25.01.2022 STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER TEMPERAMENT Due to its breeding, the modern dog is known for its character of indomitable courage, high intelligence, and tenacity. This, coupled with its affection for its friends, and children in particular, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability, makes it a foremost all-purpose dog. It has been said that No breed is more loving with its family.... Staffies are very active and playful and can be rather animated in their enthusiasm. Their boisterous nature and spirit give credit to the statement that Staffords are the lovable rogues of the dog world. Owners of these dogs often describe them as loyal, active and goofy, and whilst they enjoy being the centre of attention, once acknowledged, they are often happy just to be with you. If danger is near they will surely notice, as they are very aware of their surroundings. Nothing goes unnoticed by the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. They will bark if they sense something wrong, but are generally friendly to anyone they meet, even strangers. Being a very loyal dog, they will stand by their owners and protect them with whatever force is needed. They don’t tend to bark much, but they are quite a ‘talkative’ breed. The Stafford has a wide range of vocal utterances that are used frequently to display emotion. Staffords usually don’t start fights, but if challenged, will not back down (often to the detriment of themselves and/or others). They are very tenacious and strong and also have high pain tolerance. Males tend to be the more aggressive ones, and prefer to be top dog, any other male dog may be seen as a threat, and this is why proper socialization is a must. Staffords should also know that any aggressive behaviour is unacceptable and should be distracted from acting in an aggressive manner. The breed is naturally muscular and may appear intimidating; however, because of their natural fondness for people, most Staffords are temperamentally ill-suited for guard or attack-dog training. You have nothing to fear from a Staffordshire Bull Terrier as his fighting past was purely as a combatant and not as an aggressor to man. Staffords will do anything to please their human friends and can be relied on to uphold their breed standard at all times. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier appears in the top ten breeds most suitable for families and especially children in many studies. The breed is highly intelligent, eager to please and very people friendly. It adapts readily to most situations making it the foremost all purpose dog. INDIGO AURORA Staffords are primarily bred with the absolute best temperament in mind.

22.01.2022 Yesterday I showed you Aurora Borealis. Today I present to you Aurora Australis! I took this photo on New Years Eve 2016 and it won NASA Astronomy Photo of the ...Day. I was at a New Years Eve party and my aurora alert on my phone was buzzing frequently in my pocket. I saw the New Year in with my friends and then headed home. But on the way, I decided to stop off and see if I could take some photos of the aurora. I reached this spot and quickly set up. I could see there was a glow on the southern horizon. In my first shot I could see it was definitely there! This was my second shot. And after that it quickly subsided. I was lucky to get the shot!! Best New Years Fireworks I have ever seen. Natures fireworks :) See more

21.01.2022 Sometimes all we need is some unconditional love

18.01.2022 We get it. Lockdown is lonely and being home is a convenient time to bring a dog into the family. But the coronavirus has been an absolute money-maker for puppy... farmers. Suddenly their excuses to meet you in a car park, or away from their home are legitimate. We believe that a lot of people in Victoria are being complacent when looking for a dog because they believe puppy factories are banned in Victoria. This is NOT the case. Victoria’s new laws will not be rolled out in full until the end of this year, with many puppy farmers utilising these final months to make a killing off unsuspecting buyers. We’re hearing stories of puppy farmers doubling their prices, taking waiting lists and working poor breeding dogs on overdrive to meet the demand. Dogs are coming in from interstate and shipped to front doors at a rapid rate. We understand being locked down is tough. But this moment is temporary. These dogs will be locked down for the rest of their lives as long as people support puppy farmers.

11.01.2022 One chapter in the book Celebrating Staffordshire Bull Terriers begins with: Among purebreds, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier stands out as being an athletic Br...eed, a fact all too few Staffords fanciers fully appreciate and those owning most other breeds seldom realise. The Stafford’s athletic abilities remain a key factor in its continuing to be a foremost all-purpose dog and so bred-in-the-bone that type is vital in this breed even many generations of being bred primarily for show has exerted much detrimental effect. But if you study the critiques from recent championship dog shows, where it is claimed that only the best appear, you see a different picture. Here are some of the judges comments: many exhibits carry far too much weightmany exhibits displayed a distinct lack of rib and forechest; narrow fronts and bodies also upright pasterns; shoulders and fronts have deteriorated alarmingly; poor rear movement with many lacking drive; I do feel that we need to work our way back to a correct blend of bull and terrier not one or the other; rear movement was poor and I was quite alarmed by the number displaying features which depart so much from the Standard that there is a real possibility of breed identity being lost if we continue down this path. Whilst it is good to see the honesty in such remarks, it is worrying to read such consistent criticism of some features over several years. I see Staffords in the show ring with very poor feet, feet more suitable for a Whippet, and they win! I see many without muscular development and in this breed that never looks impressive. An unfit waddling Stafford looks dreadful and insults the heritage of the breed. A poorly constructed Stafford will never move well. Writing in the first issue of the magazine The Stafford in 1948, the respected breeder Jimmie Russ stated that: The foundation of the dog is the skeletal structureToo heavy bone is usually coarse, and being heavy is slower in movement. Light bone on the other hand is fast but lacks strength. Aim for good, clean, straight bone, with neither frailty nor coarseness. Aim for quality, which is neither coarseness nor lightness. Your Stafford will lack the speed of a Whippet, but he will be surprisingly fast in the manner of a first-class welter-weight boxer. That last phrase sums up this breed for me; the Stafford should be the welter-weight of the dog breeds, fit, muscular, fast on its feet, alert and full of vigour. This is a very special breed, whose blood is rightly prized in a number of other breeds or types. Staffordshire has given us a quite admirable breed of dog and one which needs our support more now than ever before. David Hancock
