoying the transition into Poorneet, tadpole season

04.01.2022 So, someone's been saying that there was never slavery in these lands...

04.01.2022 Our doors may be closed to guests, but the IHH residents are still finding plenty of ways to practice hospitality. Hope you're staying safe and healthy!

03.01.2022 In lockdown 2.0, we've been diving into spring garden planning at our house- what about you?

03.01.2022 "Gari Yala" means 'speak the truth' in the Wiradjuri language. New research from the Jumbunna Institute of Indigenous Education and Research and Diversity Council Australia is speaking truth to Australian employers about the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff. Gari Yala is based on a survey of 1,033 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander workers across Australia and reveals some shocking realities about experiences of racism, the lack of cultural saf...ety and identity strain experienced by Indigenous people across Australian workplaces. For those of us who are non-Indigenous, when we watch this video and listen to the examples of racism its good to reflect on where things we may have said - without intending them to be racist - may have been experienced as racist. Its not just our intentions that matter, its helpful to think about the impacts of what we say. Go well!

01.01.2022 Four days ago, Wangan and Jagalingou protecters set up a blockade at the entrance to the site of the Adani coal mine. They are calling for supporters to post photos of themselves in solidarity - see the comments for details
