21.01.2022 Year 9 Digital Technologies students have been working collaboratively this term to code robots to complete two different rescue missions. The mBots use line-following, ultra-sonic and light sensors to reach the rescue point without assistance from students.

21.01.2022 A group of Indro Year 12 students enjoyed participating in an online lecture on Design Thinking last week with Angela, Philip and Nina from Torrens University Australia. Students were able to investigate and brainstorm a problem: pandemic and working from home. They were taught about using metaphors and then, using a persona to identify needs based upon the problem, completed a rough concept. They also learnt about the Design study opportunities at Torrens and potential careers. Students interested in a pathway in Design can apply for early entry, which closes this month, at https://apply.torrens.edu.au/. We'll work with Torrens again to develop design portfolios for university entry.

19.01.2022 Happy #internationaldogday, Ludo. Thanks for all you do for us.

19.01.2022 Gordon Hoffer, one of Indooroopilly State High Schools first students, has shared with us a treasure trove of class photos from 1954, Indros inaugural year. Here are the Academic, Commercial and Industrial classes and the first group of teachers with principal T.A. White. Mr Hoffer, 81, who lives at Upper Kedron with his wife of 54 years, Patricia, pursued a career in oil exploration until his retirement in 2004. He was in the Industrial class and studied Woodwork, Metalwork and Trade Drawing in addition to English, Maths and Physics. He still has regular catch-ups with former Indro and Milton State School classmates John Babbage and John Cassasola. 19.01.2022 Yoshida Aussiana Samosir, Indro’s 2015 Cultural/Social Captain, recently graduated from University of Indonesia with a Bachelor of Science specialising in Molecular Biology for Medical Studies. Yoshida said her transition to university in a completely different country was much easier than she imagined because of the skills she gained during her time studying STEM-related subjects at Indro. My time at Indro has helped me greatly in terms of acquiring scientific reasoning in ...critical thinking, soft skills and exposure to such diverse cultures. I grew up as a third culture kid in Australia, and the Indro student and staff community warmly welcomed me by respecting and accommodating my background and beliefs. Indro fostered a healthy environment that has enabled me to focus on my education and personal development. My differences were shaped to be my best qualities and allowed me to achieve great things. I am very confident and optimistic about studying abroad and experiencing new cultures for the next phases of my life! Yoshida works as a Student Researcher at the Infectious Disease Cluster at the Indonesian Medical Education and Research Centre and as an ESL Teacher at Education First Indonesia and hopes to secure future graduate school positions overseas. Join the Indooroopilly SHS Alumni at https://indoorooshs.eq.edu.au/our-community/alumni to receive updates, news and invitations for school community involvement.

17.01.2022 As a forward thinking community, we're always looking for ways to support students into the future. With this in mind, the Integrated Student Support Department (ISS) hosted a webinar last night for post-school transition options and supports for students with disabilities. Inclusion is a priority and having an opportunity to share feedback from past students/parents, discuss support options into the future and the different pathway options was wonderful, said ISS Head of Department Sandra Odger.

17.01.2022 Year 9 Digital Technologies students have exercised their creative thinking and problem-solving skills this term in coding Edison robots to perform tasks. The Edison is an educational robot that engages students in Python, a text-based coding language. For assessment, the students worked collaboratively to design a solution to a real-world problem that robots can be used to solve. They then coded the Edison to perform this simulated solution and recorded the robot performing this task. #indroshs #digitalcitizenship

15.01.2022 Our Year 11 L-platers and red P-platers got excellent guidance at todays RACQ Driver IQ presentation. Students used individual clickers to participate in interactive polling that showed 65% were on their learner licence and 32% were on their P1 provisional licence. RACQ education officer Dave Webber shared strategies on safety and making the most of students' driver training. The 100 hours is not a curse, its a gift, Mr Webber said of the supervised driving that learners need to log to be eligible to apply for a provisional licence. Its not a box to tick, its setting you up for your driving future.

14.01.2022 Indros Year 10 Visual Art students have been producing some stunning work this term as part of their Surrealism unit. Students have been applying approaches and techniques of artists to discover their subconscious mind. They worked on collages that utilise unexpected juxtaposition inspired by the Surrealist Max Ernst and Dadaist Hannah Hoch. Similar to the process of these artists, students used imagery from non-art-related sources such as old encyclopaedias and pages of steel engraving illustrations. The resulting collages play with scale, composition and imagery from contrasting contexts to create irrational and illogical scenes.

12.01.2022 Another pastry technique today for Year 10 Food Studies at Indro: choux pastry or profiteroles filled with custard, topped with a chocolate glaze and a dust of icing sugar! Feeling hungry?

12.01.2022 Indros Bert McAlpine Tennis Tournament, the first on our new courts, continues this afternoon with the girls singles and boys quarter finals, building up to semi-finals and finals next Friday. Best of luck to all of our players.
