17.01.2022 Back from the brink! The critically endangered Banksia vincentia is a remarkable plant first discovered a decade ago in a small patch of remnant vegetation ne...ar Vincentia on the New South Wales South Coast. Only 14 plants were found, and then a deadly combination of bushfire and soil-borne disease reduced the population to just four. This made the Banksia vincentia possibly Australia’s rarest banksia, and is one of 30 plants targeted for recovery under the Australian Government’s Threatened Species Strategy. To ensure it is retained in Australia’s floral landscape, the Australian National Botanic Gardens has been working with Booderee National Park to create a seed orchard for the species from which they can harvest seed to grow and plant them back into their natural home. It’s been a challenge, but propagating efforts at the Booderee National Park seed orchard are proving successful so far. There are now over 1200 individual propagated plants. The ultimate goal is to have at least 800 of these fully established within the Booderee orchard to secure genetic diversity and the survival of this species. The future of this species is in good hands with Booderee National Park and Australian National Botanic Gardens in partnership with Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and Wollongong Botanic Garden. I’m proud of the Australian Government’s support for this stunning plant and this crucial project. 10.01.2022 Anyone looking to help wildlife after bushfires - here is a simple cheap way of getting water out for animals. We've been making these 'water fountains' to help... wildlife affected by drought at Arid Recovery. The can be made from equipment available in any hardware store. The key is to completely seal the top and bottom of the PVC tube with plumbers cement. This creates a vacuum that holds the water in the tube and limits evaporation. They last about a fortnight here in 40+ degree temps before they need to be refilled. Wherever possible, it's best to place the fountains amongst some shelter to reduce evaporation and give animals shelter from predators as they come in to drink.

07.01.2022 Help spread the word... to recover habitat for wildlife as quickly as possible bushland needs rain (gentle rain and lots of it).... and in many instances it may need weed control to let the fire-adapted vegetation recover on its own. A key is to wait and see before rushing in.

01.01.2022 GREAT NEWS! Newport Littoral Rainforest saved! Puchased by Department of Planning and NB Council: Friday August 23 Media Release: LITTORAL RAINFOREST SECURED AS... PUBLIC OPEN SPACE More than 10,000 square metres of Littoral rainforest near Newport will be preserved as public open space thanks to a $4.6 million joint investment by the NSW Government and Northern Beaches Council. Member for Pittwater and Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said the acquisition will ensure the pristine ecological area is preserved for the next generation. Our government is committed to ensuring the people of NSW have access to great public open space, Mr Stokes said. Protecting the environment is a huge priority for the Northern Beaches community,so I am delighted we have been able to preserve endangered rainforest, while protecting an important wildlife corridor and increasing green space in the Sydney basin. Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the purchase was a huge win for the local community. Despite its high environmental value, this land on Hillside Road had been slated for sub-division and significant development, so it’s great we’ve been able to partner with the State government to save it and bring it into public hands, Mayor Regan said. I’d like to thank the many community groups and individuals who fought to have this critical land saved and ensure this incredible outcome became a reality. The purchase, co-funded with Northern Beaches Council through the Greater Sydney Open Space Program, demonstrates the NSW Government’s priority to secure and improve green space across the State. The site will now be transferred to Northern Beaches Council for ongoing care See more

01.01.2022 Out with the old, in with the new. We have updated our logo to incorporate our partner company Australian Bushland Restoration. What do you think of it? A lot of the plants we grow go straight back to our Bush Regen teams and into the bush. It’s nice to have a full circle of the plant, from collecting the seed from a particular site/reserve to have the grown tubestock planted right back in the reserve it came from. It’s the circle of life
