25.01.2022 Never have I ever! Welcome to Monday morning, the day after the rain finally came. @ Collector, New South Wales, Australia

25.01.2022 Planting the Garlic. It’s time!! It’s a new climate for us this year. Only marginally but I’m excited to see if we will notice a difference. We’re welcoming a higher rainfall and almost 100 days a year of less wind - amen to that!! We’re 200 metres lower and 5 degrees warmer which gives us about 3 weeks of extra growing time which is very useful. The down side is less space, but it’s a minor sacrifice for a short amount of time. ... Last year gave me the best garlic I’ve ever grown and provided me with beautiful seed stock. I’ve been weighing up the space I have and the chance that I may loose my stock if I don’t plant a decent bed. I’ve decided to go for it and utilise one big bed for these fat juicey morsels. They’re planted, mulched and tucked in for the next 9 months. I’ll harvest after they’ve flowered and I’ve made fabulous garlic Scape everything - pesto, fritters or simply tossed through a stir fry. We use garlic for culinary and medicinal purposes in our house. My go too is a little honey and garlic syrup for those scratchy winter throats or a Garlic Tea if you can’t bare the strength of the syrup. Peel and chop 6 cloves of garlic. Place 2 cups of water and chopped garlic in a saucepan and bring to a boil. After boiling, remove the pan from the heat. Stir in honey and lemon juice to taste. Strain into a warmed teapot. Sip half a cup three times a day. You may drink it hot or cold. Refrigerate the remaining tea for later use. Growing Garlic is so satisfying, and worth a try, even just a few. If any of my local friends would like to try I have a little collection of bulbs I’d love to share, send me a message.

24.01.2022 This morning I woke to the sound of rain on the tin roof. I was a little self indulgent and didn’t jump straight out of bed. Is there anything more comforting! It’s been a while - no tin roof and no rain!! Note to self about moving home - how good is surprise rain. No waiting for a week and then disappointment, it just rains and surprises you and then the sun comes out and it feels so good.

23.01.2022 Sunday morning sourdough goals!! She’s rough looking but straight out of the oven with honey! Is there a better way to start the day - I think not!!

22.01.2022 This week has me beat! I’ve got nothing, except these two, who we pass each day on our walk. I love donkeys, I’ve decided they’re not unlike my children. I love them, but some days they’ll engage others they turn their backs and walk away. It’s been a turn your back and walk away kind of week. How’s your isolation treating you? Is it tough or do you love it? I love it within reason, it’s given me time to create a home and plan some things, but this week was tiresome. I’m winning at wine, at home made pizza, at zooms with good friends and bed. That’s all I’ve got for this week.

20.01.2022 Time to get out of the house. It’s 12 degrees and we’ve adventured along the bursting creek. This will get us through to dinner with a little more love. Did I mention how much I’m loving rediscovering our old secret hangout spots? So much fun!! @vicki__bee can’t wait till you can join me!

18.01.2022 It’s taken a little while gang but they’re coming through. They’re a little split from the rain but damn they’re tasty. In the shop tomorrow- you should totally have Bruschetta for dinner.

17.01.2022 Can you guess where I am? Well where I’m dreaming of visiting some day soon - I’ve taken a virtual trip to Darwin. I have here Banana, Ginger and Tumeric. How lush do they look? These babies have been grown by my little brother. He’s always loved to potter and dabble with growing food but never really taken it seriously. He’s visited us at the farm a couple of times and loved eating his way though the garden. He knows how important it is to know where your food is coming f...rom. He gets how good it is for his girls to get involved in growing and providing a local food system and he’s smashing it. His first little stint has provided 14 Cavendish Banana plants to his local people and 15 dozen eggs to their local store. He was so pumped about how quickly everything sold and how many people were waiting in line for more of his plants. Could I be my more proud - no I couldn’t. Could I be anymore grateful that he’s excited and interested and inspired by what I’ve been doing for the pasts few years - no I couldn’t. Keep going, no matter how small you may feel your set up or how small your audience is, it’s important and if you’re inspiring just one person it’s a job well done. See more

14.01.2022 This time of year will always take me back to Collector. Today is usually the local @collectorpumpkinfestival. Where a community welcomes its guests to enjoy all things pumpkins. Where everyone grows or bakes and creates to the pumpkin theme and stalls overflow with goodness. It’s the first Sunday in May every year, except this year its not to be for obvious reasons. But let me tell you, may 2021, when we are all able to pop out again and you’re wondering which small commun...ity to support, I suggest getting along to this fabulous event. It’s a wonderful festival in a beautiful community and a sight to behold. It will take you back to times of old with all things pumpkin. Next year - Sunday 2nd May 2021 pop it in your calendars. 12.01.2022 Have a radishing day today! These pretties are ready for your dinner table and might I suggest trying them in a salad with some of our fresh salad greens and a little home grown cucumber. Fresh, crisp and tasty. Mix a little lemon juice and olive oil for dressing and away you go. So quick and easy.

10.01.2022 Upside down on the lawn today! It’s where I come back to Earth, ground myself and get ready for what’s ahead. We’ve been doing what we do for over five years now and oh how it’s changed our lives. We’ve bonded our family, we’ve sorted this growing and eating seasonal food, our kids have it sorted too. We’ve helped our little community become inspired to grow their own food and most importantly created a space for a beautiful community to gather. We’ve loved it every single b...it. However whilst our universe is crazy at the moment we’ve been living in our own crazy universe. We’ve had big changes in our little universe of Collector Fresh, not all grand and not all fabulous but changes that have allowed us to make some big decisions. Decisions that we’ve been thinking about but that the universe is making for us - she’s a push you in and get swimming kinda woman!! So we’ve decided that it’s time for us to head back to our home town in North East Victoria to invest in our very own property. The sad news is that this little Collector venture is coming to an end and unfortunately our beautiful baskets will cease and the shop will be closed for the moment. We’re hopeful that our little shop will fall into the hands of someone who loves it like we do. What a ride we’ve had. A hell of a lot of hard work but ultimately we’ve met you guys and had a ball. I’ve loved nothing more than feeding you the good food and surrounding you in beautiful things. We’re so excited to be back near our family and our old dear friends but we’re going to miss our very dear new friends a lot. I’m really very devastated to part ways with what has been my heart and soul for so long. To all of you my gratitude for your support will know no bounds. Watch this space for when Collector Fresh has a name change and our adventures continue in North East Victoria #yackandandah

09.01.2022 Here’s to a cool rainy weekend! We’re open tomorrow 9-3. I’m happy to say our cherry toms are finally ready, as are our eggplants. They’ve tested my patience but they’re totally worth it. Come and say hello, do your weekly shop with us, grab a coffee @somecafecollector and the perfect bottle of wine from @collector_wines cellar door. We tick all the boxes in Collector. Happy Days!!

08.01.2022 Harvested in the almost rain this morning, ready for your table tonight. Happy Saturday!!

07.01.2022 I managed to save these babies from drowning. They’re small but crunchy and full of flavour. One might call them proper tasting carrots. Goulburn they’re headed out to you in your baskets this morning.

04.01.2022 What has been your favourite part of isolation? Mine is the slow quiet days. Days where, finally I’ve had the chance to relish in my cooking. Without feeling rushed or ridden with chores. I’ve taken time to include the kids, let them turn the passata wheel, salt the tomatoes and they’ve enjoyed it. Mostly when they’re shoveling loads of pasta, laden with passata and parmesan in their tiny little gobs!! We’ve been turned upside down and back the front since the beginning of t...he year for various different reason and I feel we have weathered it well. So much so I’m not sure I’m ready to release the kids from our iso boundaries in a few weeks. They’re feeling the same, clinging on almost. For them it’s a new school, a new kinder, new friends - same same but different. We’ve all come to rely on each other a little more, share things and mostly enjoy each other’s company. Our favourite parts are the slow simple parts and understanding why we live that way. See more

04.01.2022 Oh hi new season gala apples! You’re looking rather fine today, and tasting even better. Guys come and visit this weekend we have a beautiful bucket load of these divine beauties waiting for you and just for good measure we have new pears and Sierra sweet plums.

02.01.2022 Oh hello there! I hope you’re all surviving this tumultuous time. It’s strange and interesting and confusing all in one. My minds a little disheveled, we’ve had what can only be described as a crazy emotional beginning to the year. We’ve packed up our home, and our life on the farm and plonked ourselves back in our home town all amidst this virus debacle. I’ve discovered that perhaps I am already attuned to isolation, I like my own company and at the best of times am anti so...cial or so I think anyway. My husband called me on it, he thinks that’s bull crap. Maybe, Maybe not!! We’re settling and it’s calm and it’s a good time to bind us back together as a family. So this is me, Naomi, and my fennel in different times, more free and easy times and I thought it best to get reacquainted. You know when it’s time to start something new and it’s a little daunting but you’ve just got to trust the magic of new beginnings. Well this is it - Indigo Kitchen Garden. Indigo Kitchen Garden, because it’s not quite a market garden yet. In fact I’ve a lot of work to do on this Kitchen Garden but it’s there and it’s exciting. It will be a similar setup to before, all about the seasonal eating and growing, a little foraging and preserving and a whole lot of encouraging connections to food, where it comes from and how to enjoy a local food system. More fitting to our family and something I feel important to share. Change is hard at first but only briefly, it’s super messy in the middle and this will be gorgeous at the end. I promise! Come Spring, when hopefully the world is a little more free of virus with my feet dirty, my hair messy and eyes sparkling, I’ll be here with all the things, fresh seasonal produce and the like. Watch this space

02.01.2022 Happiest Sunday to you!! We’ve received 9ml of rain, we’re happy at our house. At this stage it won’t do much except take the pressure off next weeks watering but we’re grateful for anything, and fingers crossed this low hangs around for a couple of days. I’m headed to the shop, come and visit it’s cool and filled with beautiful fresh produce to set up your weekly meals.

01.01.2022 We’re midday way through the 5th month, what a roller coaster it’s been. We’ve packed up our home and our business. We headed south, established a new home, avoided a virus and reconnected as family and it feels so good. Today we were meant to be leaving for this magical place to celebrate a special birthday for my mum. It’s not meant to be now and who knows when it will, but I do know that’s ok. Our world has slowed, so we can rediscover ourselves and she can recover and the slower the better in my eyes.
