25.01.2022 Living creatures abound on the reef. Here are some from my country #Kerriri #hammondisland Inspiration behind a body of work to be exhibited in 2021 #torresstraitislanderartist

25.01.2022 This video captures a little of the drive up the Gillies Range on our way to a site visit in Atherton today. We were in awe of how quickly the landscape recovers and in fact is rejuvenated after burning. The contrasting colour of the grass trees, eucalyptus trees and blue sky was simply stunning. Thank you to the Yidinji people who have cared for this country that we can enjoy today! Some more videos following this post...

19.01.2022 https://seaworld.org/animals/facts/bony-fish/sergeant-major/ Meet Abudefduf bengalensis or commonly known as the sergeant major fish. A fun and dynamic print inspired by the Sargeant Major Fish on the Great Barrier Reef. "My oldest son took me out on a mother and son date in 2016 to his workplace on the reef. Whilst snorkling with my son the Sergeant Major fish schools really stood out to me. Later that day I found out I was going to be a grandmother. It was a very special ...day and i wanted to create a print that would capture that memory. This print is dedicated to my son Jordan." 19.01.2022 These videos are a reminder to look out and enjoy beauty around us and remember those whose country we are on, who have lived off and connect deeply and spiritually with that country.

18.01.2022 This chrysalis caught Andrew and my attention on the weekend. The outer finish had a mirror finish with an ochre matt line making an interesting pattern over the top. Paying attention to intelligent design in nature.

17.01.2022 Whilst I’d prefer to keep out of the photos here is a very natural photo taken by Andrew Lane, architect at Indij Design and my husband. This photo was taken towards the end of 2019 out front of AFL Cape York House - for Girls Indij Design provided the cultural design review and artwork procurement services for AFL Cape York I had the immense pleasure of working with the project team including HPS, Davidson Development Solutions, Clarke and Prince Architects, Landplan and th...e client AFLCY. The methodology behind the artworks selection was to source pieces from the communities the boarders came from that would remind the girls of home. The Dilly Bag feature entry wall was collaboratively created by AFLCY Operations Manager at the time, Kristine Van and I. As a woman of Kaurareg and Merriam decent I pondered how my ancestors would have used dilly bags and how powerfully people from top end indigenous communities, especially women would relate to the artwork. It was an absolute pleasure to work with AFLCY’s Kristine Van to develop the Dilly Bag wall. See more

05.01.2022 The beautiful Shaneen Fantin Director at People Oriented Design emitting joyfulness wearing a bright summer frock in Indij Design’s Sergeant Major Stripes print. Shaneen had a local dressmaker make the dress using the pattern of a well worn but favourite dress as a template. Shaneen has been a constant supporter of Indij Prints specifying our adaptable designs into POD’s built environment projects. We love her to bits! Pictured are matching design patterns to Shaneen’s dres...s fabric and canvas pictured. Message Indij Design to place your fabric order or email [email protected]

05.01.2022 Lovers of our product and textiles have asked what inspires you? Here's the answer from Indij Designer and artist Francoise Lane. As an indigenous woman from saltwater country my artwork is inspired by connection to country and family. I am passionate about creating art embedded with meaningful elements that tell a story of those connections. The patterns on my textiles are not just aesthetically beautiful, they tell a story special to me. I investigate making useful product...s that aligns with a personal value of minimising waste and looking after our planet. For example the creation of the SeaSIDE Table and Ottoman integrated recycled discarded materials including ATV tires and discarded fish netting. I am inspired by the successful art and design business heros William Morris and Marimekko. My view shared by these great creatives is that art and design can be combined to bring their beauty into everyday items used and accessible by society. There are no boundaries on how I express my creativity. My art is able to cross over into art product, design and architecture. Image 1: Angel Fish SeaSIDE Table, Photographer: Francoise Lane. Images 2, 3, 4: Torres Strait Regional Authority Land and Sea Management Building, Thursday Island, Torres Strait. Architect: People Oriented Design. Artworks: Francoise Lane Art. 04.01.2022 Indij Design’s Francoise Lane was interviewed by Cairns Indigenous Art Fair Reporter Jack Wilkie Jans on her art, design and creative inspiration. We loved the interview especially the bit Jack and Francoise thought was cut! Good radio!

02.01.2022 #sergeantmajorearrings were a hit at CIAF2019...so much so that stockists such as @northsite_contemporaryarts @nationalmuseumofaustralia @thiscountryaustralia now stock the earrings. The pricing has increased so we don’t undercut our stockists. I hope that fans of the #sergeantmajorearrings will add more colours to their collection to wear!
