22.01.2022 Collaboration and partnership! Thanks ACFID for featuring our recent partnership with the Afghan Educated Women's Services Organisation (AEWSO) and the University of Technology Sydney in this article. This three way partnership helped AWESO get the research and funding support they needed to undertake a two year research project to identify the barriers and opportunities for Afghan women seeking employment. Have a read of the article to find out more about different models of collaboration used by ACFID members.

20.01.2022 Lovely to see the Times of India reporting on the great work of our partners Mahalir Sakthi, through their long-term commitment. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com//articles/78502575.cms

19.01.2022 Over 800,000 people have been impacted by severe flooding in South Sudan. We are working with our Partnership Advisor Santino Yuot to understand the impact in Wedweil and surrounds where our partnership is based. Santino has advised that over 100 houses have been impacted and crops destroyed, and that priority needs are food, shelter and medicine, as well as potentially new seeds and support for the women-run food gardens that were starting to establish over the past 18 months. We will continue working with Santino to understand how we can support our partner community through this period. Below is a snapshot of the flooding as of 21 October produced by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

18.01.2022 Enjoying Flavours of Indigo over lunch today with Rob and Judy Mitchell.

16.01.2022 What's in a name? As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations this year, we're reflecting on and celebrating our community partnerships, our team, shared stories and learnings over the past 20 years. We're in the final stages of pulling some of this together into a book(let) and in the meantime, here's a little story on the origins of the name and logo.

15.01.2022 Are you committed to community-led development and gender equity? Excited to support the important work that our partner, the HAKO Women's Collective, is doing in Bougainville? Well, have we got the role for you! We are recruiting for a Partnership Coordinator to work with the Hako Women's Collective, a powerful grassroots organisation representing local women in the Buka District in Bougainville. Through a busy resource centre, they provide education opportunities, run food ...security projects, advocate for the rights of women and children and run a Safe House for women facing family and sexual violence. This role is an Australia-based volunteer role. It is a great chance to join our small and passionate team, work with a diverse and highly skilled group of Partnership Coordinators and support the work that Hako is doing on the ground to support and advocate for women and children in the Buka District in Bougainville.

15.01.2022 We are recruiting for two board members at indigo foundation. If you are passionate about social justice and community-led development, want to play a leadership role as part of a welcoming and committed team and have some of the capabilities we are looking for, please consider applying. We are a virtual organisation and as a board member you can be based anywhere in Australia. We send many thanks to our outgoing longterm board members, Gwyneth Graham and Shirley Randell - we have benefitted enormously from your skills, insights and friendship.

13.01.2022 We have heard with horror this week about a suicide bombing targeting an education tutoring centre in Kabul. The blast has killed 24 students and wounded 57. Three of the students killed in the blast were from communities we have worked in in Borjegai and Jirghai, students who had finished high school last year and were attending exam preparation classes to get into university. Our Partnership Coordinator Ali Reza Yunespour is in contact with those families and we send our thoughts and strength to all the families and communities impacted.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to the Hako Womens' Collective on the opening of their new Meri Seif Haus in Bougainvile last week! The new Meri Seif Haus, a womens' refuge and safe house, expands Hako's existing safe house facilities and will provide a safe space for up to 10 women and children. The building was funded by the British High Commission, AusAID and the Haku community and we are excited to be working with the women of Hako to support ongoing staffing and operating costs for this vital service. The acting British Deputy High Commissioner, Jessica Eccles visited Bougainville to open the building #togetherforall #HakuWomensCollective #bougainville

10.01.2022 Club Rafiki in Kigali, Rwanda, have just released their annual report for 19/20 - here's their summary, tracking participation across their education, sexual health and wellbeing programs. Congratulations to Tony, Stephanie and all the team at Club Rafiki.

08.01.2022 This year indigo foundation celebrates 20 years of working with our community partners, with many thanks to our volunteers and supporters who have made it possible. We are putting the final touches on a book(let) that tries to capture some of the stories of change from over the years. As a teaser, here is one of the articles - about our partner PEAB in India. This story is drawn from interviews with Annie Namala and Semmalar Selvi, both formidable women and long-term advocates for Dalit rights who have been driving forces behind this partnership.

08.01.2022 From our Chair Lyla: Thanks to my neighbours in Richardson St, Garran for coming to my Flavours of indigo celebration last Sunday. This is a wonderful neighbourhood and it was great to share the story of indigo foundation - our journey and the impact of our partnerships overseas. The recipe cards from partners were a big hit. The pictures tell the story of a very enjoyable get together for a great cause!

08.01.2022 You might have heard about the terrible recent cases of gang rape in India. Both victims were young Dalit women. Our partner Mahalir Sakthi were part of an online protest in Madurai on Sunday night, while liaison officer for the PEAB project, Semmalar Selvi, spoke at another event from Chennai. We're so proud to support fantastic Dalit feminists, fighting for basic human rights every day and offer our solidarity to all those protesting. https://www.aljazeera.com//hathras-they-locked-us-inside-o

08.01.2022 Please have a read of this article by Ali Reza Yunespour, our Afghan Partnership Coordinator examining the systemic barriers facing aslyum seekers and refugees once arrived in Australia. Ali writes that "While there has been much focus on Australia’s external border controls, including offshore detention and boat turn backs, less attention has been paid to its internal deterrence policies, including temporary visas and denial of family reunion."

07.01.2022 Thanks Navitas for featuring our partners in Tamil Nadu, India, in the latest edition of 'Green Apple'. Check out p16-17, on the work that Mahalir Sakthi and PEAB are doing to support stronger education and training outcomes for women and children from Dalit and other marginalised backgrounds. With many thanks to the Navitas Education Trust for their generous support for this work.

04.01.2022 indigo foundation has signed on to the civil society pledge in support of the Community Sponsored Refugee Initiative. The Initiative is calling on the Federal Government to introduce a community sponsorship program for refugees, similar to that in place in Canada and Germany. More information - including how you can get involved and show support - is at the link. We especially want to recognise the work that two of our team are doing on this initiative - Ali Reza Yunespour, our Afghanistan Partnership Coordinator, is a member of the Steering Committee and Patron Libby Lloyd AM is the Chair. Thanks Ali and Libby for your vital work!

04.01.2022 This November, share a meal with your friends and family and support vital education, health and livelihoods initiatives for ...women and girls. 03.01.2022 Exciting news from our partners in Jirghai and Behsud in Afghanistan. Last month, Shadab High School held an opening ceremony to mark its new school building. This is the 5th building we've worked on with our partners in Behsud in the past five years. Check out the link for more photos and information. With many thanks to the Planet Wheeler Foundation and our community of donors for their ongoing support for this work.

03.01.2022 Our partners at Club Rafiki have been supporting young people in Kigali, Rwanda, to document and share their own experiences of COVID19.

02.01.2022 A great story out of Afghanistan last week - the highest score in the Kankor exams (the equivalent of our HSC) went to 17 year old Shamsea Alizada. Congratulations to Shamsea and congratulations to all the students who received their Kankor results last week. We are working with our team in Kabul to pull together the results from the network of schools that we are working with in Jirghai and Behsud.
