16.01.2022 Farewell Indigenous Raw Arts Introducing Panipan Designs In Feb 2003, hubby and wife, Edwin & Regina Turner, first started their part time family small business, trading as ERT Art, then Indigenous Raw Arts, to produce and retail local unique handcrafted artefacts and souvenirs. Sixteen years later, the duo re-registered and rebranded their business from Indigenous Raw Arts to Panipan Designs.... Inspired by Torres Strait Islander, Kala Lagaw Ya, Mabuyag dialect, the traditional language word Poenipan meaning ‘lightning’, originates from the near western island cluster, Mabuyag Is (nontraditionally spelt ‘Mabuiag’), located in the Torres Strait. Regina’s maternal lineage, heralds from the Mabuyag Wagadagam tribe. Edwin’s maternal lineage, derives from Wuthathi, Cape York Aboriginal clan and Ambon, Indonesia. Acknowledgement and respect to traditional Mabuyag custodians, bala (brothers) Cygnet Repu and bala Gabriel Bani, who provided advice to us with language translation and pronunciation. Will keep you posted on our journey of future product developments, events and milestones achieved.
